@@CigarsDaily I wasn’t even kidding. Leaving an “edit” in the Final Cut was pretty cool. Almost like a real time blooper … maybe that’s just me. I did go and buy the three AJ’s you recommended and smoked the Dorado. Not sure it’s gonna replace my AF R44s which are $4 less expensive but the Dorado was a great smoke.

2:40 - It never occurred to me that fillers, binders, and wrappers could burn at different enough rates to necessitate _mindful matching_ of all three. Thanks for that realization! The more I learn about the _science_ that goes into this _art,_ the more I appreciate how _magical_ a seemingly simple cigar truly is. Beyond that, I didn't realize Maduro isn't a specific wrapper, but when you said it, I did some quick research. Now I understand why the Gurkha Park Avenue Maduro and the Mark Twain Memoir Maduro are like two completely different worlds! The former is a dark Habano wrapper, while the latter is a dark Pennsylvania Broadleaf. The difference between those two examples _also_ drives home your point that _dark_ doesn't _always_ mean _intense._

I think I'm just an odd duck, my 4th cigar ever was a La Fleur Dominicana double ligero and I absolutely loved it. The manager at the lounge was looking at me like I was crazy and even quizzed me on how I was going to cut the cigar because he thought I had no clue. Leftovers of a misspent youth, my taste buds are not very sensitive and I have a high tolerance to pretty much anything that gives a buzz. 😅

I love these videos Tim! Very informative. Currently I'm smoking an Olivia Serie V Maduro. And I gotta say, this is a nice cigar! The issue I have is being able to identify all the different flavor notes a cigar has to offer. I'm little by little starting recognizing when a cigar had a leathery note, or an earthy note, but at time I try to look for the cocoa, or coffee, or even dark fruit notes that most cigars have to offer. I've seen where you would review individual cigars and explain the different notes, and I myself would smoke the same one as I am watching your videos to see if I can pick up on them as well. So, do you have, or will you have, a video that explains how to look for flavor notes based on what leaves, binders, and wrappers are being used in a cigar?

When I first got into cigars I found your video from the early days of the channel on wrapper leaves and it taught me a lot. For a couple months I was a solid shade smoker. Eventually I was suggested a serie G with a Cameroon and a Camacho Criollo. Then I found the H Upmann Banker which sent me down the Habano path until I found corojo and felt like I fell in love all over again. More recently I'm consistently reaching for a broadleaf more than anything else. If not a broadleaf then just about anything made by AJ Fernandez whether it's his brands it brands that work very close with him like diesel and man o war.

Wonderful review of wrappers. Over 500 years actually for cigars and they have grown in complexity. For wrappers I look fro the quality of the wrapper. Color is interesting, however, the filler and binder can play a roll in strength and flavor as well. Maduro is a mature fermentation of the leaf and as you said, can vary in strength, and is misused. The flavors is what I look for as I try the cigar. There are Connecticut Shade, Oscuro, etc. that I find wonderful. Try them out as you go along. There may be a particular Connecticut that has the flavor you are looking for and a Maduro. Sumatra and San Andreas are along with Cameroon that are fantastic and have a nice sweetness to them.

Awesome video, Tim!! Can't wait for part 2. When I started smoking cigars, the first blend that blew me away was the Melanio Maduro. That thing took me to heaven. Unfortunately, many people think I'm being pompous when I tell them what I like, because I'm a newer smoker. I'm assuming that since I'm newer they think I'm trying to look like a hard ass smoking San Andres and Nicaraguan blends. What would you tell them? I just tell them that's what I like, and figured it was how they were viewing me, more than me trying to assert myself. Also, if you read this, have you tried the West Tampa red, yet, and if so how'd you like it? I hate to say this, but I think I like it better than The Attic 🤫
@ChimcharrNo1 Жыл бұрын
You gotta smoke what you like, most people recommend Connecticut shades to newbies but the issue is they can be quite bland, if you have had a full meal and have a nice sugary drink and smoke in a well ventilated area you can for sure smoke something stronger than a Connecticut
@badnewsbruner Жыл бұрын
@@ChimcharrNo1 I use nicotine daily, so the strength never has been an issue for me. I've never had a cigar make me nauseous fortunately, even without eating. great video. I know you did a short on the Oliva cigarillos but I would love a full review. I can't find these brick and mortar anywhere. I deliver furniture and me and my partner smoke cigars to stay awake. He's trying to cut back. (we smoked a couple of West Tampa Black a few weeks ago and it put a hurt on the throat) I'm hoping these are the answer. How long do they take to smoke? How close are they to the regular Olivas? Do they really not need any humidor time? What about the tobacco mites?

Lately I have found myself drawn to more bold and full flavored cigars. I am guilty of identifying a darker cigar as being just that even though I know there are exceptions. I love the sight of a dark Maduro or Oscuro wrapper. The darker it is the more attractive I find it to be, and going by that when I smoke something new I'm not usually disappointed.

@aaronsmith7817 Жыл бұрын
The cap of the cigar has been sweetened, literally. I don't know what they use specifically, but I suspect that simple sugar syrup and maybe honey are popular choices, based on the handful I've tasted. Personally, I'm not a big fan, but dinner people love them! I had a Deadwood Leather Rose recently that was sweetened cap. It was a it good cigar.

I've honestly never settled on a particular wrapper. Fillers are more my sought after leaf. That said, there are obviously some wrappers more suited to my preferred fillers so my humidor is mostly full of the same type of wrapper. I guess it's still a fairly accurate stereotype to see a blond wrapper and know it'll be more mild, put out a ton of light smoke and won't set your nose hairs on fire. While a darker outer leaf will have more umph and make your face imitate Clint Eastwood, with smoke not as light blue as the more blonde wrappers. But I'll smoke whatever you give me... :)
