I live in Newcastle and she is a magnificent station. Highly recommend a trip up here, if not just for the architecture, but for then many heritage railways in the surrounding area... Like the Tanfield railway, and the Bowes Railway... This place is steeped in engineering, architectural and days gone bye kind of history!

I do highly recommend Newcastle. Went there last summer for a long weekend and it was brilliant. Apart from the station, you must see the Armstrong swing bridge, just a short walk away, the Discovery Museum, which houses the steam yacht Turbinia, the world's first steam turbine-powered vessel, and if you're up for making a weekend of it you must spend a full day at the Beamish Museum, the closest thing man has yet developed to time travel, an incredible look at life in Britain in the 19th & Early 20th Centuries. Particular attractions include their collection of antique trams & replica buses, the Pockerley Wagonway and its roster of faithfully replicated pre-Rainhill steam engines, and of course their Victorian station scene, complete with short demonstration train.

Hi Will The severn valley railway did feature in the tv series I mentioned to you on twitter called 'oh doctor beeching'. The station at Arley was turned into 'Hatley' for the tv show and several member of staff and rolling stock from there were used to make the show.

Will, I'm guessing you mean Glasgow Central Station and not Glasgow Queen Street. Although queen street is a really nice building Central Station is definitely one of top stations in the UK. Was always a good place to be as a kid in the 80's/90's to see and hear the trains that ran the west coast line.

LMR stands for Longmoor Military Railway look it up there locos had a very fancy paint scheme, mainly WD 2-10-0's 2-8-0's and Austeritys, but there has been a S160 painted in the colour scheme as well. You can get it in model form it is a bit rare and expensive but defiantly worth the money I think.

Yes, Gordon is available as a 00 gauge model, I believe Bachmann produce a model, though I'm not sure if it's still in production. Also, L.M.R stands for 'Longmoor Military Railway', if memory serves me right :)

LMR stands for longmore Military Railway ( not sure if that's how you spell it ) and was a railway operated by the military. It was used for training and things like that. I think it is now closed. Bachman do an N gauge model like the one in the picture in a train pack with some wagons or coaches ( can't remember which ).

Just like British Rail 'We're Getting There' ... 'Eventually!' This Hachette bunch should have called this 'Your Eventual Model Railway Village' though some of that supplemental information in the magazine looks very interesting. GLASGOW: Central and Queen Street are both termini - Queen Street definitely is for the Edinburgh line. Also LMR had two significances to the railway in Britain: 'Longmoor Military Railway' in the World War II era and 'London Midland Region' in the Post 1955 to Privatization 1997 era of British Railways / British Rail. I still refer to my 1980s (Hornby) Class 86 and (Lima) Class 87 locomotives as 'LMR Overhead Electrics' as this was correct at the time these were in service and the models were all released too.

The series looks to be good for attracting new people to the hobby, how ever the track they include doesn't look to promising as it's been pointed out by others to be steel which isn't good for modelling with these days unless you are doing Dai Woodhams Barry Scrapyard. I am a little surprised you don't remember BBC 1s "Oh Dr Beeching" filmed at Arley on the SVR, during the 1990's. Although I was young when it aired (being born in 1990) I remember fondly the BR (LMS) Green Ivatt Class 2 and 3 BR MK1s in Crimson and Cream with the theme tune taken from "Oh Mr Porter what shall I do". The show ran from 1996-97 with two series. Goodnight Mr Tom was also filmed on the SVR with a far few more.

InterCity82 the 812 class is the basis for Donald and Douglas in Thomas the Tank Engine. It can be seen on the absolutely GORGEOUS Strathspey Railway. I highly recommend buying a Bachmann Donald or Douglas and painting it in the Caledonian Blue colour and removing the face. A friend of mine has done that with his model. Are you still going to do the Caledonian Single Modification Project? Thanks you for reading, your TRUE biggest fan, Toby

MSEL Models & Engineering Yep, curve track make great ovals which create great train layouts on small to large tables. Model railroaders are to use their imagination to straighten the curves out into very long straights. Plus one gets to see more angles of a train on a curve.
