Your Lens Choice: Tight Wides or Loose Longs?

I feel that our constraints are what force us to use certain focal lengths, like a space being too small so you need a wide angle to capture it, and long lenses for subjects far away that you cannot get closer to But when those two constraints aren’t a problem then I’d say it’s based on the composition preference and feel you’re wanting to portray. I feel like the director of The Revenant could give a masterclass on this!

I found myself that my preference is around 70-90mm focal length in FF eqv. It is uncommon, but still... I dont like the unrealistic barrel distortion and I also like to step back and keep distance from my subject.

To me, 35mm millimetres is my sweet spot. Not too wide (because it creates distortion), not too close (because I am getting old :). 35mm is perfect. Cheers!
