Thank you so much for this message. I've definitely been on both sides of this -- struggling with my own mental health (and still am) and also trying to be there for friends who are in despair. Your advice is spot on, e.g., taking things one small step at a time (which can actually be the biggest step). When one is feeling totally overwhelmed or hopeless, it can be a huge victory just to get up in the morning, get dressed, maybe plan one errand to do in a day, etc. It's really important, also, that as the Church we give this message, and you do a great job integrating it with how God showed and enacted his love for each of us in Jesus. When I was in high school I was part of a church that was the opposite, unfortunately -- its line was that depression, anxiety, etc. pretty much always resulted from spiritual problems or underlying sins, and that repentance and prayer were the only way out. But I've come to realize that although there certainly IS a spiritual dimension to these things, that dimension is intimately connected with the rest of who we are as whole, embodied persons, and different kinds of help approach our wholeness from different angles.
