100% obsessive thinking and overthinking will lead to hesitation and delay at taking action. The main thing is to keep active and doing things in reality, rather than staying in your head, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪

this is exactly the video i needed to watch this morning! fallen off the gym bandwagon over the last two months and it is absolutely no coincidence that my relationship with my self has taken a nose dive as well. i knew this was going to be the case - it is always the case when i slack on an element of self-care - and yet it's so hard to pull myself out of it. until today! don't think - just DO. merci robin.

Amazing!!! So relatable. Thank you for sharing 🙏 And the crazy thing is that once we’re “doing” it’s usually not as big of a deal as it was in our mind. I’m currently traveling which makes me feel like I “can’t go to the gym” but thanks to you I am committing to doing some body weight exercises in my room today!!! 💪💪 let’s gooo

Next 6 months: adopt and apply with action the principles of Reality Transurfing by Vadim Zeland. 1. Intention 2. Reduce importance to avoid pendulums 3. Thought control - avoid negative influences. By reducing importance in things imagined, energy is released. I can use that energy to have a better and earlier bedtime routine, which is all self care. Yay!

I’m a terrible over thinker/worrier amd procrastinator so thanks for this reminder to focus; I’m aiming to do some Hiit workouts as well as yoga and aim for 10000 steps most days. Eat more protein and a rainbow of veggies and fruit/seeds/nuts/pulses rather than the half hearted odd healthy meal and twenty minute yoga here and there approach I’ve had this year! Good luck to everyone trying to make some positive changes!

I agree so much with this idea of we love the things that we care for. I experienced it through the first months of motherhood. I believe the parental bond of love gets created through the acts of service and care we give to our little humans when the come to earth and they can’t do a lot by themselves. All those sleepless nights, backaches, ringing ears from baby crying and cleaning on repeat were a sign of love and service to a human I yet didn’t even knew and therefore created a bond.

These next six months I will be focusing on my relationship with myself (with the help of a therapist) and my relationship with God. For my relationship with myself, I plan to focus on my anxiety, my daily exercising, and my food intake. With my relationship with God, I plan to read the Bible, pray, and attend church. And thank you Robin for sharing. I am really enjoying your content.

I’ve never thought of this before. I did see studies on how asking others for help can increase our bonds with them, but somehow never considered that taking actions for ourselves would do the same. Timely to hear as in spending the day doing self-care while listening to this… and thinking about how I’m going to motivate myself to exercise later. 😊

Hi Robin! I wanted to say thank you for all the time, effort, creativity, research, passion, and love that you put into your videos!! I stumbled upon your channel fairly recently and safe to say I’m kind of obsessed haha. I am currently 27 married to my best friend and almost 3 months postpartum with our baby boy and on this journey to really take care of myself so I can take care of my family. I struggle with anxiety and have been working really hard in therapy, trying to walk 10k steps everyday, read books (I love romantasy and am also reading Atomic Habits thanks to you!), and getting ready the day with my skincare and makeup. Trying to establish these healthy habits has been life changing and I want to say you have been such a positive influence and light. I am filled with gratitude and inspiration when I watch any of your videos! I recently got the cleansing balm and am loving it. As a reward for me trying to establish these habits (I’m doing a little challenge), I’m debating on having a spa day or getting myself a LED light therapy device. I know you’re in the process of comparing some products so I’m excited about that! I recently listened to a podcast called Clean Beauty School where the host interviews a dermatologist Dr. Marmur and she has created her own device based on her research and passion. It’s called the MMSphere2go and I’m curious if you heard about it! Anyways, sorry for the long love letter but I just wanted to leave a comment. Thank you for inspiring me and encouraging me! Sending you love from Arizona! :) -Jemy

