TBH, and I am a fucking gun nut, pepper spray shit DOES work a lot better against an animal like a bear than a firearm. Pepper spray is WORTHLESS against any dedicated human threat that knows pepper spray is just temporary pain, but an animal has no idea why its eyes are burning, and believes that it is being blinded. Any large predator knows it can kill anything, no problem, its instinct is to fear being BLINDED in the process. It has to fight with its face after all. This is why you can see something like a penguin stand up and fight its predator like a leopard seal effectively, and make it leave him alone. The prey animal knows that it doesn't have to win, it just has to convince the predator: "Fight me, and I'll take a fucking eye out of you". There's a lesson for people in that. Still, It's cute that people carry pepper spray for personal defense against humans though, when police in training get their face hosed with it and then have to run a combat obstacle course in cold blood....and almost no one fails ever.
