This!!!! A loose lead gives the opportunity for the horse to make their own decisions and a chance to think and give the right answer. It also shows that we're all relaxed, there's no danger. I find the minute I tighten up on a lead is the minute the horse I'm leading decides something must be wrong and all hell breaks loose. Lol. Even the most anxious and fearful horses will walk with me relaxed on a loose long lead.

It’s amazing to me in my work as an equine facilitated practitioner how many clients grab tight like that. Those with and without horse experience. It’s a great coaching and learning moment because after showing them how to hold the rope, you can see the fear to not have this illusion of control. Once we start asking questions we can see how tight and tense that person is in their mind and how they’re afraid to figuratively ease up in their life. Especially for those leading teams. It’s pretty transformative for them when they ease up, trust and let the horse (and teams) do their job,to realize they never did have control, and can have better results by not micromanaging and giving everyone space they need.

I always find myself tensing up when leading one of my horses. But I catch myself and let loose again. Just a stupid habit which isn’t good as a horse can Pick up on the tension so fast. Thank you for your input. 😊❤

AMEN! ❤❤They can feel the instant a fly lands on them. We need to calibrate our interactions accordingly. Some horses need to become more tolerant of pressure, some need to notice pressure earlier. Humans need to notice the amount of pressure we are bringing to the conversation in all interactions. That being said………when we take our horses to the vet, we put on a wide band/dull/light halter and light weight lead rope. We just get through it. Even though we would like to say…“please stop leaning on his head, hold your own arms up ” 😂

Ooo my pet peeve I tell people to loosen up the lead there is no way you are going to hold a huge horse you have to trust the training
