@@W93h3753mwesley Poor people who own sidearms, or long arms for that matter, usually go to 2nd hand stores, or to pawn shops to find used holsters. Uncle Mike's Plain Jane, NON-Form Fit 'generic' holsters from Wally World MIGHT fit and be had for $25, but THOSE holsters are what arrogant swine like the guy who presents at 'Active Self Protection' commonly refer to as 'Junk', and many other arrogant jerks with Channels, and many at Shooting 'Clubs' across the country have the SAME opinions! Form Fitting 'quality' holsters start at about $65 and quickly work their way up, with Shoulder Holsters going in the $200-$400 range. You might be able to pick one up 'on sale' for about $150-$175, but even those are WELL OUTSIDE what I can afford, and what most poor people can afford! I had to sell a BUNCH of my remaining exotic/hard woods, other personal items, to be able to afford my Taurus G3C pistol, and I picked up BOTH my holsters for it at a Gun Show; USED but still in decent enough shape to use; one is a leather Pocket Holster (which I use the most), and the other which will start getting used again since Winter has once again arrived, a Thin Strap 'old school' Galco Shoulder Holster, with a Double Mag Carrier as the Counter Balance. These days, the ONLY time I wear pants is when I'm blessed with a job, which requires 'business casual' pants. Otherwise, I wear Bib Overalls, because of my serious diverticulitis; which a belt exacerbates to no end; when I'm wearing pants, I use the Pocket Holster; works great! But with Winter, 95% of the time, I'll be using the Shoulder Holster. I'd prefer the more modern Wide Strap style, so that the weight is more evenly distributed on my shoulders (I have 3 compressions in my neck, so I can no longer carry my all steel former EDC, too much weight with my Double Mag Carrier combined.), but this old Galco gets the job done. I paid $5 for the Pocket Holster and $20 for the old Galco.....it was NOT designed for the Taurus G3C, but it fits, so I'm good to go. But finding the 'correct' holster used is a difficult proposition. I own 3 guns: my CZ85 which I need to sell because I need the money for bills and ammo (for a rifle that it took me 4.5 years to save up for, but I don't have a single round for it; can't find any locally, and ordering 'online', which I'll have to do, requires MORE money than I can afford; so the CZ goes 'down the road' despite my NOT wanting to sell it!), my AK 74, and my Taurus (which will do 'double duty' as Home Defense and EDC). Right now, most of my money goes into just Bills; lights, nat. gas, water/sewer/garbage, cell phone, internet connection, insurance, and because I live in WY, my GAS TANK! Go Brandon! Selling my CZ is the ONLY way I can get ammo to even sight my rifle in (never shot it, have had it since May), and have enough to fill the few mags I have for it. So, bottom line, YES, MOST poor people carry the type of guns many people these days would NOT carry, unless under duress for some reason. Yes, I've carried Hi-Point as well and like them, but WAY TOO HEAVY for me these days as well. I hope this helps you better understand the Sitch many people are in during the Biden Era...

That is Exactly Why we All need to: 1. Keep the weapon On the body -not "free floating" (as I call weapons that are (a) hanging loosely in a pocket of clothing; whether it be a coat or back pocket. And (b) Not in contact with it actually Touching the body -you know, through a shirt or pants. 2. Not Secured with a holster. I'll never forget my personal experience: I went on a quick trip to the grocery store for the wife, and grabbed her edc (Glock 36 I believe), and headed out -not realizing I didn't have the appropriate holster! 🥴 Well, I stuck it on the Dash magnet for the drive; but when I arrived at the store, I realized that I didn't have a Safe way to carry it while inside, and leaving it in the vehicle want an option, so I put it in my back pocket... My gawd was I a nervous wreck for that entire mission. I couldn't feel anything but the weight, and barely at that! My lesson out of that? Always make damn sure I didn't leave the front door without being Fully 'Dressed!' Which is what I consider as being appropriately prepared: Weapon. Spare Mag, and HOLSTER! I can only imagine how that man felt when you handed him his weapon, and he didn't even know he'd lost it! 🤯🤯🤯

