Hey!! I've been watching your videos as I just started my indoor plant collection. I decided to save the plants that were at a grocery store outside before a freeze. I now have 7 new plants I'm learning about. Of course, with sick plants comes bugs. So here is my question. I have two pots of monsteras that I need to repot. They also have aphids. Should I repot them after a treatment for aphids? How many should I put in one pot? They are all different sizes and some have larger spaces between nodes. Also, my kids have helped tear some of the leaves apart 🤦‍♀️ they have new growth but aphids are finding the new leaves! I love your channel and will be making a moss pole for them when I repot them. Thanks for all your help!

Its very difficult to actually see what you are focusing on as you put your plants on poles to climb? Your knowledge is quite valuable and I couldn’t be happier ! Thank you, I also have floor to ceiling windows snd South facing windows! Will you also recommend low light plants such as ZZ to go close to the lighting?
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try. It's difficult to do without getting recording equipment in the shot. There is no such thing as a low light plant. Only plants (like a zz plant) that will die slower than most plants in low light. ZZ plants can take a good amount of bright light.

Separating roots, and even better cutting from top to bottom on pot bound roots is very important on woody and long lived plants. Without doing so the roots can end up girdling each other and killing the plant. Always important to do on trees, but likely monstera or similar would not end up living long enough for it the be a big issue.
@rubymichelon3418

I’m so happy I found your channel, you’re amazing, I’ve already learned so many things!!! I have a quick question about a monstera my mom has, it’s been through a lot and I was hoping you could help🤞it had rot so we tried to repot it but the soil was a little damp so I think it ended up a bit too packed, it looked terrible, then she kinda shoveled more dirt on it so a good portion of the stems buried… do you think I should try to repot it again or just try to get cuttings from it to start over?
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 2 жыл бұрын
I think that depends on a lot of factors. Is the plant still rotting, how do we know? Was there root loss? Was there so much root loss it should have been put in a smaller pot? How was the plant treated to prevent the rot from spreading? What's the soil like? I think if all these issues weren't addressed than your plant might still be in a precarious state. It's a judgement call, I cant really make it for you without the whole story.

hey Lee, could you maybe make a video about hydrophobic plants, or plants growing in just water? I've seen in it TikTok and I can't figure out which plants to grow in only soil or only water. Is it even good to only plant plants in water? I'm struggling so much with these TikTok trends as a fresh plant parent
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 2 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of noise on tiktok, and its extremely difficult to communicate all the important information you'd need to answer that question. Now when you say hydrophobic plants - I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Most aroids (philodendron, pothos, syngoniums, monstera) grow well in water, it is a good idea to occasionally add nutrients to the water. There are aquarium plants that are meant to grow under water, but that's a whole other thing. I think your best answer on an individual basis is to google, "can (plant) grow in water?" and see what comes up.

hello, sometimes pests don't come with plants but they can sneak into your home when you are buying some soils also. In fact I had almost zero pests (maybe one or two mealy bugs in my rhipsalis baccifera) but last month I bought some orchid bark on Amazon for my anthurium, and bam ! since then I've been seeing some little black flies around ..... I try to treat the problem with castille soap and hydrogen peroxide, and also with yellow traps, but I assume that some pests are inevitable, they are part of the living things and I don't want to use harsh chemicals ..... I hope that those thrips will stay away from my plants !

I’ve watched your previous videos (some multiple times! You’re great!). I’m puzzled how best to set up this monstera for success because it’s planted in at least three, almost four different directions. I did a couple temporary bamboo stakes to give its heaviest stems support until I have a solid plan. A lot of the newer, smaller leaves look squished. I don’t thiiiink I should repot it right now because it’s the dead of winter in Berlin right now. Any chance I could send you a photo for your opinion? Thanks! I bought it as a 6" plant. Probably around 5-6 stems in there. I DM'd you on instagram a few days ago. Check your inbox!

Bro I have a question I have monstera that I repotted I purchased if from lowes they cut some of the leaves off that we're damaged BUT the plant is still creating jew leaves But the cut stems are starting to turn yellow and die I just wanted to make sure this wouldn't effect my seems that are still healthy?
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 2 жыл бұрын
Important to know the structure of the plant first: Leaf attached to petiole, petiole attached to the stem. If the store had cut the leaf off, and just left a petiole, eventually the petiole will turn yellow and fall off. The stem will still be healthy. The plant will continue to grow new leaves like your is.

I'm propagating two different type's of plants in a amber colored bottle and the water gets very stinky I rinsed everything but it keeps on getting stinky. should I be worried they only have few roots.

Could be the plants themselves that are rotting?

Are you adding fertiliser to your water? If you’re growing the plants lack nutrients usually received from the soil

You have to take care of pests over a month. Their life cycle is 2weeks. So after 2weeks the new baby pests will pop up...😅

I just googled it and learned that while it is commonly called Satin Pothos, it is not! I have one, that’s why I recognized it. 😊Edit #2: I also have a Silver Sword. 😄

scindapsus has such strange naming. I feel like 3 or 4 plants are often named silver anne/silvery anne/satin pothos in nurseries

I received a solitary cutting of a Monstera Deliciosa in a plant swap a few months ago. I did bury the stem when I potted it, and it has since just sat there in the pot, neither growing nor dying. My actual question is: should I repot it with the stem above the soil, or would it be better to repot the plant correctly? I'm still a little unclear on this point.

Monstera in a new environment, repotted, maybe in winter? Seems like it could use more time to grow.
