It'd be cool if you ran a test with a lone striker too, just to see if the passing attribute went away. I'm surprised strength and off the ball weren't up there more

Agree with the above suggestion of doing the same with a lone striker. Did you always play two forwards of the same type in your 4-4-2? Two poachers, two AFs etc.

i still dont get what finishing is supposed to do because the descirption is incredibly vague. whats "the ability to convert a chance" supposed to mean? that sounds like its a summary of attributes like technique, antizipation, off the ball, and others.

I'm gonna guess when a chance presents itself to a striker, the match engine goes through each stat of a player before deciding whether he'll score or not, and stats like anticipation and technique matters more than finishing.

It sounds like it's the last thing on the list - like the player is in the open in the box with a chance to shoot. Finishing might be the difference between a fingertip save by the keeper or hitting the post and finding the back of the net. And it might depend on distance. How much Finishing would you need when you're 5 feet from the goal and the keeper out of position? But from the far corner of the box at a sharp angle or need to curve it to evade the keeper, it might matter more. If you have a lot of the other things like mobility and good offensive mental abilities, the player will get in those spots where Finishing will matter less (or not at all). So a fast player who can dribble can just drive closer and find open net. Acceleration makes sense to be highly and even most important because you're in small spaces around the box. I would imagine GK quality matters too. Might need more Finishing to beat a keeper with 170+ ability and high reflexes, positioning, and anticipation to pick out those areas where the ball can find the net. A horrible keeper would let any old shot in that isn't like right at him. Also, these tests - do they mirror the ranges of the typical game in attribute vs attribute. At some point, I wonder if the experiments are finding the weaknesses in the match engine than the importance of ratings in typical scenarios.

Appreciate the video. So strength isn't the top at the list? Interesting. So its all about speeeeeed, technique and anticipation,eh? BTW, what about Concentration?? I read at the tooltip that concentration and anticipation synergises well and its good for all players.

It feels like everything is always speed based in FM :) Concentration never really ranks super high in any of these tests, but never at the bottom really either.

Strength is very high up. I always play 2AFs and only surprise for me here is passing, but I totally buy his explanation about 2 AF feeding each other (they do it constantly and have most assists in 2 AFs tactics from my experience), thus increasing goal tally

I am not surprised, SI is very misleading about a lot of things in the football manager game. Sometimes they have lied about certain aspects of it.

I feel like the match engine is complicated enough that they don't necessarily know what is the most effective attribute etc
