Thank you kindly. This would definitely be a killer setup. As we get older, the high frequencies in our hearing begin to diminish. Klipsch provides very detailed top end, which can definitely help. Typically on the rear of your sub, you will see a phase knob or switch. Sometimes it’s a toggle switch to choose 0 degrees or 180 degrees. Others have a variable knob that allows you to choose anywhere between 0 and 180 degrees.

Thanks Youthman, I just subscribed! I just had my old Sony STR-KS2300 blow up on me and I've been doing exhaustive research for three days straight. I ordered a Pioneer VSX935 receiver ($422) and a Klipsch R-120SWi Subwoofer ($250). I'm planning on setting up a 5.1.2 Atmos setup using the old Sony speakers with two old Pioneers as my height speakers temporarily. If you can comment on any mistakes it would be appreciated. Your video was the most comprehensive video I've watched in the last three days, and with me being an audio/video newbie I just wanted to thank you.

Hi Dean, what speakers are you using? If I had to guess the reason you were needing to go into the positive is because your speakers have a low sensitivity rating which means they take more power (thus why the AVR is pushing into the positive).

Or more than 200?

The more clean power the better. I would have no problem driving a 100 watt or 150 watt rated speaker with a 200 wpc amp. You’ll likely never get close to using all 200 watts but it’s great to have on reserve when you need the additional horsepower.

Youthman - Thanks for your videos on Klipsch speakers. I am currently looking for a 5.1 system in my living room (25' x 15' x 18'). Considering the following options (primarily for HT): a. Klipsch RP 8000 ii; Klipsch 504C ii; Klipsch RP 500 ii (as rear/ surrounds) b. Klipsch RF 7 iii; Klipsch RC 64 iii; Klipsch RP 500 ii (as rear/ surrounds). I would pair it with an Outlaw LFM 1EX sub. Currently own Ascends (CMTs + CBMs, same sub), which I wiull be moving to the media space in basement. Would like to know your thoughts on the options.

The reference premier system offers a lot of bang for your buck. The RF7 III is a significant improvement due to the 1.75” compression driver, massive dial 10” woofers and you step up to real wood veneer.

Got it. I don’t play at loud volumes. Would there be a discernible difference in performance for lower to moderate volumes, especially considering the price difference?

If using dolby enabled speakers, like you are using, so 5.1.4, the surrounds speakers should be 90 to 110 degrees, and not the 110 to 120 degrees like you stated, as this only applies for a regular 5.1. That means that you correctly positioned the surrounds in a 90 degree angle as the Dolby guidelines indicate. See page 30 of the guidelines.
@Youthman
@Youthman 7 ай бұрын
You’re absolutely correct those are the guidelines for a 5.1.4 set up. But if I had placed the speakers where Dolby recommends, they would have blocked the walkway behind the couch and the entrance to my outdoor living area. That just was not an option. Every room has limitations and we have to do the best within those limitations. Even my dedicated theater room has limitations and is not a perfect setup. But man it sure brings a massive smile to my face every time I use it.

I know you're a Klipsch person, but what do you think about Polk audio?
@Youthman

My first home theater was Polk. Klipsch tend to be brighter, more detailed and forward sounding (which my ears prefer) but I thoroughly enjoyed the new Polk Reserve series. Search my channel for that video.

The only reason I’m asking is because I currently have a Bose acoustic mass system and I am trying to upgrade my system. I’m either going for Klipsch or Polk audio.

If your speakers are self powered, you will need pre-outs from your AVR. if you attempt to use the speaker output which your powered going into a powered speaker, you’re going to run into issues

Nice informative video! I purchased a Klipsch Synergy 7.1 surround sound system for my living room back in 2010. I wish I could upgrade, but after retirement and living only on social security it would be hard for me to upgrade. But my system still sounds as good as the day of purchase and I'm satisfied with the system. My speaker system is connected to a Yamaha 7.2 A/V receiver. I have my TV connected along with my two Tascam CD/Recorders, Music Hall turntable, Pioneer RT-1020L reel to reel tape deck, and my computer desktop. By the way, my living room is 12' by 21'. My sub is the Klipsch SW-450 downfiring sub.

Just curious as to why a standard size living room would need TWO LFE's.
@Youthman
@Youthman 23 күн бұрын
There’s only one LFE channel. Some AVR’s have 2 or 4 independent Sub Outputs so the AVR can time align them and level match them independently.

I agree. Upfiring Atmos should be your last resort. On-ceiling, in-ceiling or wall mounted height speakers would be a better option. I did not have that option in my living room.
