The Dominican Republic, one of the most beautiful places on this planet, with some of the best beaches, landscapes, rivers and mountains you can possibly imagine; friendly people, great social life, incredible gastronomy, things to do and places to go 24/7, and, on top that, social, political, and economic stability (3 attributes very rarely combined); we are right now the seventh strongest economy in Latin America, with foreign investors pouring from all over because of the 3 factors above mentioned. Que viva la República Dominicana 😊

All of that might look good on a bumper sticker but doesn't paper over all the poverty that you can see when you take the teleferico. In terms of square foot that poverty covers Naco, Piantini and, well, the entire Distrito Nacional more than ten times over and that's just in Santo Domingo. Admittedly, Santo Domingo is a extreme case because all the economic activity and the "low skilled" labor it attracts relative to the rest of the country but other provinces have similar pockets of poverty and arrabalización. The people there don't have places to go "24/7". That we're the "7th strongest economy" in the region also means little to them in their daily life.

When I finally move there, my job is to make me happy; and create the conditions so she can be happy. I just don’t see why I should be seeing doom y glom in such a beautiful country. I think you’re spot on re: shift in perspective & focus on positivity. However, while some persons are negative by nature, I think that others are actually being defensive (based on some comments that I’ve seen, as opposed to intentionally negative). What I mean is, when they see & hear content about why others are leaving the U.S. for various reasons, some may see it as criticism, in favour of another place, then feel a need to come to the comments to highlight all the negative aspects of the other country, as a form of defence. I see it a lot on various channels. Otherwise, best of success on your journey 💯
