Just picked one up and in the US you can grab the 2TB model for $159.99-$179.99 an Amazon, or a consistent $169.99 from the Crucial store. I'm not sure if I was lucky with the silicon or my makeshift heatsink made up of 6 mini heatsinks with adhesive on the bottom (I built a retro cyberpunk/industrial aesthetic PC so it works well) let's it stretch its legs a bit, but the read/writes of 6700/5900 are faster than what it is rated for, so I'll take it! Whatever the case, even at slightly lower than rated speeds its still a fantastic drive in general, and *great* for the money. Coming in lower than many of the 2TB gen 3 drives, this is a no-brainer pickup for some extra storage in a gaming PC, as well as media, home office, as an external device, and of course, for a PS5. As stated, I am not just satisfied, but thrilled with the product. With the provided warranty in addition to the rated hours of use this drive should last most users essentially forever, with little, if anything to worry about when it comes to dead sectors unless you're a Hollywood animator type of user, in which case a 2TB drive shouldn't be your main scrub drive anyway ;^p .

No joke. For 4k performance, SN770 just rocks. Sustained write speed is where it suffers, but for day to day tasks like OS, web browsering, gaming, code compilation, 770 is actually really good.

I haven't really tested many separate enclosures. The only one I personally use is the Cooler Master one which does cool the SSD properly and it's quick to swap SSDs in, but it's clunky and heavy compared to most externals.

What happens when you reach the TBW limit by using only 60% of the drive? Will it become a read-only drive instantly?
@whyjay9959
@whyjay9959 2 жыл бұрын
From what I understand you just lose the warranty. Wear is not so predictable. The drive will spread the work over all of its parts regardless, so the TBW count is for all of it. Though keeping a portion of it empty should still make its internal workings easier, preserving performance and possibly allowing it to do less writes for the same tasks in practice.
@blamethedingus2470
@blamethedingus2470 2 жыл бұрын
TBW is a calculation based off of writing for 24/7 365 so xGB per day/* 365/ * years of waranty = total write endurance per day which is always severely underestimated for the safe side of things, but 99% of consumer use is not going to write like that

How different is M.2 SSD and Gen 4? Are they the same type?
@whyjay9959
@whyjay9959 2 жыл бұрын
Those are completely different aspects. M.2 is a form factor- The shape, which also says what kind of slot you can connect the drive to. Gen 4 refers to the 4th generation of PCIe- A standard of data connection between the CPU and other components, allowing for roughly double the speed of Gen 3. This is an M.2 drive with a PCIe gen 4 connection.

@@memberberry462 if it's an OS drive it writes a lot, if you have crystal disk info installed you can see how much it's written and it's overall uptime, usually this number cannot be modified so it's almost always accurate, but you're fine not only does the crucial p5 plus have a 5 year warranty it's rated for anywhere between 300TB write to 1200TB (depending on the drive size 500gb - 2tb). I have some random dell sk hynix 512gb m.2 I've been using for a few years with around 250TB of write and it's showing 82% health and it's working perfectly fine. The p5 plus will last you well beyond it's warranty If your Evo drive is a mostly a static drive (gaming other occasional things NOT an OS drive it will last longer)
