Doordash has to make a minimum tip for a certain amount of miles from the restaurants. They’re killing their workers when you have a 2.50 tip for 14 miles. That’s insane that the app even allows that.

I think "peak pay" is not what it says it is. In my experience, "peak pay" means fewer than expected drivers have scheduled themselves, and "peak pay" is an incentive to get people to work. I rarely see peak pay during times that conventional wisdom says will be busy, but I do see it at times when conventional wisdom says will be slow. Too many Dashers are working when conventional wisdom says it'll be busy, and everyone goes home when they expect it won't be busy. And that's what's driving peak pay in my area. As for the data, I wonder what a Friday would look like if they grouped all of the restaurants in a power strip, and whether there would be more consistency when taken as a group. I suspect roughly the same number of people order DoorDash each week, but they don't always order the same food each week. This week they order Mexican. Next week they have pizza. The following week it's Chinese. And they try different restaurants as often as they order from old favorites. So if you look at a whole power strip as a unit, it may smooth-out those random fluctuations.

I also agree with you about peak pay. Peak pay only activates in my area during times when there are no drivers online. I see this happen a lot when it rains in my area. Drivers sign off and then peak pay turns on. Only other time I see peak pay is late night hours like 11:30 - 1:30 again when there are no drivers online. Also, hotspots on the map I believe are just low paying orders that no one wants to accept. since no one is accepting the order the app marks the restaurant as a hotspot to attract drivers to the store and try to get someone to accept the offer. I've seen this happen with Restaurants in my area that are never busy and never show on the map as a hotspot. But i'll get an offer for an order and it's a no tip order so i'll decline and then a minute or 2 later that restaurant is suddenly a hotspot.

@@vgmaster9 around here, 11:30pm-1:29am, and 1:30am-4:30am are usually the only times there's peak pay. Sometimes 9:30pm-11:29pm, too. And I'll bet that the drivers that do those shifts sit around a lot of the time, but without the peak pay, they might not have anyone, and they'll have to cancel any orders that come in.

Nailed it. It's only helpful if you were already scheduled. Otherwise, it's a gimmick to bring in others. Order count plummets for peak, and orders aren't much better.

Saturday, peek pay in my area is when no one wants to dash. I have 4 strips within 10 mile radius. Super busy,but.....the customer is always 5-10 miles away. Unfortunately I work in the suburbs where the "urban sprawl" is real and horse farms and super rich mansions are a plenty. So I will go out of my area on a regular basis and be sent to 3 or 4 different zones in a day.

When I park/wait near a group of restaurants I will get orders for a different area. lol Hot spots are a joke, in my area all it takes is a single order, and then it's becomes a hot spot (but not really) SO NEVER CHASE HOT SPOTS its a waste of gas and time.

Peak pay is always a lot in Irvine CA, yet it's a horrible market with wealthy people. Nobody drives there so I feel DD uses peak pay to get drivers to go to that area. My idea is DD uses peak pay for different reasons depending on the area.

Friday. Hands down. It's so nuts on Friday nights. Tuesday is the only day across the board in any market I've never done well. I've had ONE Tuesday dinner shift that went well in the entire time I've been dashing so I know it was a fluke. It's the only day I now avoid like the plague. If I work I will end up spending money to work it's that bad. I will say, though, that the off week where Friday isn't as good as it typically is, then Sunday all day will be poppin off.

I get a lot of orders any time I’m out . There’s no down time . But what’s so discouraging is this : $2.25 or $2.50 to go how many miles ? To pick you up your steak at that fancy steak house .. hmmm 🤔 And there’s a wait time of at least 20 minutes. I’ve had to decline the same offers 2 times . And even like $5.00 shop and pays when you know there’s gonna be issues with at least one item - every single time . Then usually you have to lug 32 bottles of water ( or other heavy or bulky items ) up three flights of stairs . After you find the apt , that is. It literally takes up most of an hour . For what - maybe a couple dollar profit .. this is what makes me want to shut off DD and just go home . I don’t expect every offer to be amazing and I don’t cherry pick because my offers aren’t anything to brag about . In my experience, People just don’t tip , or tip very little .

