And that the vulnerability of expressing that can feel awkward and hard, but it doesn't make it any less important. It takes real talent to capture this level of authentic dialog in acting. The awkward goodbye, the one-sided dialog on the phone call... top-tier TV shows get that stuff wrong constantly.
@ballisticcranberrypeat77773 жыл бұрын
I think it's just that this is truly inspired, he had a vision, idea or story that he wants to share for it's own sake, and for the sake of sharing the feelings it evokes. Most tv and movies are kind of just incidental to making money, and it doesn't matter how talented or creative a writer is, if there's no inspiration, everyone can tell. The big shows are always trying to write shit that *sounds* inspired, rather than just making the sort of things that they can really speak through.

@patriotic ak47That's kind of nonsense, but I understand where you're coming from. I'm not too sure about that. Ignoring reality in conversations hasn't helped anyone ever. My friend cutter was like that for me. After high school I was the last of our friends to move out and start our lives. Which is funny, because I was also the first to move out. I got a seasonal job in Washington multiple states away from our home state and did that for a few months. But after that job I moved back to my moms until I could find out what I wanted to do. Instead I ended up living there for over a year with no job or realistic goals. He was in college at U of A and I was really jealous at the fact that he knew what he wanted to do. But every time he came home we’d hang out and he’d try to convince me that my position was completely normal and ok. After a while I decided it was time to move out and get on with life and he talked me through the whole process to get into college in Phoenix. I’ll be back home later this week, and now for the first time we’ll both be hanging out in our hometown on break from college.

We've created this fantasy world from social media showing everything brand new and shiney when reality is way different, our modern goals have been mixed up between keeping up with the jones and showing snippets of only the good times, this has caused ourselves (including me) to miss important key metrics like finding true love, starting a family and having faith or believing in something greater then whats in front of a screen. I'm 38, single, have a roof over my head and a newer truck, but now that I'm older I realize that I'm missing something.. true love which is the engine that drives motivation.

An experience from a 70 years old is that true love(or to be precise the modern concept of true love showed by the media isn't real). A man and a woman need each other to be company, a female could provide to her male partner what other males can't,and the opposite is true .

Oh shit that ending hit me hard. Personal history. Actually, Joel, as humorous as this may have been meant, I'm glad that at the end it was a big humility joke. A pleasant touch :) EDIT: I'm actually surprised by how much attention this has gotten, but please maintain an atmosphere of kindness and decency guys. See, even when Joel has a point to make, he tries to help you laugh through it. Let's all try to follow that example. This is also simply a comment I've left in appreciation of Joel and his work, on behalf of myself. I don't want any more political debates or other controversial things down here, you can all get along without discussing world issues. We are here to forget the bullshit, not focus on it. Give us a twenty minute break before we have to reconsider the burning earth around us. Thank you for reading this far, I hope you're all having a wonderful day :)

I thought it was generational humor. Y'know, like "that particularly large generation which shall remain nameless" spent their lives running up the bill for later generations to pay off, meanwhile patting themselves on the back for "solving all of the world's social problems," just so they could ignore the next generation so hard that they never even got a proper name, and in any event, blame all of them for lacking the ambition to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" just "like they did." Meanwhile, "tiny houses" and "vanlife" continue to grow in popularity, due in so small part to trying to make the best of how little there is left for the rest of us, thanks to those who came before us

I’m 27, I actually am doing “pretty good” literally, but I have been in some awful, dark, hopeless situations in the past but I have worked hard to pull myself out of the hole I was stuck in. I rarely see my friends I grew up with but when I do catch up with them (very rarely) most of them are in really bad situations. Drug addiction, gambling addiction, still living with parents, drug dealing etc. it’s sad to see the boys I grew up with who once had dreams and ambitions let it all go to waste.
@Quzga Жыл бұрын
I turn 27 in a month, glad I'm not alone. I've had a rough time but things are finally looking up! But Same thing happened with most of my old friends too, mostly drugs and partying too much. Kinda glad I don't stay in touch with any of them.
@marcriba7581 Жыл бұрын
Bruh beware with the whole "they're letting all go to waste" stuff. I've been in community rehab and I've heard enough life stories of addicts to make myself the idea that "you always have a choice" is true-ish, it doesn't account for what choices life offers you. The vast majority of addicts come from abusive families, burying their feelings and memories becomes a growing need while adulting, most of them hadn't acknowledged that background (even to themselves) until their life was already a total mess and therapists were pulling their proud tongues.

Yep, you summed everything up pretty good. When you are the guy who's doing " pretty good " it just looks like the world has gone away from you, it fells as you don't fit anywhere, or with anybody, you are not jealous of your friends, you are actually happy for them, and to see then, but then it comes the sadness you feel about yourself becoming nothing and you don't feel you can hang with them anymore. Always looking for the next day, and thinking somehow you gonna pull through it all.

this video was a comforting surprise to me, as ive struggled out of highschool its been hard talking to people i had been there with, always had the idea that i was too much of a failure, that i'd have nothing to tell them about myself, no developments etc. but the truth is, we all hide our struggles, no one wants others to see how bad theyre doing. everything from the painful small talk, their demeanors and that scene at the end, just comforting.