Hi Robin it’s Jemy again (but now from my own KZbin channel ahh can’t believe it!) Your response was very thoughtful and sweet just like all the content you put out into the world. Thank you for the sweet words and I know I don’t know you personally but I have this feeling you will be an AMAZING mama! I hope you are doing well. :) I wanted to comment as well because I value your opinion and want to ask you something. A little backstory - reading and writing have been my outlet and saving grace my entire life and especially as I struggle with anxiety and balancing all the adulting things. Thank you for sharing what you do because you have been a light in my life (even though we do not know each other personally.) I decided to bite the bullet and make my instagram and KZbin channel (my first video will premiere today at 4 ahhh)! I’m nervous but I am excited. I have decided to follow my childhood dream of becoming a published author and so my content will probably be around that journey but from a perspective of a 27 year old teacher turned stay at home mama and wife. I know it will take time and hard work especially with the season of my life right now but I am determined. You inspire me a lot! I am planning on a fantasy paranormal book with a hint of mystery and romance which is not for everyone of course. I am still in the very beginning stages of the journey! I have this video idea in mind based on some advice I read from Stephen King. He says it is important to read a lot and write a lot to be a writer because you can find things you want to do and don’t want to do based on different books. With that being said, I have this future KZbin idea (just an idea in general to help me grow as a writer) where I ask aspiring authors and book lovers on instagram/youtube to recommend a story that genuinely impacted them. My goal is broaden my horizons and learn from different artists and their storytelling. I would love to ask for your recommendation (and would totally mention your accounts if you wanted) and there is no rush at all on responding. If you actually read through all of this, thank you for your time. I can understand if you would not like to participate! I’m just happy to be able to connect with you! Take care always! :)

Awesome video - kind of easy to understand and get the hang of since it is genuine and sincere. Personally what shifted my mindset was when I talked to Buddhist monks who I found use to chant and repeat phrases in the morning - this is reminiscent of Islamic practices which honestly brought me back to self care and the care of others. The selflessness inspired self care and the discipline I lacked was formed by my daily prayers.

Hello Robin, Thank you for this video. Valuing action and doing over thinking is a powerful mindset. Especially when considering that action often encourages more action while over-thinking can trap us into a state of paralysis.The way you extended and applied the psychological theories made on the subject of romantic partnership to caring for one-self in general is very interesting and inspiring. Thinking of ourselves as active participants in our own relationship to ourselves is, I believe, an important step towards autonomy. However, I do think that limiting that extension to bettering ourselves can be damaging in the long run. I don't adhere to the belief that the individual is a substantial thing, completely detached from the historical and social structures that creates the very conditions to allow one to become an individual, that is, a being able to make free choices and develop its own autonomy. There's no individuals without a society that supports it. Paradoxically, caring for oneself is also, by extension caring for a (or multiple) community(ies). Engaging in something greater than the self (the exact thing you're doing by sharing and creating this space) can not only further our sens of autonomy, it nurtures our sens of belonging and creates meaning in our lives, far more than the individualistic mindset that can detach us from wider social engagement.

Perfectly timed, and beautifully expressed!! Thanks for this, and I do hope that you will continue this sort of conversation with us. I’m recovering from a lifelong depression and have spent lots of time and energy just learning how to retrain myself to a more self gentle and compassionate outlook. Along the way I’ve experimented with all sorts of self development work (physical, spiritual, emotional, nutritional, etc, etc.) Now that I have all these wonderful tools I find that my tendency to overthink gets in my way just as it has always done, lol! At least these days I’m better able to realize it’s time to pause (without harsh self criticism) and course correct. All the strategies and ideas can’t help me if all I do is endlessly rework them. Feeling blessed that I can think things through so much more clearly these days, and that I can take action and course correct without so much contingency planning. Onward and upward, right??
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare 6 ай бұрын
What a beautiful thing to share! Thank you 🧡 “I can take action and course correct without so much contingency planning” is so powerful. Onward and upward indeed!! This makes me think of my favorite parable, “The Parable of the Pottery Class” - have you heard of this one? In a pottery class, half the students were told they'd be graded on how many pots they made, while the other half were graded on making just one perfect pot. The group making lots of pots ended up making the better pots because they kept practicing and learning from their mistakes. Meanwhile, the group trying to make the perfect pot ended up making worse pottery because they were stuck worrying about making it perfect and didn’t have the opportunity to experiment and improve as much. Basically whenever I need the courage to do something (imperfectly or when I don’t feel ready) I just think “this is just another pot to practice with” haha So here’s to making many more pots!! ✨

I can relate with being excessive with otherwise healthy activities. For example I do enjoy exercising, but I always make sure I’m keeping a relatively high baseline of activity and it’s because I’m anxious about gaining weight. I also got a body fat scanner app on my phone but I must be using it wrong because my body fat measurement increased one week after the other for all three of my measurements so far, and it gives me a bit of anxiety. What you described about doing leading to feeling and loving. People have discussed that principle often when performing acts of kindness. Many religious/spiritual institutions have told people, “don’t wait for the spirit to inspire you to be kind and generous. Take action and the feeling often follows.”

