It might be disappointing that the channel is going away (for now) BUT I think the operative take-away is that the requested subject matter is thinning a bit, and they're going to add the best psych' videos they CAN still make to regular Sci-Show... SO it's not entirely vaporizing like "pfffft"... AND I think we can find comfort in that... In the meantime, there's also Psych2Go, Psychology in a Nutshell, and HealthyGamer GG with Dr. K... a tad advanced on some things, but useful no less... Dr. Marks has a channel, too... among quite a number of others... ;o)

@@gnarthdarkanen7464 I don't think it's just a case of a lack of further information to be shared but likely more to do with the financial side, especially since other channels are being closed as well.

@@aprildawnsunshine4326 In fairness, no... There's still a LOT of psychology that could be compiled into video form, BUT based on what I've seen among most of the viewer-requested information that works in a very basic "beginner" or "101" level of videos, there's only so far you easily get before it starts getting repetitive... Finances certainly have some to do with the whole thing... BUT I think Hank has a certain disdain for letting something get repetitive or threaten to become creatively bankrupt... SO the better answer is to put more effort per video to make something actually advance a little and still be worth watching... Then you run into the KZbin algorithm situation, and the algo's hate channels that don't upload on the regular... They're slow to attract attention and don't push much marketing... Thus, the "correct" rectification is to drop the exclusivity of Sci-Show Psych, and start peppering Psych' videos into the main Sci-Show channel... It's not "going away" entirely... just as they said in the video here... It's just going to allow more time and effort to be used to carefully curate the newer video's more properly for better quality content on the budget at hand... My earlier comment was a bit over-simplified, but it's not the easiest thing to balance precision with brevity... AND in my defense, this IS only a YT comment thread. ;o)

I am SO thankful to find ADHD content outside of ADHD-primary channels. It's still so misunderstood and information like this is very helpful to disseminate that information so that people at-large can have a better understanding of how it impacts people, and how it's not just "your son wont sit still and is annoying" disorder, which is what a lot of folks seem to think it is. :/

@BambiLena666

As a psychologist that also has depression, guilt is one of the prime psychological symptoms, memory and concentration problems are super common, the general theory is as the video said, the guilt and anxiety just eat at the brains energy. you see a similar effect on memory and concentration in people that struggle with anxiety. Though I do wonder if the study would be linked with social rules and shame, if then maybe antisocial personality types (not to be confused with antisocial personality disorder) would be more prone to depression.

as someone with bpd depression and adhd this video really covered all my phycology needs an I actually lured things on each. I've done lot of research on all of them. how is bpd involved u may be wondering. well we tend to throw tantrums like toddlers, mostly for the same neurological reason as toddlers, in fact i would have long drawn out tantrums as a kid and they where frequent. and if your wondering tantrums are one thing when they come out of a 2 foot baby child. but when they come out of a 5,5 adult who for most of my diagnoses thus far has been around 200 ib. its not little as you think. wen people like me do what is often called " splitting " we go into black and white thinking and get TEN TIMES STRONGER. we don't tend to feel a little sad or a little mad. we go to 100. and we FEEL 100. it happens in seconds. its like where missing a couple layers of skin emotionally so every little thing hurts. i can actually go on for hours with just pure rage bec of my depression bpd and adhd mix. im also really irritable du to not proper sleep constant rumination and chronic guilt. i get chronic guilt from my rage outburst that happen near daily to multiple times a day for hours. my family has to deal with all of it. they got trauma from it and some of them have anxiety. probably bec of me. ant they get triggered at yelling and have panic attacks. witch is what i do for hours often when i wake up. to top it all of the only way to treat all that is buy doing d.b.t. (dialectical behavioral therapy) for bpd (the depression primarily being a symptom of everything else) BUT, dbt is lured and Adhd is a luring disability. so it actually interferes with the only realistic treatment. so i have to treat the adht first. but I'm so exhausted buy everything and depressed that i cant even shower let alone go to therapy. bpd itself also interferes with adhd treatment and all treatments. i find that i can often "split" on doctors and rage quit if they don't have proper bpd training. they wont let me take some adhd medications bec im high risk of addiction witch is odd bec ive been diagnosed with adhd since i was 9 and nobody even questions whether I have it or not. if i need it i cannot be addicted to it. buy that logic your all addicted to water. sus healthcare system sus. and i do have rezone to be sus. bpd is highly discriminated against. adhd meds are very stigmatized. im also a trans man and look like a women to the doctors and lastly the waiting lists where i am are actually fucked. i have to wait 5 years to get into a proper dbt program. ive been in 2 kind of dbt like programs but their not the same. and in the city over the waiting list is 17 months witch is why my doctor refurd me out. but i got so upset with the waiting list (ive been through a lot at this point) i "split" and ripped the paper i was meant to Singh in have and i didn't have a copy. then i got totally side tracked with becoming homeless and the fact that i haaaaait my family doctor that i haven't been able to get a new referral there's much i didn't talk about i really have a lot to say tho. i wish i could say more but im writing to a void haha...

I never threw tantrums when I was little. I knew my sister, step sister and some friends would occasionally have meltdowns, and I remember wondering when I would finally experience whatever these “tantrums” were. I never did, and now at 33 I still have a great deal of patience and control over my emotions, as well as burning anxiety that I keep bottled up and buried deep deep down.

