Good inspirational video! You've renewed my hope. I'm 66 and retiring in a few years. I've already started well. Just don't have my property yet. I'll get there.

You are such an inspirational person! You and your family put your heart and soul into the business and deserve so much praise and respect. You inspired me to start my nursery business 3 years ago at the age of 60! It hasn't been easy but entirely worth it, I'm learning more and more every year, somethings I will continue to do and somethings I won't. My goal is to start propagating my own plants thanks to your videos. Thanks again for sharing your story!

Keep them coming with new ideas. Pumpkins from wholesalers and Christmas trees and fire wood and rocks and stones. Just an idea to extend your summer and fall sales and to keep them coming just to see what's new. Keep doing what you're doing. Like the old commercial used you say "you've come a long way baby". Lol

Really great and encouraging! Lots of room for local growers all across the country. People do like to buy from local people. Grower seller has some real advantages; no middleman, no trucking costs, often no rent to pay, minimal paid labor, very low cost of goods sold. You can easily compete on price. Lots of room to specialize too! Thanks for the excellent video!

Morning mate. I get very invigorated watching your videos. I'm in the UK and am in the process of buying a two or three acre place once the sale of my property goes through. Through watching and talking on board what you share I've now managed to get loads of different types of conifer to take and grow on. I can't wait to move and start my journey to fulfilment. All the best mate 👍

Another great podcast and totally agree! I’m a hobbyist plant, flower, vegetable seller. I plan to go full time in a year or so. I sell everything I grow just at one small farmers market and from my driveway. It really helps to learn about and grow things that do well in your area. People love native flowering perennials, native milkweeds, salvias, and things that will reliably survive freezes and even floods. Become the “Plant Guy” in your neighborhood / area. People want great advice they can rely upon. Take pictures too! People will buy plants based solely on pictures of the flowers. Fresh produce and flowers are also in HUGE demand. I cannot remotely grow enough peppers, tomatoes and flowers on my current schedule.

I started a janitorial company an answering service and paging company My friends and family thought I was nuts because there was lots of these business There's always room for more in all business You just have to make yourself known have great products Stick behind your word Take care of your customers Word of mouth can make you or break. To be successful in any business take care of your customers and they will take care of you. This is only my opinion

If you grow local eco-type native plants, you'll be in a relatively untapped market. There's only one grower anywhere near me, and their supply is very limited. Right now, there's a huge push to undo some of the damage caused by Big Green, the horticulture industry, and more folks are trying to get their local governments to mandate the use of local native plants for government projects. The last thing we need are more non-native plants, even if they aren't invasive.

100%! Native flowering perennials that reliably come back year after year are in huge demand. People are tired of replacing plants that die in freezes and / or in my case floods.

Thanks for making this video. I guess it comes down to what you define as a pretty good nursery. At my tree nursery I defined it as being able to sell enough to provide a full time income after expenses and after 5 years I haven’t gotten there yet…. Whereas someone else would look at my Nursery and say 15,000 trees and shrubs?!? Thats incredible!

At the 2:00 minute mark, you have a green potting soil scoop that I have seen before... Where can I find that? I've searched on Amazon but only found tiny ones.

Not sure about his specific one but we just use animal feed scoops. The metal ones are $15-30 generally, plastic maybe half that. Just go check out your local farm supply shop - they’ll have them.

Kinda off the rails here, how can I find unadulterated dirt for organic vegetables? Nebraska gets sprayed almost daily with chemicals. The dirt is soaked with chemicals. My husband is a water manager and he cannot find an aquifer that’s not contaminated.