Happens to me all the time, just not in public, but maybe in view of the public (if someone is passing by the sidewalk). I keep a small lcp max on a kydex holster while on my backyard, and I had it slide from my pocket a few times. I'd add in a few words about remaining calm thoughout. If your focus is on quick removal, your are going to make a lot of sudden movements. Sudden movements can be considered threatening, more so when combined with a visible firearm. Scenario 1: The gun drops, you dive after it, snatching it from the floor, holstering it with all possible speed. Scenario 2: The gun drops, you calmly squat / take a knee next to the gun, collect it, take a quick look over to ensure it's safe, and calmly holster it. I'd guess the difference in time is single digit seconds, the difference in how threatening your appear, is massive.

I had this very thing happen in a grocery store in Ohio, upper middle class, air force base adjacent. I had been riding my harley, so had a leather vest over my jacket. I bent over into a drink cooler to grab something and my sig 938 fell out hit the basket in my hand, my boot and went sideways away from me about 15 feet. I quickly took a few large strides and sat the basket over it, reached under the basket and reholstered it. I took my couple items to self checkout, quickly paid and got on my bike to leave. I saw pd speeding into the lot as I was pulling out of the spot. They didn't light me up, so I didn't stop. I could see them stop in my mirror at the doors I exited as I went out of sight. The holster was a leather holster clipped into the concealed carry pocket of the vest as I had been on the bike for about 12 hours that day. I did not do that again. I had never had that happen before and couldn't easily recreate the scenario when i checked at home to see what happened. The next day I went and bought a new kydex appendix carry holster and decided I'd rather have the hammer digging into my stomach when I ride than to ever have that happen again. I was informed that I could have been charged with brandishing. I assume the officers watched the security tape and decided it wasn't a big deal as there was no one else in the aisle when it happened and I promptly left. They must not have been too concerned because they sat down the road from my house regularly during their shifts, particularly when school let out, and knew who I was. I also continued to shop at that store while I lived in the area and was never questioned about it.

My first holster is a basic OTW holster. it has a simple retention mechanism. When I'm ready to EDC or CC, I'll surely upgrade it to a more active retention system. If your OTW holster has only "tension screws" to keep the gun in its holster, snug it beyond what is basic and comfortable to draw by about 50%. If you need to draw, you won't notice the extra retention pressure. Also, you can add a snap if its a kydex holster, its not overly difficult and I'll be doing that when I have more training

When I first started carrying my glock. It would flip and fall out of my holster when I loosened my belt in a bathroom. I am sure others have made the same mistake. Keep your calm and don't scream. Usual no one will notice if it falls in a bathroom provided you pick it up. I learned to hold my holster while I relieved myself. The point is if you make a mistake. Don't make a second mistake of appearing as a threat when you pick it up. Keep the lowest profile if your mistake is noticed your actions should reflect that you are clumsy and embarrassed at your mistake. He is right that the gun will not usually fire from being dropped. I have never had any gun fire arm fire from being dropped. Be carefully especially with inside the waist band holsters. Even with a belly band holsters. I have experience the strap coming lose. Everyone makes mistakes how you handle the mistakes. Makes a big difference. Learn and be more careful.

I had the exact same thing happen once (another time holster started leaning/falling but I caught it with my hand). My solution was to get a ratcheting gun belt (Kore) so I can just loosen it to the maximum setting and then the belt is still connected on both sides so no chance of it sliding off or wobbling, and I don't have to hold it. I will not carry again without a ratcheting gun belt.

The place to truly start with this is: 1) make sure you have a quality holster that properly fits your gun 2) check the retention of the holster and adjust if needed 3) consider a holster w a mechanical retention device ie, lvl 1,2,or,3. 4) if you are doing moderate to high levels of activities then the holster should have mechanical retention period THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAPPEN IF YOU ADDRESS THE HOLSTER & ACTIVITY APPROPRIATE RETENTION FIRST BEFORE YOU CARRY!

