People often assume it is gender reassignment surgery, but the term that experts use in general is gender affirmative care. That can include things as basic as a social transition, where you use different pronouns and allow the child to dress in the way they want to. There is also the middle ground which would be puberty blockers, and while surgery falls under that umbrella it is pretty much never what that word means when we are talking people under the age of 18. If as a parent you are hesitant to let your kid undergo top surgery, I don't think many people would call that abusive. People feel all kinds of ways about tattoos, piercings and the like so that is probably connected, but if you refuse to call your child by the pronoun that they chose, and deny their self expression to a major degree, I would say, yes that is abusive. Kids experiences are heightened. We don't think twice if there is a dress code at our workplace, but it's possible that these kids never experienced anything like that before. This might be the first time they have a strong feeling about who they want to be, and if you say no to that first attempt at self expression, you aren't just saying no to a tacky, horrible dress, or an oversize hockey shirt, they might feel like you are saying no to their very person. When they grow up a little more and they start understanding, that it's not seen as a normal thing in society for kids assigned male at birth to wear dresses, or hockey shirts for assigned female, and that society in general rejects that. At that point they might start feeling like they are the problem. Everyone else, even the people that love them seem to feel like they are wrong about who they are. Try to imagine what that would feel like. Home is supposed to be safe, but if their parent's are just like everyone else, not on their side, that can have really ugly downstream consequences. Talking about puberty blockers, if you ignore the advice of a medical professional, one of which would always be involved if we get to this step, you essentially deny to the child the opportunity to make that choice when they are more matured had time to get to know themselves. If a doctor diagnoses that your child is epileptic, and needs medication which often has ugly side effects too, you don't think "but what if that medical professional that studied this all their life is wrong about the diagnosis?", at least I hope you don't. Instead you are glad that your child has a way to deal with their condition. This should be the same in our minds, but because this issue is so heavily politicized, it isn't. These doctors are seen as activists, and the kids are treated like confused victims of an overstimulating environment, instead of the very special and wonderful people they probably are. Actually those doctors are often forced to be activists, even though they just got into that job to help people, because they are the target of harassment and have to fear for themselves and their patients. The biggest reason why surgery at a young age is seen as inappropriate is because the body isn't developed. The mind isn't matured. What if the child changes their mind, what if their bodies change and complications start to crop up with the surgery? Those are good reasons, but trans people often feel like time is working against them. In puberty their voice will change, their bodies too, they might grow a beard or breasts, all things that are a constant reminder of being trapped in a body they don't feel they belong, therefore puberty blockers are the perfect middleground. Sure there are side effects, the whole situation is pretty dire though, so often times doctors will recognize that despite the side effects the gender dysphoria trans people might feel is a bigger issue and to buy a trans person time, to grow up without permanent change to their bodies until they can fully own the decisions they are about to make seems like a reasonable thing to do, doesn't it? Maybe denying that can also be seen as abuse. Not sure I have to address the jailtime. People often feel very strongly about child abuse and are in favor of harsh punishment as a deterrent. I personally believe in a rehabilitative justice system. Prison time, when used optimally can be a very rehabilitative time, so I am not generally against it, but in mild cases, where no physical abuse happened and it is obvious that we are dealing with loving parents, who are just struggling with the situation, I would prefer something like mandatory participation in trans child parenting self help groups. They exist and they are important. I shudder to think being a parent that sees their child go through a suicide attempt. Of course you are out of your depth, of course you blame yourself, of course you need help. We often assume parenting is something inherit within us, but it is very difficult and very important. before you drive a car you get driving lessons. When you mess up and drive under the influence you get sent to a self help group. Parents are generally on their own, with child protective services only coming in in times of disaster. I would love to see more resources freely available so that parents of children with experiences far outside of the parent's own lived experience, which is often the case with trans kids can seek them out pro-actively, rather than just learning about those resources when it might already be too late. I hope I don't come across as condescending or annoying, but I really care about this, and I believe you do as well, so I think I got to try and show you how I see this and why I agree with Khiara Bridges.

It depends on what you study. There are SOME serious college professors, and SOME serious college students. The problem is that most people shy away from the really challenging majors, like biology, chemistry, physics, math, computer science, a foreign language, etc, etc. It's easier for these students to take marshmallow courses led by Woke teachers who will happily give you an A+ as long as you go along with all of their social and political bullshit. Wow! What is it with all the hatred for women? Women can’t just be called women anymore without offending someone who wants to call themselves women who are not biological women. Jealousy? Why is it that because transgender people need to place the word trans before the gender they wish to be, that now biological women and men need to have cis before their biological gender? To me this is a form of hate speech toward biological men and women. I’m also tired of some of them claiming everything is transphobic. I believe what is happening is based on psychopathy and hatred toward biological men and women. I feel if someone wants to call themselves a man or a woman because they think they are, is their business, but making a life of victimhood out of it while trying to change the reality of anatomy and physiology of the human body and wanting the world to partake in the same thinking is ludicrous.