The salad thing.. I have a story that will conflict with the 'neat vs sloppy' presentation, thing. This is definitely one of those outlier stories that just don't fit the data. One of my very first places of real employment was when I was about 18. I used to work in a restaurant and my job was to prepare all the salads and sandwiches. My boss wanted them all presented in a VERY specific way. Someone ordered a Caesar salad, which was the easiest to prepare because the dressing was made way earlier and all I had to do was to mix it the lettuce then garnish it with 3 green pepper rings, crisscross 2 anchovies in the center and scatter some croutons and Romano cheese. Boom. Simple. And it looked fancy. The order went out and came right back. The waitress said the customer said it looked terrible.. Which was SUPER weird. It was perfect. The lettuce was fresh and everything. But, I remade it anyway and sent it back out. But, it came right back...same problem. FOUR TIMES it came back! I could not fathom what the problem was and neither could the waitress.. or the cooks! I was so irritated by the 4th time that I dumped the whole thing on the floor, stomped on it, then scooped it up, threw the mess on the plate and told her to give it to them a complete mess. It literally looked like it was pulled out of the garbage. Anyone who has ever worked in a kitchen knows how disgusting both the floors and your shoes get. I was fully prepared to get fired and I didn't care AT ALL because this customers shenanigans was causing me to fall behind on other orders. So, I was in a rush and very frustrated. I was ready to quit! Once again, she came right back, but without the salad this time. She said, "the customer said to tell you, thank you. It looked lovely that time" 😐🤨 what?? To this day, that still baffles me. The whole thing made no sense whatsoever. Oh and don't come at me because I stepped on it and sent it out. I was only a kid and that was 35 years ago. But, just in case, I recommend not sending your food back too many times. And if you do, be super patient and polite about it. Kitchen jobs are extremely hectic and stressful.

Very good SciShow/Hank and party. Really depression has a lot of symptoms, but it's pretty clear that without mental energy (mana, gamers) there's no patience, less focus, confusion, memory loss, strain. Between that and things like self-guild/rumination people that take up energy that people may have - when someone pushes or tries to push another past what they can handle with these issues, you get secondary things like anger, greater fear, sadness, etc. Sadness secondary? Well when you let people down and don't have energy, or you TRY to be there for people and ultimately let them down by unregulated emotions/behaviors (how can you manage those when you have no energy) well - I think professionals need to start paying attention to their more successful patients to start asking key questions - in the way perhaps people are intrigued and study Daniel Tennant with his great insight on autism. Mmm. Also side note - I think this info on ADHD is excellent and insightful. The comorbidity tween the two starts making a LOT more sense when considered together. Sleep - good sleep - is necessary for a refreshed brain. Period.

The medication gave me the energy it needed and i very much enjoyed using my mind as it felt like it had endless resources and no negative draw backs.

I don't think it's that complicated why staying calm does the trick best, and I don't think it's mirror neurons alone. If a tantrum is a threat response mechanism, and the caregiver doesn't respond as though there's a threat, then maybe the threat response is a false alarm. It's not just imitation, but also a calibration. Kids are learning by observation, imitation, and reasoning (even if that reasoning isn't of the structured variety), so I would hypothesize generally that staying calm triggers the process of trying to figure out if they're reacting correctly. I think toddlers are stuck in what adults would feel was a nightmare at times - less power and knowledge than situations require, but a strong desire to be independent. I imagine it must be infuriating.

Aren't there more legitimate reasons why certain drinks are served in certain glassware than just cultural norms?
@Kiterpuss
@Kiterpuss 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of glassware is shaped a certain way because they capture and direct the aromas to your nose in certain ways. Tapered curved glasses like a wine glass is a great example for this. Other glassware is designed to control temperature. The stem of a wine glass, for example, allows you to hold your wine without the heat from your hand warming the wine up. Bourbon/whiskey glasses are made from thicker glass for a similar reason. So yeah, there are genuine reasons behind those trends beyond just social norms!

The IQ video, IQ is supposed to find out how well you learn new things and adapt to new stuff. If it's about your "capacity" to learn, then any IQ test with math in it is bogus. And many (if not most) have some sort of math in them.

Theres too much in my brain to go to sleep. Also trauma contributed to my insomnia. I have to take sleep meds now or i dont sleep until my body shuts down. But yeah as a kid i would stay up till like 5 am and get up at 7am for school. But yeah im diagnosed ADHD, CPTSD, MDD, and Anxiety.

I don't have a copy of DSM-V but as I recall from the discussion predating the 5th edition CPTSD was to be defined and subsumed some of the dissociative disorders? I bet DDNOS diagnoses plummeted.

@@disorganizedorg CPTSD isnt in the DSM. Its Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and comes from being in a traumatic situation for years with no escape. Like a child who has to endure abuse because they have no other choice. Dissociation is a common symptom of alot of disorders. But no CPTSD isnt a dissociation disorder.

@@samiballew4609 Oh, OK; I'm outdated; the last I followed such was 2016, prior to DSM-V. Rather a silly question since DSM in all its editions is trash. '“at best, [the DSM is] a dictionary, creating a set of labels and defining each. The weakness is its lack of validity. Unlike our definitions of ischemic heart disease, lymphoma, or AIDS, the DSM diagnoses are based on a consensus about clusters of clinical symptoms, not any objective laboratory measure. In the rest of medicine, this would be equivalent to creating diagnostic systems based on the nature of chest pain or the quality of fever. Indeed, symptom-based diagnosis, once common in other areas of medicine, has been largely replaced in the past half century as we have understood that symptoms alone rarely indicate the best choice of treatment.” Thomas Insel, MD Director, NIMH (2002-2015)

I just hate the fact that @UCUdettijNYvLAm4AixZv4RA just collapsed. I voted for that channel to be the next new SciShow channel. I saw it grow and now, go in a coma. I'm glad that the content will stay to watch and enjoy while there's any update from the break of the hiatus. Thanks for the content and effort in educating us in this branch of science.
