Let me see if I've got this correct...you 'pinned' a link to a tool set but couldn't be 'arsed' to use a tool set? Given this example...you're NOT gonna be my 'techguide' if this is how 'half assed' you 'guide' people. 5 yrs this video has existed, still online, still availible...still 'representing' YOU! And you're still 'active' on KZbin (you added 'pinned links' within the last year, so its not like you abandoned your account). Might be time to consider removing the video, REDOing it and representing yourself much BETTER. At least, if you want any hope of being someone's 'techguide'. After all, I wouldn't follow ANYONE that called themselves a 'guide' but only 'guided' me INTO the wilderness, but NOT back out of it!!!!!!!!!!!! This all might sound like nit picking...but I'm NOT the only one to make these observations. Great idea for a video, but INCOMPLETE; and the exclusions/errors UNDO the purpose, IMHO. IF YOU READ BEYOND THIS POINT, NO WHINING ABOUT A 'RANT'!!!!!!! You made your choice. There are SO many errors in this video and exclusions. 1. Common (or flat head) jeweler's screwdriver (or precision screwdriver) NOT 'flat phillips screwdriver'. Phillips is a type of screwdriver HEAD, it is NOT the name of a group of drivers (unless Phillips makes them, but even then they're not called 'phillips screwdrivers'. IE Common (flat head), Cross (Phillips), Square (Roberson), Hex (Allen), Star (Torx). But they're all screwdrivers...a Phillips head screwdriver isn't reffered to as a 'Phillips Phillips screwdriver' 2. You're using a forcep (also known as a type of hemostat) not a pair of needle nose pliers (but you COULD use needle nose pliers). 3. There are FOUR arrows in the section of links you showed (alreadry removed from the band)(not that this really matters, had it been the ONLY error...but it speaks to the sheer number of errors) 4. 'Walking' the FLAT head jewelers driver, as you did, can scratch the links (where as, had you USED the 'tool kit' you linked to, you would have 'driven' the pin out without marking the links. 5. You failed to reattached the links so the band is wearable. By this video, one is left with a band that is still in PARTS and can't be worn. "I'm going to show you how to easily change a tire on your car....by ONLY showing you how to take the tire OFF, you'll have to work out putting it back on, yourself." (you failed to show how to reattach ANYTHING, properly...you didn't even show to reattach the LINKS back together and REATTACHING is just as important) 6. This video is not about 'how to adjust' a watch braclet, its about how to ONLY remove a link. You didn't even mention the 'micro-adjustment' holes of the clasp (that may allow a user to NOT even have to take a link out to start with).

Great work! Two tricks to share after doing this the first time... (1) A simple fingernail clipper can pull the pin out with much less exposed pin than needle-nose pliers. (2) If replacing an existing watch, count the number of "arrow" links to know how many to remove from the new watch (I had a "duh" moment when I was done an realized this).

Watched your video three times to make sure I had everything, then removed 1 link from my new Seiko Men's SKS421, and it all worked just as you demonstrated in your video. Had a heart-stopping moment when the hinge pin popped out of the hinge and launched into the air like a rocket ... but I was able to find it on the floor, and after that I was more careful with it. Other than that, no dramas. Thanks for the video -- it saved me $10 or more at the jeweler's, and now my watch fits perfectly.

My Seiko watch came in the mail today, and I couldn't figure it out. I googled for help and your videos popped up. I watched them both; the second was the most useful. Thanks to you I was able to take out some links and was able to wear my watch tonight rather than take it to a store and pay for adjustment tomorrow.

I went to the shop and adjust my watch yesterday, but when I wear it today, I realized that my Seiko 5 band is one chain big and the watch slide up and down my wrist. So, when i got home, I tried to go to the shop but the shop is already closed. I have to wait till tomorrow to wear my watch again but I really don't want to. So, when searching through the internet I found this video. I watch the video and took out the extra chain by myself. Now, I can wear my brand new Seiko 5 tomorrow to school and I now know how to adjust the band myself. Thanks man.

Your video was helpful in showing how the Seiko pins worked and slid out. Using a flat head screw driver didn't work for me for removing the pins. What worked was using a simple thumbtack. I would hold the watch perpendicular (arrows up) to a flat surface. I would then place the point of a thumbtack in the groove you show in the video. Then holding the watchband on each side of the link (pin) you want to remove I firmly press the flat top of the thumbtack onto the table.

Flat screw driver didn't work for me either because I didn't really have a slot to fit it in. So I finally just pushed directly on the bump on the link and pushed the link out. BTW, if you just need to shorten the band a little, you can move the spring loaded pin on the part of the clasp labeled SEIKO one or two holes. Do this on the pin holding the chain and not the pin holding the folding clasp. If you do this on the pin holding the folding clasp, you won't be able to close the band.

