Nice calling out the instructions add. Would be very helpful for some things. I ended up grinding down the rpm heads similar to how gpm made. Great vid.

Yeah it's really annoying to get a bag full of parts and no information on how to use them. Usually you can figure it out but like in this case I really don't know why those rubber o-rings were in there. Someone said they should go under the head of the bolt and I guess maybe that's the space it off the arm to make it easier to install but I tried it and then the nylon part of the lock nut doesn't engage. It also doesn't clamp down on the arm as well. I'm fine with just leaving them out.

The orings seems to be over-torque strain relief. They go under the head of the hinge pins, but not at the top outer front pins...more on that later. The oring squishes as you tighten the connection. Too much torque will squeeze the oring off. This way you can screw on the nut just til the pins' thread passes the nylon of the nut without any axial pin slop. As for the top outer front, no washer at all for maximum clearance for the steering knuckle. Actually, no washer at for the front upper arms. The thin metal washers are for the shocks.
@DoRC
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
Yeah I ended up not using any washers or o-rings on mine and it was just fine. Simply tightening until you just reach the end of the threads allowed them to be pretty much perfect with no binding whatsoever. Been running like that for a while now and I haven't had any issues. I'm sure running the o-rings will be fine but I just don't see any need for them. Thanks for watching and commenting and if you enjoy the videos a sub is appreciated :-)

@@DoRC An off topic question: I assume that truck was well used before you did this video. How in the world did you get it to brand new clean?!
@DoRC

I wash my vehicles with a hose after pretty much every bash and then blow them dry with compressed air. It keeps them pretty clean. I'd also fairly recently done a near complete rebuild on this truck so that helped too

Yeah it's pretty common for the pins to come out. I ended up not using the o-rings. From what I've heard they are designed to go behind thin bolt head to allow it to be easier to tighten. I didn't find them necessary so I just left them out. Thanks for watching and if you aren't already subscribed a sub is appreciated :-)

I just took a look at it and if you're talking about how to get the nut in there I'm pretty sure there was a bit of finger gymnastics involved and using one of my very small pairs of pliers or maybe even a very small wrench. I don't exactly remember at the moment sorry.

I'll have to check it out though keep in mind that titanium typically isn't quite as strong as good quality carbon steel so unless you need the lightweight it's not necessarily advantageous

@stitchcompany291 I'm not sure. I don't really know the specific metallurgy of the GPM stuff. I will say that these particular parts seem very strong and are probably at least on par with titanium.

I don't usually provide links or information on where to get things for two reasons. the rubber o ring goes next to the head of the new pin bolt
@DoRC
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
Yeah I tried to use them on both sides and wasn't really happy with either end. I don't honestly really see any reason to have them at all so I just left them off. It's possible they are there just to make installation easier since the heads of the bolts are so thin but I have A pretty wide variety of tools that allows me to install them easily anyway. Plus I like the idea of The pin bolt itself clamping down on the sides of the arm reinforcing it and having that o-ring in there would reduce the strength of that.

@@DoRCm2c hinge pins come with the o-rings aswell but i don't see why unless its to stop binding but you can use a washer instead. I left them out aswell
@DoRC
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think is that they are there to make installation easier by spacing the little thin head out from the arm. Personally I tried it and it actually prevented the nylock part of the nut from engaging completely so I just left it off. On all of mine when the nut bottomed out on the threads it was basically perfect as far as tension was concerned so I didn't even use washers.

@DoRC
@DoRC 10 ай бұрын
Not entirely sure. I ended up omitting both of them and have had no issues with it. I think the o-rings might be a space the bolt heads away from the arms so they're easier to get to but they also stop the lock nuts from completely seating so I just left them all off and it's been fine.