I totally get where you're coming from! I’ve had times when I felt overly focused on tracking specific types of progress too, and it can definitely lead to some stress! And ultimately it strays me away from the initial reason I started doing whatever I’m tracking. Have you heard of Goodheart’s Law? Goodhart's Law is basically the idea that: “When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.” I’ve noticed that small fluctuations in measurements or performance are pretty normal, and over time, I’ve found that focusing on how I feel rather than the numbers has made a big difference for me..and also focusing on just showing up and building a certain type of habit, regardless of outcome. ❤️ Thanks for sharing your experience and that great quote! These conversations make my day.

In contrast, being the giver all the time can have the very opposite effect - people may stop respecting you, or, worse, start to avoid you, because they don't like the disbalance. Most people (not all) like to feel useful, and helping is a great way to achieve that.

@@nickknowles8402 Hey, I hope you’re having a great day! I just want to say that you are so very loved by God, He created you for a purpose. we have sadly all sinned by breaking Gods laws by doing the like having other gods, making idols, taking His name in vain, not keeping the Sabbath, dishonoring our parents, murder, adultery, stealing, lying, coveting, sexual immorality, fornication, divination, witchcraft, and more. Sin leads to death and it takes us straight to hell. But God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, who is One with God, to save us 💕Jesus was crucified on a cross to pay for our sins in our place, He never sinned but died as the sacrifice for us. He rose from the grave on the third day, defeating death🙌John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” If anyone repents and places their faith in Jesus, they will be saved ✝️ repent means to have a change of mind; we realize we have done evil against God which leads to turning away from sin and turning to Jesus 💖 when we place our faith in Jesus we trust that He died to pay for our sins and rose again, we trust in Him alone to save us and as the Lord of our lives 💕 unfortunately those who do not repent and trust in Jesus won’t be saved, they will go to hell. But God offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life in Jesus Christ the Lord. The Bible is Gods word; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the gospels of Jesus in the Bible. God bless you, have a great day!

Can't the Ben Franklin effect also work absolutely in a negative way? People asking for favors are kinda annoying or needy right?
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your great question! That’s what so interesting: even if we find the act of someone asking for a favor annoying, if we fulfill their favor request, we still can think of them positively or perhaps as someone that’s part of our tribe. This is because it minimizes cognitive dissonance and we subconsciously think: “I would only help someone if I like them to some degree”. But If we don’t fulfill their favor request, the Ben Franklin effect would not be relevant. Most of these theories are about minimizing cognitive dissonance in some way: altering our beliefs to align with our actions. There are studies on this, but keep in mind that these are psychological theories and psychology is a softer science… it’s not like the laws of physics. :)

I love that you brought up the idea that we love something because we take care of it. Truly, it’s exactly what I experienced in my life. The dedication to bettering myself and taking care of myself came first and that helped me to feel more self-confident and grateful for my body.

Act as if! I like to think of this concept as stepping into the version of yourself you want to be. If you want to work out more, eat healthier, etc, what is the version of you that embodies those actions, and how can you "step into" that version now? Journalling or "scripting" really helps with this too, writing from the perspective of this new self you want to become, as though you already are them. Thanks for sharing Robin! The change I've made recently to step into this ideal version is to practice a healthy morning routine each day, instead of jumping on KZbin for 2 hours before work 😅 So far so good!

Love this! Thank you for sharing 🙏 I am with you-I’m currently working on revamping my morning as well. Do you have any journaling prompts you especially love? I have one where I make a “future gratitude list” but I’d like to branch out. Enjoy your healthy mornings! ☀️ xo Robin

@@TheScienceofSelfCare Good question! I literally just came across one that's: "What are three things you're able to do in the future that you're not able to do today?" I like that it limits you to three things, and you can double down on those or change it up every time you revisit the prompt.

Really like this channel but it seems like you may be slowly moving away from science and more into "This is what I think kind of based on a couple of studies". There are countless other channels doing that already so please think carefully before going further down that path.

Great feedback! Thank you so much for sharing honestly. I’m going to keep this in mind as I continue to create other videos. I’m largely still experimenting and seeing what works-this info is invaluable! 🙏

Great stuff! An interesting video format to share the same info could be: Splitting up the studies and sharing the ways you’re applying them to your life. That’s the bit I was curious about but it never came;) Anddd, one act of self-love I’ve adopted this year (and hope to continue forever) is trimming my own hair every 3 months.

@@rupalrathore1531 thank you for this feedback! It seems appropriately aligned with the theme of this video: less theorizing, MORE DOING and showing 🙏 And I love the idea of trimming your own hair; it saves so much money! I’ve dabbled but I always end up looking a little crazy 🙃

Why don't you find out about Islam. And you can compare the Quran and the Bible. In Islam, Jesus is a prophet, not a god. And God is one, not three.
