I am amazed to find a youtuber thinking about home and garden in the same way, connected to nature. I am especially grateful to find a conduit to Japanese thinking and I wasn't even looking for it. I always admired Japanese gardens, but now I am thinking about how to bring some (more rustic) ideas into my world. I'm watching a lot of videos now about walking around in Japan, especially the countryside, just absorbing. Thank you so much for sparking something truly new for me. You are a real gift. :)

Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I know we all lead busy lives so I think it's great when we can take a minute and slow down and reconnect with nature. Japan is a place of extremes sometimes with both the beautiful countrysides and the fast paced cities, it's great when we can find that balance. I love your curiosity, keep it up :)

Joshua, we thoroughly enjoyed several of your videos tonight and confirmed the path we are pursuing on this property we recently moved into. One prior owner had created an extensive Japanese styled rock garden that climbs 20 plus ft and extends over 40 feet. Much had been neglected by subsequent owners and we have spent the last two years both cleaning it up as well as carefully thinking how we want to take it. Not more, less. Cleaner, more thoughtful. There are some beautiful plantings we have been able to revive, others we moved to revive, and others we pruned to make more healthy. We are looking to your videos for insight to enhance our vision. I'm glad you found the channel and are finding some inspiration. It sounds like you have a fun project on your property! Thinking in terms of highlighting the most important areas, drawing people's focus in and keeping it more minimalistic sounds like a great direction to go. Too large can end up being too much work to maintain in the long run.

I'm starting with creating a color palette in my home that is nothing but nature hues: greens, smoky greys, a hint of watery blues, wood colors etc. You've got me to the inspiration for my place. Thank you. All you said makes perfect sense. I grok you! And gonna start a terrarium.

Love that! Go with it and if it feels natural to you then you'll be creating your own space of comfort.

Another pro tip! 🌼 See each window as the frame of a painting. If you place garden items (even if they are very simple) in a golden ratio within the “frame”. It will create a lot of interest in your home and be an ever changing artwork. -Stand in front of the window at the distance you most often pass it at. This will be different for each one. - have a friend out in the garden with sticks and direct where they should be put down in each corner. And mark out the golden ratio center where you will place the most eye catching element. - plant accordingly but give a little bit extra at the boarders as you are not always passing the window at the exact same distance. Or just avoid sharp boarders in your composition. A maple tree would be an example of a good “item” or one of my favorites for cold climates; Cornus alba 'Sibirica'. It’s a bush with beautiful red stems in the snow and creamy white flowers in the summer 🙂 for tropical climates something like a bird of paradise could be interesting.

If you need closed captioning, don't bother. For some reason it's glitchy on this video!

You need to crop your talking head video segments better. Don't put your forehead in dead center with your neck just barely above the bottom frame. Instead, for close-up head shots, position the top of your head near or even right at the top of the frame. This puts your eyes at around the top third line. It was hard to watch this video because of how annoying the framing was. Great content aside from that, though.

I've never really thought about that before, thanks! I was leaving space for words and titles at times but I understand what you mean about the eye line. Cheers!