I will not engage in an argument. But a little common sense goes along way. Don’t carry your gun in a holster that it easily falls out of. And if you know you’re going to run, climb, crawl, jump around etc., take extra precautions. In a lot of jurisdictions just showing or letting your firearm be seen is a crime, period. It our responsibility to take those precautions or we are liable to suffer the consequences. If your going to be doing back flips on the dance floor take proper precautions or don’t carry while doing backflips, simple conclusion. I’M the one who carries my gun, I’M the one legally responsible for it, I’M the one who gets charged or hauled off to jail…. So I’M the one who has to DO ALL the things before hand and while carrying so these things don’t happen! I have to make sure it’s loaded and functions properly. I have to have a good holster with proper retention. I have to carry my permit with me at all times while I carry. I have the duty to inform in my state. Etc. No one ELSE is doing these things for me. The holster inspector isn’t coming to my home to do it for me. No one ELSE is going to jail for me…. Agree with me or disagree with me, no matter. I offered what I feel to be sound advice.

Several years ago, I was involved in a motorcycle accident. Fire/Rescue coming from the right, tried to slow down in the middle of the road on what I found out too late was wet due to moisture in the early morning air. Bike slid for 150 feet. I slid for about 100 ft. Didn't realize it at the time, my pistol fell out of my holster. One of the firefighters found it on the street near by, asked if it was mine and I told him yes. He secured it in the tour pack on my bike and rode it 300 yards to fire station and secured it. A family member got AAA to pick up my bike, bring it home for me. That family member also had a CCW. When I was at the hospital, a Sheriff's deputy came to see me to ask me about the pistol and if I had a CCW. I told him I did and showed it to him. He thanked me, wished me a speedy recovery and left. I had, still have a very good Fobus holster with a good retention capability, but apparently sliding along an asphalt surface was more than it could handle.

One major time to be vigilant is when using the bathroom. I usually hold my holster as I loosen my belt, and often take it off and hook it on the toilet paper dispenser. Both myself and a friend of mine have dropped a carry gun in the same bathroom. Mine slipped off the belt, in the holster, and his clattered to the floor and over to my side. The only other time I've had a gun fall out of the holster was several weeks ago. I had stuck it into the zipper pocket on the back of my bino harness and it flew out and landed about ten feet away when I yeeted a rock off the top of a mountain. Now I carry it with the shoulder strap over the grip.

The majority of my time is spent standing up, going on walks, or sitting down. And my holster is not slippery, so it got good enough retention to not slide out of the holster so long as the holster is not being held upside down for an extended period of time. And Alien Gear Holster makes good holsters. Even without a strap, it stays snug in the holster. So I'm not worried about losing my gun. I'm not surprised with the lack of retention on these holsters.... I at least want a level one retention..

I have a locking holster for my Hellcat, and an IWB with L2 retention. I don't want to be that guy.

I've got to say honestly this hasn't happened to me in the open but at home yes it's falling out of the holster a couple of times. But thankfully only at home. However I did drop a magazine / clip the other day in the open but only one person saw it but I don't think it counts for magazines / clip do it.

There are no solutions, only trade offs. More retention and concealment is at odds with rapid or easy draw. Since I am much more likely to benefit from retention and concealment, and comfort makes program compliance much more likely, I went with an Urban Carry G3. If I am standing and loose belt/pants, the draw is actually quite good. Sitting down is the most comfortable of any others that I have tried, but really tough to draw from and forget about drawing while seat-belted. Still, it is super comfortable, just looks like I have a phone in my pocket despite holding my chonky Beretta PX4, and is super secure.

I dropped mine once but I was fortunate that it happened in my driveway and not in public. It was then I discovered my holster was not properly adjusted. Made the adjustment and haven’t had a repeat.
