The great Allan Watts entertains various points of view in order to illustrate curious aspects of life when your own thoughts may be counterproductive and make you live in a loop of continuous self insufficiency.

One of my favorites from Alan Watts: "The most important thing in human life for one’s sanity is to be able to be playful or to be able to do things which are sublimely useless."

"A person who thinks all the time, has nothing think about except thought" Your mind is a tool to be used, not a friend to be trusted, at some point you've thought so much that you've lost your senses and can no longer see the world for what it truly is. Being so entangled in thought has formed insecurities and irrelevant fears. Overthinking is your worst enemy yet your greatest instrument, not only does overthinking affect yourself, but it also affects the people around you. However, when you wake up and stop thinking.. opening your mind to possibilities that have been locked away are now released, no longer entranced in thought, everything you were thinking about before is nothing but delusion. Thoughts do not exist

@Willywombat Same here, but with drugs. And not the smart ones, like psychedelics, either. The dumb, and harmful ones is sadly what I choose because they helped me to forget about and not feel my true feelings. I feel so... silly just thinking that I tried to escape this reality in such an extent as to not caring about my own health or life. I was about to resist what I am feeling right now just by thinking about it... but I suppose I'll dive right in instead of pushing my feelings all away like I nornally do. Its time to meditate, since I am ready to feel now. Shadow work feels painful but is so very needed!!

If you cant trust yourself(your mind), than how can you trust the mistrust of yourself? I would rather trust myself knowing very well how mischievous everyone can be and allow a certain amount of rebellion to occur rather than to treat my own mind like an object. My mind is an extension of myself, to treat it as a servant or an object is to treat myself as such. I would rather treat it as a friend rather than anything else.

I think you are too attached to your thoughts. You are identifying with your thoughts as if they were you. They are not. You can clearly see that in others why can't you be able to see it in yourself?
@The21Marine
@The21Marine Жыл бұрын
@@carolynbridgeman5981 I dont think your right, allow me to elaborate, I feel as if our thoughts are reflective of our expiernce. Our thoughts have no choice but to reflect, what it chooses to reflect is of no consequence towards our betterment or our betrayal but simply reveals what it determines to be of value. From this inherent truth you may view your thoughts as being a servant or a friend, both will have the same behavior but offer a different context or lense to view the expiernce from. This determination of value may in fact be to reveal or hide certain phenomenon from our consciousness. To treat it as a servant, for me, has a context of me being in control and will serve my every wish. This context views thoughts as an extension of oneself, just as willing my arm to grasp an object. My arm is an extension of myself, it is me, it serves me. This indicates the value that it determines to present me with will always be what I desire. Depending on what I may desire, I may become aware of thoughts that in fact do me more good than bad due to my inherent limited knowledge of reality. To view my thoughts as a friend, I am aware that the information that im being presented with is coming from a different place, a place that is not of my own but from another. This "friend" perspective i feel offers me to be more unattached from this aspect of expiernce. My thoughts are still an extension of myself however viewing it this way allows me to come and know the inherent unpredictability of my thoughts. I give my thoughts more autonomy which allows me to question them. I do not question my arm because it serves me, I question my thoughts because it does not serves me but presents me as an semi autonomous aspect of myself. I hope this made it clearer.

No mind is the most idiotic lack of understanding about human beings and humanity. To grow a mind is the purpose of life and everybody mistakenly says that the brain is the mind. So much ignorance and oppression.

Life’s to short to be full of fear and just work day in and day out. I’ve been homeless living in the rainforests and beaches of Maui for 2 months before and it was the best time of my life. The brain and the mind are not the same and while one is matter the other is energy and you need to grow this energy. To refer to the mind as a tool is really outdated and ignorant. The mind is bigger and more purposeful than one can even imagine but first you need to grow one it is not given at birth. The thinking needs to be creative not destructive. Opinions are general habitual thinking. To become someone else? To become inspired is the goal… the purpose is to grow an a mind of your own.
