Looking great! Awesome to see it running. I'm using a server rack also. I had Anderson plugs on mine , it was difficult to pull apart and I kept breaking the glass axial fuses. Gone back to the lugs with a nut and bolt. Looking forward to the next episode. Keep up the great work and entertaining videos!!! Have a great weekend

You've got the fan noise backwards. 120mm fans make less noise, generally, because they don't have to spin as fast to move the same amount of air.

@AveRage_Joe6 жыл бұрын
I wanna say knurlgnar in one of his videos showed how to do that but its been a while since Ive watched them! Ill have to try hyperterminal again, someone told me a while back that I couldnt have the network card installed at the same time when trying to use the serial port. That was my problem back then but havent tried since I got powerchut to work.

@imchris19787 жыл бұрын
I made my own cable its easy I just used google picture search I had the usb but for some reason I had way more options with the serial cable. Also just realised yours is the 3000 I had the 5000 it had 3x120mm fans that were 24v if you add more fans make sure yours aren't 24v to as 12v ones dont really like 24v
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
Yep, these fans are 24v also. Ill try a wack at the serial cable because I want more options!
@Furiends7 жыл бұрын
Using serial won't give you more options in PowerChute as the interface is exactly the same. All the network interface is doing is also sending commands over the serial except it provides a web interface. On the USB bus its announced as UPS device so OSs will see it as one. Other than that its just sending the same serial data to it that it would over a serial cable. As for compatibility that hasn't been my experience. I guess it depends on what software you wanna use.

So is your watt meter battery backed up? I think those normally lose the data when the power shuts off (and the UPS WILL shut-off when the battery level gets low.)

No it doesnt have a battery so it will loose its data. I wonder if I could change some of the battery info in the ups for extra run time?

Hi Joe, love your video's and all the work you have done.. I have just aquired the exact same APC 3000 unit you are using here, and will be using Evo 280 Amp cells for my power supply. I need a little help with powerchute, i downloaded the 32bit version and cannot get it to see the ups. which cable did you use? USB to rj45 or serial??
@AveRage_Joe3 жыл бұрын
Nice!!!! Yeah I ordered some Lishen 272ah in Jan! Not hear yet tho. Eeek its been a while since I messed with all that lol. I was an ordeal. I think I showed what all I did in one of these videos around the time of making this video.

ya they are fairly cheap like $8ish to like $15 but i bought one for ac current think i was going to make a cheap kill-a-watt meter and by time i bought a box and plugs and a cord locally i was in it like $35 and i know you can get a kill-a-watt meter for like 20 or 25 but mine has a 6ft cord that is 12 awg and 2 plugs so whatever

@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
Beep Fixed!!! 😃 More wattage from the APC 1500? If so then YES! You have to tear it down and add some transistors and resistors then change some settings. knurlgnar24's has some videos about it here kzbin.info/aero/PLdImEedbzeWSpxQpQpqnFEKa5NKYXXe-V

How did you get past the runtime? It shuts down even when the batteries are fully charged via MPPT and solar. It's a IBM UPS1500THV and fixed the beep with the powerchute but still trying to figure out how to do it via the terminal to add more packs?
@AveRage_Joe4 жыл бұрын
You may need to do a calibration test. That will reset the runtime to your batteries!

oh we're getting serious now. usb cable was standard for mine. I wonder if you do your capacity test with the UPS, maybe it'll think you've extended the batteries and show it's full Li-ion capacity.. If you let it run all night and the capacity is more than what the UPS thinks it has time left, it'll shutdown even before the battery has run out of power. Watch out, he's going to use a SWAT meter.!!
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
Sheit is getting REAL!!! LOL Ill probly try connecting through the lan so I can keep an eyeball or 2 on it from other PC's. Ill do a real capacity test once I get the solar hooked up so Ill have a way to recharge it. Its still running right...MEOW 😝
@Furiends7 жыл бұрын
From the manual there is a setting for capacity. Just looking at the video I believe this is interpreted by the "Connected battery packs" setting which will just be a multiplier of that UPSs battery pack size.

Hey Man, huge fan! I've got the same UPS as you do from a recycler and when i hook my lab power supply to it to mimic a battery it turns on(sort of). Now i want to load test it with my powersupply but i cannot get it to really start up and provide power to a lightbulb for example. Do you have any tips? Also the usb is a network cable, do you plug it straight into the computer and download the software? Love you channel, big fan!
@AveRage_Joe6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Nice! How many volts are you supplying to it. It should work from about 42 to 58v and it would have to supply about 3-4 amps. Yeah I used the usb network cable thingy and downloaded the bis edition of powerchut to get into the ups to turn off the beeper and changed the external battery pack setting to the highest it would go and that was 99packs.
@TomTheDutchy6 жыл бұрын
@@AveRage_Joe thanks for the reply! I want one of your tshirts, how much do i have to donate with patreon?(im a poor student but i really want that shirt :D, are you planning on making a right....mweoh shirt :D?) i ran it at 55 volts and it took about 0.3 amps running stationary, but without being connected to the net. There is no voltage on the output so i wonder if i have to connect it to the net or change some settings....
@AveRage_Joe6 жыл бұрын
For Patreon you would need to choose the $25 dollar option to get a shirt but I also have the t-shirts on amazon with a link in description box if you wanted to go that route also. My ups takes 2 amps at idle so im thinking yours isnt turning on all the way. Are you holding the on button long enough. I hold the on button until it starts to beeeeeep then let go cause if you just hold the button down for a second or two its not fully on. Let me know
@yakapo9994 жыл бұрын
AveRage Joe New subscriber here. 2 amps! It’s pulling 100 watts at idle? If that’s right, I’m not going this route. There are 3,000 watt 48v inverters that pull .3 amps at idle.
@AveRage_Joe4 жыл бұрын
Yes it has a high idle draw for sure and YES a real inverter will have a much lower idle draw! I used the ups because it was free!
@Furiends7 жыл бұрын
For this UPS the time remaining is based on a battery capacity setting which you can change. Edit: which appears to be controlled with the "Connected battery packs" setting in powerchute. P.S. I think you should put the UPS above the batters and put a laptop rack holder up top so you can have a slide out laptop. :>
@AveRage_Joe7 жыл бұрын
+penguins forall Ok ya I just figured out that part. Thats not a bad Idea, slide out lapy topy. Hey did you day it would be easier with linux mint or possible beable to edit more in the ups? If so im switching over!!!

Also if i understand correctly PowerShute just runs on Linux on the "SmartSlot" using the serial internally which means it could in theory be your monitoring computer if you wanted to hack it and put your own Linux on it instead of using a laptop. That'd be kinda badass but probably should do that later.

So curious about your project. I had a apc smart 2200 and never used it. Thought it was too big for my needs but now use the apc 1500 24v for camping. I can do about 900w-950w depending on the load type. I'm buying a van to convert into a camper and would want to boil a kettle and toast broad, etc... so was thinking of now upgrading to this MONSTER 3000 RM XL you've got. I recon with the extra transistors it will handle more than 3000 (at a educated guess). Soo cool! Keep up the entertaining videos!

So how much power does this UPS use just to operate versus a regular inverter? Free is free when you got these but I'm just curious. Also, is the UPS software 'hard coded' with a specific battery tech in mind (for example, traditional lead acid batteries), so regardless of what you hook up to it, its numbers and charge cut-offs will always be off? Great vid, once again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYScdn6BmJWojMU
