Saw this at cinema in Manukau New Zealand, on weekday when it first came out. Had a bunch of hardcore Mongrel Mob guys in the audience. On exiting into a bright blue sky afternoon the guys were saying to each other things like "Where are we?", "Is this even real?". Surreal hearing a bunch of gangsters talking about having their minds blown.

Saw it in theaters when i was still in the NAVY. Game changer, redefining sci fi films. Like an Anime that became live action for the first time. Incredible story and plot. Its a perfect film. Honestly, for these people to be born after this film, you missed it, the great decades, you missed it all. 70s, 80s, and 90s, you fawking missed it. Saw it first weekend it came out and virtually no one had ever even heard of it. Went with a group and no one knew anything about it so we watched it and we’re blown away! There was no marketing for this movie…. Needless to say, a few weeks later, word of mouth got around and it blew up! A great memory of everyone’s delight afterward!

A guy came upto me when I was a University student in 1994 and said I had to go and watch a film called The Matrix. I asked him why, and he just said I needed to go and watch the film. I asked didn't bother as I thought he was being dramatic or pulling a prank. That was in Sept.1994, I remembered it clearly. The movie didn't come out til 1999! 5 years later! I remembered the guy and the strange conversation, so When I eventually went to see it, I understood why.🙏
