Thanks for the lesson on Santana. Cheers from Indonesia.

Great lesson. I sussed out the Dorian mode from listening to Santana 40 years ago as a self-taught guitar player. Em to Amaj, for example. (We didn't have KZbin videos back then.)

Me too 50 years self taught without memorising modes and scales but learning to slow everything Carlos plays down there's a lot more than these guys can show.the right hand is the key over 70% of the time for me.He plays phenomenal tricks.Without which you'll be outside of what he's creating.

He mentioned that he learned this distinctive phrasing of his guitar by trying to imitate Ms. Dionne Warwick's singing. Interesting

I can tell you that growing up and listening to my mother's music - mostly Dionne Warwick, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, etc. - has made me a better musician in a lot of ways. Even though I wanted to be a metal player, my forte seems to be a slower and more melodic style of playing and listening to a wide variety of great songcraft has made a huge difference. If only my ability to craft melodies didn't overshadow my limited guitar skills, lol.

This is really helpful. It’s nice to learn new things. I’ve listened to these licks since, er, 1978. But never figured how to play them

Just getting to the stage of understanding modes, this video just made something click! Dorian makes so much sense now! Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard "the lick" in lick 2. Which only shows I know more about memes than I do about guitar...either way, fun stuff! Great content, thanks!

Hi Jordan, sadly I don't know enough about pickups. However, I do have a college who suggests Bare Knuckle will do an amazing set of pickups for this style. You can call Bare Knuckle and they'll be happy to guide you!
