I've been riding bikes all my life, and I've realized , I KNOW NOTHING!! I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southern Virginia, lots of very curvy mountain road's. But when it comes to real slow speed handling, I NEED WORK!! Thanks Jerry for these videos and I pray I can take your class someday, and you've already keep me from a major wreck a few times because of listening to your tips. God bless and God speed!!

When you hit the front brake in a low speed right turn, with the front wheel locked right, the front end will compress and drag the bike down! Like the master says “drag the back brake, and keep power to the rear wheel! Thanks Jerry,something I learned the hard way.😂

The fastest I've ever seen a bike get dropped was when a guy JUST BOUGHT it and was still "Flintstoning" it across the lot... Hit the front brake... with the forks very slightly turned... in gravel... SPLAT... Had to stifle a chuckle, myself... BUT you could probably hear the guffaws of his buddies all the way to the county line... Poor guy very nearly chucked himself over the handlebars! ;o)

Doofus checking in. I bought your course in 2008 at Leesburg and bought it again with the extra DVD's in 2017 off your website. I have been going through your KZbin videos for inspiration and ideas. Today, I did the slow race and the cone weave at 12' with the 24' U-turn at the end. FLHTKL 2017. Several surgeries and new hips later, I am finally doing the course with this bike. You helped me be a better rider with my prior Harley, a 2008 Heritage. I put the motorcycle drop guards on and put a softbrake reduced reach clutch lever on my current bike. I did the exercises for about an hour and was able to do the dips and weaves pretty well. I just think of you yelling head and eyes, head and eyes. I am pleased with the results. I liken my session today to a baseball player using a donut on his bat. After dipping and weaving 20 times are so, it seemed as though the weight of the bike was so much lighter...technique, technique, technique made it easier. Still a doofus, but working on shedding that title. I haven't found the lean limits on my bike yet, but that will come in the coming days.

Refreshing to see an older man driving as I am always being counselled to get rid of the bike. As a matter of fact I read an article in a popular psychology magazine" That Motor Cycle Driving improves many motor skills and thus keeps the brain nimble and younger". Ha ! take that know it all,s "provided that you are healthy and capable of handling a motor cycle!" and making sure to always stay informed about bike safety. Thanks Jerry.

Will try to practice the rear brake as soon the snow ❄️ is away.

I suggest looking 12 seconds ahead of your path of travel. Do so, and you'll have plenty of time to find an escape path. Looking 100 ft ahead, as most people do, and you'll be saying, ''it happened so fast, I couldn't do anything about it so I had to lay her down''.

Come by Roan Mountain... I've got a PERFECT little intersection with VERY LITTLE traffic... BUT there's nothing straight, square, aligned, or even remotely flat (let alone level) about it... It's sort of like practicing Jerry's "Clover-leaf" on intersecting staircases covered in gravel and broken asphalt with a liberal dusting of sand... Out here in the Appalachians, you get good quick or get dead quicker... ;o)
@motorman857

@@gnarthdarkanen7464 The type of terrain you're talking about would be best on a dirt bike. Practicing in such conditions on a street bike would be just plain stupid. Street tires on heavy weight street bikes are designed for well, the street.

@@motorman857 Well... for better or worser... There's not much point in questioning WHETHER the road's jacked up around here... it's jacked up. The "right question" involves "where" and "how"... BUT I get along fine on most street-bikes. You just learn to take it a little easy on the side-roads... AND my 95 Savage 650 handles that particular intersection just fine... including the "cloverleaf" exercise... though I just use the ditches for markings rather than bother bringing any cones or "crude stand-ins" along for it. Maybe we're just a different breed up here in the mountains. (lolz) ;o)

My trouble is that I'm still afraid to lean. Also, the other thing I really struggle with is that since birth we're told "look where you're going" (i.e right in front of you). In these techniques you look where you're *supposed* to go (i.e. to the green cone) instead of looking *where* you're going (i.e. right in front of you). It's a life-long habit that's so hard to lose. Does that make any sense?
@motorman857
@motorman857 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Looking where you want to go is the opposite of your instincts. The good news is looking where you want to go works in everything from skiing to roller skating, to surfing, to driving your car. But you want to learn this technique it's best to practice this under controlled conditions where if you screw up, you hit a rubber cone and not a tree.

In my 23 years of teaching, I've never run across a single person who had those good instincts. I have had riders who THOUGHT they had good instincts until they tried to avoid a rubber cone and instead, looked at the cone, and ran right into it. Their ''good instincts'' failed them when they tried to lean, turn, or swerve quickly. After 3 or 4 drops they realized their instincts sucked and what they need was technique.

It depends on what that experience consists of. If it's like most people, that would be cruising down the road making big sweeping turns once in a while, and coming to a nice easy stop. THAT, takes zero skills. Having the ability to lean turn and swerve quickly, that takes training.