Thanks for the video...now I know how to remove the links in a Casio watch. Btw, that is a flat head screwdriver...the phillips is different....like how I describe it to my kids...there's a "cross" at the tip when Im asking them for a phillip screwdriver.
@jeffreyhess5013
@jeffreyhess5013 5 жыл бұрын
It's NOT a flat head screwdriver. It's a flat blade screwdriver. Flat head screws can also be phillips headed.
@jackhazz5777
@jackhazz5777 5 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreyhess5013 nope. We are talking about screwdrivers...not screws. I get the screws can have a phillips, torx, etc. And that you refer to the geometrical shape the screw is shaped. But flathead screwdrivers, wrong as it may, is now universally acceptable as what you refer to as flat blade screwDRIVER. And since we are talking about that particular screwDRIVER in this video, philips screwdriver is out of the question...in this video at least.
@jeffreyhess5013
@jeffreyhess5013 5 жыл бұрын
@@jackhazz5777 I agree that in this video, reference to a Phillips head screwdriver was incorrect. However I disagree that just because something is universally accepted, as you've stated, it is right. I could come up with many examples (abortion being a big one at the moment). The term flat head screwdriver (a screwdriver doesn't even have a head) is incorrect whether it's universally accepted as correct or not. We may just have to agree to disagree on that.
@tonymanero2147

Thanks for posting. My Seiko steel band is slightly different than the band you have in the video. Maybe its because my watch doesn't have a USA warranty, and thus it's gray market (not authorized for sale in the US). With your band, you are applying upward force to the link joint by twisting the micro-screw driver. My band has full circles (holes) over the link connector head; they block using micro-screw driver from UNDER the links. Instead, I had to use a 3/64 (a 5/64 is too big) in the "holes", and like you, twist left-right to apply upward force to move the connector up. After getting started, I then angle-pushed to get more of the connector head out before using a needle nose pliers. It also helps if you avoid pulling on adjacent links (side-to-side, because the connectors may not move out under that pressure). In my experience, I found one was easy to get out, and another took a lot longer.

You saved me having to take the new watch my mother received as a gift from her place of work at retirement, even if you did call the small flat screw driver a Phillips, I see in the good quality video it was a straight or flat screw driver, so it’s all good , thanks a ton my friend! Oh, one thing maybe mention that first pin removed is sort of spring loaded, I’ve had those shoot away when removing them because I was not being careful enough. I already knew that part , but someone never doing anything like that to a watch band might end up learning it the hard way as I did the first time I worked on a watch band. It’s so easy to forget little details like that , I do the same thing more and more, in my case it’s just old age I guess, lol. But thank you very much for the video as I have never seen a band like these seiko bands are made, I would have never figured how to remove those links

My Seiko 5 has a different style of band and due to the hole being significantly smaller it's not possible to use a screwdriver to take the link out. I've found that a corkscrew works brilliantly tough, so much so that once the link has popped out you only need your fingers to remove it. So if you're having any problems I recommend using a corkscrew.

@David Armstrong Because English is a foreign language for him. Just because he speaks English in this video does not mean he lives in a country where English is spoken. Phillips is not the name everywhere. In German, for example, (substituting English words as appropriate) its a "cross-slot-screw-turner" How did he get it wrong? Simple mistake. Someone probably showed him a Philips screwdriver from a set of so-called "jeweler's screwdrivers" and he mistook the "Phillips" part for the tiny screwdriver part. Unless you have someone there to correct you, it would be easy to think that all the small screwdrivers in the set were "Phillips." After all, the name of those small screwdrivers in the set is a bit silly. All the tips in a typical hardware store "jeweler's screwdriver" set are far too large for actually working on jewelry. Bui I have the same question for you. How can you not know the difference between "Slot" and "slot"? I think everyone learns in about the third grade the difference between a proper and common noun -- that thinks like family names are capitalized, but ordinary things are not. Yet you managed to show your English "wisdom" with a mistake an 8 year old should not make. Impressive.

You really should have shown how to reattach the watch itself. I removed the pin at the beginning and now I can't get it back on. I think I may have lost the spring so now I'm screwed.

You re-attach the bracelet by hooking it onto the exposed bar. You will see a gap of about 5mm between the links. Join them together and push the pin in with your fingers.

On mine, the latch has a series of very small holes on each side. Three on one end and one on the other. The pin you removed goes through the larger hole in the link closest to the latch to start with. Then one end of the pin you'll seat into a hole on one side and then you compress the spring on the other end of the pin until you can slide the compressed pin in between the two sides of the clasp and slide it into the hole opposite the one that you put the other end of the pin in. To do the compression you can use your finger nail or a dental pick.

Thanks, that made it easy. Didn't need pliers, easily pulled out with fingers. Also did it without "flattening the band by removing the pin in step 1". So for me it was a tiny screwdriver only procedure.

Guys, I was gonna do this and take off the links however I found that on my watch I could just change the hole the initial screw was in instead of removing some links. Great video tho.