For me, (I do DD and UE at the same time) I find I make more money when I decline poor paying or low pay for high Mike orders. I average over $25 an hour but my acceptance rate is under 20%. It isn’t worth my time to drive 7 miles for $10. I’m generally looking for $1.50-$2 a mile when I delivery. 90% of the time, I hit my goal of $25 an hour at $1.75-$2 a mile. I also avoid fast food if I can. People tip better for orders at restaurants that you would normally tip at.

When I first started with DD I would reject anything under $4 if it was more than 3 km’s, DD suspended me on my first week for 2 weeks, & then re-instated my account. I’ve been accepting everything & all my stats are in the high 90’s~ I’m still getting disrespectfully cheap orders ranging anywhere from $4-7 on average. Every now & again I’ll get a $8-15 order, but those are so far & few

Let me correct you on what you're talking about today because when a store gets a lot of orders it doesn't work to our advantage because it comes up on the screen as a high pay low mileage but then you end up waiting 20 minutes to what happen hour at the restaurant because they don't have the help to fill the orders So don't let that busyness fool you It doesn't put more money in your pocket trust me

Shop and pay is the worst money for me. To many things go wrong. Red card doesn't work. Can't find the right barcode. Internet does not work in the store. The biggest one to watch out for now is a Lowes pick up. It was like 50 pieces of side board 14' long each. I have a truck and I could not have even fit it in the vehicle. I called support and said the order is to large for my vehicle.

i think a lot has to do with the days of the week and if there are any upcoming holidays that weekend or the following few days. like if there's a holiday on sunday often it'll be less busy than normal on friday and saturday, i think people could be saving their money to spend on the holiday. and the other big factor is the weather. i live in rochester ny and if it's especially rainy or if it's snowy or cold that's when people don't feel like going out or cooking and just want some comfort delivered to them. obviously the other factors you mentioned are important as well

Just go off personal experience. I know in my area Friday evenings Pizza Huts always will be slammed especially when it rains. They will be the best place to pick it from because they don't have enough of there own drivers to get your orders. Plus the base pay is higher

The downside is that the big chains will ship out the lousy orders: i.e., those that are far away and in crappy neighborhoods and where the customers don't tip. I used to deliver pizza and I knew which customers didn't tip.

Just about to sign up for doordash. One thing I do believe is that there are only a few sources for breakfast orders. Mostly, it seems to me, that would be the fast food outlets, like McDonalds, Burger King and the like. There is a strip of them 5 minutes from my house, so if I start the app just before I leave, I should have my first order before I get in my car. Then, I would sit on that strip till about 11 and begin to make my way toward one of the malls in my area with a large grouping of restaurants and pizzarias as the lunch time kicks in. After a delivery, I'd probably head to whatever mall was the closest to wait. Now, I also do Amazon Flex, so those deliveries might take me out of my zone, but they do usually pay more than Doordash, so I'd need to analyze on the fly whether to head back to a "hotspot" or my assigned Whole Foods market.

People that doordash need to stop taking orders that are not at least a $1 per mile. As contractors we set our rates and when you keep excepting low paying orders it Diminishers our pay! I don't know if its happening everywhere, but doordash has been cutting pay left and right and keeping part of the tips now. Have you noticed when you get a double up or multiple order it cuts your tips now, or receive an order and it says $6.50+. It no longer gives the exact tip amount and this is do to people taking crap orders. Be smart, Start declining these because it will keep circulating around until the prive has to be raised or not get delivered if everyone would quit excepting them they have to go back to what originally worked. You're not making money unless its at least $1 per mile. Cost of gas is up, wear and tear on your vehicles and everyday Inflation has risen. Just be smart.
