Oh Tom, that made me cry 💖 I can’t wait to take this in for Dad to see. He really is a sweet man. All our kids spent time with him out in his workshop and I’m sure they have great memories of those times. I’ll be sure to write you & tell you his reaction 😀

@@AlleyPicked I can’t believe I forgot to get back to you to tell you Dad’s reaction 😳 I didn’t have the car for nearly 5 days and it was so hard to wait to show him. I made my brother promise not to show him first. I think Dad couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing when his photos came up. He was tapping the screen of the iPad and looking at me with a great big smile 💖. We watched it a few times - it was so fun to have that moment with him. Things got really busy after that, I got a foster dog, then another one (dad loves it when he gets dogs to visit with). Just as things settled down Dad fell & broke his hip. He passed away 2 days later. He was very, very frail Tom so we knew it would be difficult to recover from a break like that. He had the best care & the staff loved him so, so much. He was relatively pain free and surrounded by love when he went. We’re having a wooden urn carved for him, specially ordered. Dad was such a lovely man and we have wonderful memories of him. Thank you for giving Dad a surprise feature in one of your videos - all the grandkids loved it too 🥰

@@kimhicks1571 Hi Kim. I was wondering what happened. I sort of feel like I knew him a little through your stories. I'm also sure he and I had a lot in common. I am sorry to hear about his passing. I am so glad that he got to see the video before he fell. I hope he also got to see the new dogs as well :-) I'm also glad to hear that he did not suffer long after the fall. If we all had a choice how the last chapter of our life goes, I would be all for living a long life with a quick ending. Thanks for giving me the update. Tom

You made an excellent spoon for your first effort!! This all reminds me of the documentary Alone in the Wilderness. If you haven’t seen it already I’d highly recommend it. He carved spoons for his own use and for gifts and he really lived off the land in Twin Lakes, Alaska.

That's a terrific result Tom, especially for first try. I always feel that these kits should come with thorough sharpening instructions and perhaps even sharpening equipment. I mean, it would take me an hour to figure out how to sharpen up that spoon knife without damaging it. Cheers mate, that was most enjoyable.

Hi Mark, I did watch a couple video on sharpening the hook knife. Looks like sandpaper wrapped around a dowel rod. Another dowel wrapped in leather. I will need to sharpen it soon. Thanks for tuning in.

Be careful while carving seasoned beech (yes ik I'm an idiot) with a knife, while the surgeon was stitching me hhe congratulated me on how sharp my knife and how clean the slice is :DD like from a scalpel

Coconut oil and beeswax is safe. Mineral oil is also safe.
