Make sure to keep track of everything that can be a deduction on your taxes, as most gig jobs will have you fill out a 1099. You can claim deductions for mileage, per diem, business expenses, and more!

Thanks for bringing this up I can see it's received a lot of attention. The only thing with taxes is I don't want to give you incorrect information as I'm not a tax professional or CPA . I'm an expert in what I know and don't pretend to be a tax expert, hope you guys understand. When it comes to taxes for the past 2 years I've done Turbo Tax self employed, they just ask you what 1099 income sources you have, you'll list gross revenue then corresponding mileage. They'll also ask if you want the standard mileage deduction or itemized deduction and you'll follow the respective prompts.

Important to consider this.

I would love to see a video that walks me and talks me through a full door dash after the fact... so record it in the moment, leave that hard to focus background music out, and talk me slowly through the process of an order coming in - what do you look at, what helps you to decide whether to take the order or not, what are the things you consider? Once you take the order, talk us through the details of how the app works from there. My first order took me forever to figure out how to do everything in a timely manner and I ended up getting tagged as not having delivered it on time, when in fact, I had delivered it at least 5-10 minutes early. Also, where do you put your purse? Some of the areas I deliver to are not the most trustworthy and full of character, integrity, and respect. I worry about my purse when I jump out to run a delivery up to a house. Things I found hard to figure out on my first day dash today: 1. How do I look at the screen and know whether it is worth my time and drive? 2. How do I know what the full amount of miles will be? 3. Once finished, do I drive back toward a hotspot to pick up another delivery or stay where I'm at? 4. Is there a way to tell where I'm being sent ahead of time? (I live in Indiana and it sent me across the border to a rough neighborhood in Illinois today. I grew up in a neighborhood like that and I know what goes on. I was not prepared and should never have been over there.) 5. How do you go into the app and send the customer a text? Are you doing this through the app or through your own text message? 6. I actually live in a rough and unsafe area... How do I drive to a safer area where I can work? Do I have to find the hotspot or can I just go to the area and then pick up orders from there? 7. What app or process do you use for tracking mileage, vehicle maintenance, etc? 8. I know I'm missing some things. For a type A - Highly sensitive personality and a total introvert (functional introvert but nonetheless...), I was a little overwhelmed with it all. I wish I could have had time to play in a "test" version to really learn my way around the app and figure out how to navigate it but because they don't offer that, I need a video that at least takes the time to show these things - and preferably, a previously recorded dash that has been gone back through and voiced over to explain everything...

I try so much to not take the low paying orders because it takes too much of my time,when I should concentrate on the bigger payouts as you have mentioned. And I took the part the part when you said that a Hotspot does not really give you something to deliver. I've tested it and that is so true. Where I live I have to figure in round trip miles, that is what really counts. I don't live in a sprawling metropolis like you. I live in Lees Summit MO. Let me give an example of orders I reject: say I get an offer of $13 for a 10 miles dash. I have to reject it. 10 miles takes me outside city limits. At this distance I never have another order in that area when I get there (OK, one time I did but it lead me even further away from my city). Let me show you the math for this. Round trip miles is 20 miles. At 60 mph that would take 20 minutes. But, I am not driving highways I am driving through town at 25 - 30 mph. At 30 mph 20 miles would take 40 minutes, now add in time at stop signs and stop lights, about 10 minutes. Now it is 50 - 60 minutes and a full gallon of gas at $2 a gallon. Now the math again: $13 -$2 = $11 for one hour of my time and 1 hour wear and tear on my car. This is a bad offer and Doordash does it all the time and penalizes me for not accepting them.

My Peak Pay yesterday night from 4-7:30pm was so bad that I didn't ger any order for 1and half hours. Then I just quit for the night and went home. It was frustrating to be scheduled for the peak pay and I drove 30 minutes to the peak pay area and then waited and waited. Then went to 3 hot spots and got no orders. Doordash app needs to be improved to that if there's too many drivers delivering for the night, they should just straight up tell you to go home. Sometimes its very disappointing on what Doordash do to people trying to make a decent pay.
@lover2ed1344 жыл бұрын
The secret is don't dash in peak pay areas. You have to be top dasher to do so because doordash gives them priority over everyone else. Instead dash in a zone with the smallest peak pay or none at all. Trust me it works because everyone and their momma is rushing to the peak pay areas leaving the other areas wide open with very little competition.

