WOW I have a Go Pro 4 and I wanted to buy a Go Pro 7 because I wanted some rad MTB shots - but after watching this video and playing with the settings, I realize that a better camera doesn't mean I'll have better footage - it's about knowing how to use it! Thank you so much!

Nice tips, but. 24 frames looks like a slide show if you are used to higher frames and vice versa; 60 frames looks unreal if you are used to power points. Its all about what you are used to.
@NoName-uy2hr
@NoName-uy2hr 5 жыл бұрын
24 is the standard cinematic look. I personally like to film in 120 or 60 and put it out in a 30fps timeline, so i have room for slomo and have a fluent clip but it doesn't look unreal. But thats just my personal opinion
@a64738
@a64738 5 жыл бұрын
24/25 fps is a sideshow if you use short exposure times and look absolutely horrible. Also 24 and 25 fps give stuttering when watched on 30 and 60 fps in youtube and on a computer in general.

One other thing I noticed here is the perception of the terrain you get from having the bars in the shot. When I see those bars rising and dropping relative to the rider, it gives me a much deeper sense of what that ride feels like. That's a huge benefit to the chest mount.

The timing on this is just bizarre.. I was just trying to sort out why my latest footage (I'm pretty new at this) was so washed out. I've been tinkering with my Hero 4 settings (using Boostmaster's settings) and GoPro Studio with no luck. Then, this vid pops up in my notifications, telling me everything I need to know :) Thanks! Looking forward to Part 2. I really need to learn about color correction and editing tips!
@TheLoamRanger
@TheLoamRanger 6 жыл бұрын
Haha funny how things happen like that sometimes. Jordan's got his settings pretty dialled too! Although I've never been a fan of Native white balance, so I stick with setting my K temp depending on the situation. In either case, your footage will look flat before you color correct it. That'll all be in video #2!

Thanks for taking the time for making this vid. Just a note from a motorcyclist - you can’t mount gopro on your chest because you won’t see anything but the front of the motorycle. So helmet is the only choice. Also, are you not a bit concern about having this metal thing jammed straight into your chest if you fall? But I like the concept of distance to speed you mentioned, I wouldn’t think of that, so thanks. Also, the tiny gimbal is a great idea, cause I could possible mount it on the bike instead my head rising the safety a bit and lowering the wind intensity on my head :)

Awesome explanation, specially the part aboout the white balance. I guess that for a studio setup for recording drums I should go for 6500K because of all the white lights (considering the studio I record drums in have all white lights). I have watched tons of GoPro videos about settings and this is the most important one! There's a newer version of this but I still prefer this original video. I thought I could outwit the advice given here and whacked the color profile to GoPro for night footage on the streets, this made dark parts darker and lights lighter - the opposite of what you want on night footage. What I got was horrible footage where I had to have the ISO on 3200 (instead of 1600 ISO which works well on the "flat" color profile) and because the dark parts were darker and the lights lighter, it looks terrible. I went back to 1600 ISO and flat... I don't think it's possible to improve on that now for night footage on the streets (cycling). Here's my settings and the only thing I change between day/night is White Balance on 5500k for daytime, Auto for night time: Resolution: 1080p FPS: 24 Lens: SuperView HyperSmooth: Boost Bitrate: High Shutter: Auto EV Comp: 0 White Balance: 5500k (Day) Auto (Night) ISO Min: 100 ISO Max: 1600 Sharpness: Medium Color: Flat

Why don't you shoot with the White Balance in Native? You get a minimally processed data file directly from the image sensor and you're able to do more precise adjustments in post... Also, I never go above ISO 800, the image quality is unacceptable above that.

"Cinematic 24fps" - Why the hell would you choose to shoot at a low framerate for fast pace action footage? It just looks blurry and choppy..

I thought the same thing but more so like, hey Im seeing the footage you have here and honestly it doesn't have that gopro feel to it when people use 60fps or 30fps. It takes away from the "Gopro-y" which is not what I'm going for

I just bought a 7 and I'm excited to (somewhat) substitute a physical gimbal with the built in Hypersmooth stabilization, but the rest of this all makes a lot of sense. Excellent video, thanks for this.
@ohHeyKev
@ohHeyKev 4 жыл бұрын
With the 7 having hypersmooth it makes gimbals irrelevant to a certain extent. If you have enough preparation time and want to get that smooth shot, go for gimbal. But if you're like 95% of all gopro users, you'll just want to put it in a bag with no gimbals or gadgets and just want to record what you're doing, Hypersmooth is the way to go

@@ohHeyKev Yeah I've done a couple rides with both the top of helmet (built into my Bell super air) and a hack-job chin mount and I'm really pleased with the stability of the video. No it's not 100 butter smooth like on a gimbal, but very much what I'm looking for. After that the video editing info was great!

You're lucky yours has good sound. I have the Hero4 Black and it has a high frequency pulse every time I shoot in 4K. I upgraded to the Sony frd-x3000. Huge improvement IMO plus the BOSS stabilization. Maybe not on par with a real gimbal, but definitely great without additional accessories.
