Great experiment. I love it when creators do the work. Emulsifiers in particular are based off of the % of oil phase that you have in your formula. The higher % of oil phase, the higher % of emulsifiers you’ll need. That’s just talking about the emulsifiers, not the fatty alcohols and hardeners. And then there are some emulsifiers that just don’t thicken for example the glyceryl stearate (and) PEG 100 stearate (aka LotionPro 65) because they tend to separate the thickening portion and emulsifying portions of the formula

Hi, Dora. This is perfect. I’m learning how to make lotion, scrubs and body butters and will incorporate emulsifying wax into my recipes.

Love this video! Some emulsifiers are oil in water, and some are water in oil, so you need to be aware and adjust or use a co-emulsifier. Stearic acid makes a really thick emulsion, but it is best used with a co- emulsifier as you suggested.🙂

Absolutely. Great tip!

Great video on emulsifiers! I was really impressed by how thorough you were. I always use two emulsifiers in my lotions. Steric acid is often the second. I like the feel it leaves in my products. In and steric acid is used in starter recipes for beginners making lotion. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤❤❤

Also, check what minimum percent emulsifiers need to be used at, some of these could be used less and made a slightly thinner, yet still emulsified solution. I love btms 50 and stearic acid for this, I get a silky emulsion that has a higher melting point ❤

Yep, absolutely. That's correct. I added them all at the same rate for the purpose of comparing them to one another.

Would you by chance make a video about body milk? I'd love a thin milky body lotion that absorbs and dries down nicely.

Can I ask you about your last experiment where you added an emulsifier to oil without water to thicken it up, which emulsifier did you use or would you recommend? I have emulsifying wax NF and cetyl alcohol and wonder if one of them would be useful to add to body butter made during the summer when it gets very hot and humid? Thanks very much. Btw I love your videos and have learned so much from you. Thanks heaps

Would you recommend any of these for a hair wax? Im currently looking to create a colored hair wax that's not dense. I want it to feel like nothing is in the hair, but washes out super easy and is not permanent. I was thinking one of the first 3 you had shown but could use some guidance!

Not at the moment, but I’m just now getting into haircare. matter of fact hair wax is one of the things that I’m formulating.

Hi, I ordered emulsifying wax online and it looked like sugar, not flakes. Is it good for making a scrub?