Don’t choose far areas. Set your own limits before you dash. What I do is set a limit for distance, and pay. Nothing under 5$ and nothing further than 13 miles. I will make 100-140 a day. The first days I would go far and take any order and would only make 60-70 a day
@bloopysnot4 жыл бұрын
I try to consider that even though an order is only 4-5, if I’m efficient and the customer takes notice on that, they will tip after you’re completed your order, turning that 4-5 dollar order into a 9-10 dollar order. The only thing about that is the risk you take for relying on the customer to tip. At the end of the day you’re doing what you signed up for.
@bloopysnot4 жыл бұрын
I’ve had orders with huge tips for orders less that 10 bucks, so I’d recommend taking these small orders only if it isn’t as busy as usual, and you’ll be surprised how generous and sweet people can be!
@YourDriverMike4 жыл бұрын
I hear you on the strategy, from my experience most customers on DD do not adjust their tips after the delivery has been completed. This is a stark difference to UE where most all customers add a delivery after the order has been dropped off. Hand off deliveries on DD may give you a higher chance to win a tip however.

Hey buddy, first time watching, tip, if your by or close to the restaurant, if you got a $11 7miles order, gotta factor in that if your driving 6 to 7 miles to house, that means you have to drive back to hot spots 6 or 7 miles, so really your making about 97 cents a mile 😥🤔🤔 , I most likely wouldn't take it. The problem I've come to recently is that I've had to contact customer service unassigned orders at times when I didn't get a chance to see how long the drive was because the app started glitching up and I didn't want to miss it. they tried to get me to drive from South lake Tahoe to Tacoma which is on a Friday night an hour each way 33 mi each way for $17 at a Safeway. Then I got another order for a 13 Mile drive for like $7 and I wasn't paying attention and could not assign it. I started watching some door dash videos videos and realize that cherry picking is probably the best method instead of accepting every order that comes through. after I started doing this I noticed that they started to give me a lot of three and four and five dollar orders literally seven to ten I've been a row and I have been putting me in pause mode every 30 seconds until I and my dash just to get me off of the platform and signed out. They've actually signed me out several times during dashes when I minimize the window.
@YourDriverMike4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Jonathan, tricky because I notice a few things there. Firstly of course make sure to pay attention to the order request screen so you don't accidentally accept sub par orders. Second as you continue to dash you'll pick up on market specific averages. What I mean is maybe a $8 payout is the highest it typically gets there, maybe $7. Regardless that dollars:mile is key. As far as the time outs also drive on other platforms if you don't already because maybe DD just isn't that strong in your market for drivers. I wouldn't lower my pay standards, I would continue to ignore low payouts which is good

@derpblerf70124 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree with the higher peak pay = less gross per hour/per shift. Live over in hawaii and if I see the 4.50 pay bump I generally wont go because it feels like the app offers more money per delivery to validate having an excess of drivers in a location that is assumed to be super busy on that day? So you will be sitting a lot more often, I usually see quite a few people hanging out in hotspots waiting during those bonuses. Usually I try a mix of hanging out for 10 mins and then driving through & around the outskirts. But I usually have a killer day around the 2-3 bump range
@YourDriverMike4 жыл бұрын
Exactly maybe they're over estimating demand levels and use the high peak pay to get drivers out but what just happens is over saturation. That's why it's so important to look at your numbers because the data tells the story!

Peak pay should not be counted in your picking a delivery. As in peak pay is $3 and you get one for $9 at 5 miles. That means your tip may be as low as $3-4 so not worth your time. Now $3 peak pay and the delivery is $12 at 5 miles is gravy. Tip may be at least $5-7 we go through a lot for low tips. Tips are how we make our money DD does not give great paying deliveries so we have to make sure the base pay, and tip is more or the same as our lowest acceptable pay without the peak pay. But if no orders are coming through $10 is $10. We all have our choices of what we take or don't take.
