@@HomeTheaterHobbyist HI, I just wanted to ask approximate cost of your home theater sound set up including basically the speakers, sub, and the receiver. Just an idea of close guess on total cost? Or guesstimate on total cost of the previous speakers vs the new one
@jamegumb72987 ай бұрын
@@biggesttboss I went cheap as possible. So I built my own speakers. I made 27 liter closed box SB Acoustics 8 inch fullrange drivers (7 for 5.1.2, at €56 per driver not including MDF, banana plugs, padding, paint, glue, etc). I love the sound. Capacitor tuning only, no filter or BSC. I recently calculated a nice closed box for 12 inch fullrange, the Fane Sovereign 12-250TC, and built 1 test box. I may build 3 for the LCR. I went as small as possible, with 47 liter, but ideally we are talking 75-90 liter. But you will need to correct them at such a small volume. Either of these on a nice 5.1.2 will do golden as a start, or in my case as end station, single drivers have a lot of pros and a few cons, the pros for me outweigh the cons by enough to not go anywhere different. I personally find these have no real need for a sub but you can if you want to of course. Klan+Ton has a recent issue with a 4 smaller driver one, but ifa big boomy rumbler is for over accurate and fast, dont go there and get a big huge single drivers instead. I have one with plate amp built into a sewer pipe (most rigid I could find) and it goes nice and low. I have a Denon AVR-S760H myself, up from a Denon AVR-1513. Both were ~€500. There is no absolute need to go super highend, but if you do want that, I'd personally not go for a super expensive receiver but a prepro and 1U amps, something like Crown. But that will cost you, obviously.

I had Klipsch reference premiere 5.2 for 5 years. It was a great system, but I really want true 3 way speakers and soft some tweeters to reduce ear fatigue and better off axis response. I ended up going with a 5.2 monolith setup and the difference to me was much improved. I did need a 5 channel amp to get the dynamic range. The vocals are less muddy and cleaner, off axis response is significantly improved and ear fatigue is gone.

Hey bro, I have a similar setup, I'm running the Klipsch RP 8000f, RP 404c center channel, RP 502s for surrounds, 4 RP 500sa for Atmos and the SPL 150 Sub. I bought the whole setup in January of 22 and the sub stop working a couple weeks ago and I've since taken back to audio advice to have a look at it. That said, now that the LFE are being routed to the tower's I have a new love for these speakers. I'm amazed at the way they sound, the bass that's coming out of these has got me wondering if I even need a sub at all. But I just pulled the trigger on the SVS pb 3000 and it'll be delivered tomorrow. I guess I said all that to say I'm with you bro with the Klipsch.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Жыл бұрын

Hey Cody, just wanted to reach out to you about PB 3000. I'm sure that they are definitely an upgrade from the SPL 150. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the Klipsch subwoofer but I think that I get a little more from the SVS. I haven't gotten my Klipsch subwoofer back yet. I reached out to audio advice last month and they said that they were waiting on Klipsch to send a replacement amp and that it's still under warranty, no $$. When I was reading Klipsch warranty statement and it said that when their product is in for warranty issues and they can't repair or no longer carry said product, then they will replace the product with a equal or higher quality/value of the same product. That said,they just came out with the new RP line of subwoofers and I'm hoping (fingers crossed) for the new 16inch but will take the 14inch. Now I'm excited to add this with the PB 3000 to see how they play together but if they do repair the one I sent back I'm still hooking it because I just want to see what two subs sound like in my room. As I write this I'm watching Godzilla vs Kong 2021 and the 3000s rock's. If I do get a new Klipsch subwoofer I'll let you know how that turns out. Thanks for video that dropped today as well and keep up the good work.

Wow beautiful speakers! I started with Sony HTIB then upgraded to Def Tech satellites. Got a part time doing installs just to learn more about custom home theaters. I had heard some incredible systems (that I couldn’t possibly afford) and just had to upgrade eventually. Somewhere along the line I ended up with PSB (they sound great with music, theater not so much) then it was Monitor Audio Silvers. However, once I heard THX certified speakers I knew that was it. I realize that a lot of people have a negative opinion about THX as a brand. I blame Monster for that because they slapped the label on everything and THX went along with it ($$$) of course. I was able to pick up a full set of M&K 5000 which was the first THX set and was absolutely floored. The realism, dynamics and seamlessness were second to none. Unfortunately, they are a bit power hungry so they are in storage. I was later introduced to Atlantic Technology and found a complete 370 set for $500. Grabbed em and never looked back. Say what you want about the marketing/branding of THX, but I can say with confidence that I have yet to hear anything better for a dedicated home theater. Sorry for the long winded post! Enjoy the new speakers and enjoy the holidays!! 🤙🏻

Don't buy the first set of speakers you think sounds good. Do your research and save your money until you can get a good set. If not you will always be searching for that "good sound"...💲. Congrats and welcome to the Arendal family! I went with Arendal back in July 2022 (replacing my old Pioneer Andrew Jones set). Currently have the 1961 towers with monitors for surrounds and did opt for the 1723 S center. In my room, I found the 1723 S also paired really well with the 1961 towers as far as seamlessly transitioning and did test out one of the 1961 monitors as a "center" and found that I was glad to have gone with the bigger 1723 S. They make some great speakers though and like yourself like the neutrality and their ability to use more power. I'm actually waiting on a purchase to provide the front stage with some more wattage. Will you be applying for their Ambassador program? (I joined that as well). Congrats again!

I have the 2016 reference from Klipsch and I still love them for movies! Looking to pick up the Heresy 3s for 2 ch. Soon! Idk if it's my hearing or my reciever or what but I never noticed any brightness. I've heard that enough that there must be something to it though.

It’s bright compared to other speakers but I don’t find it harsh which some folks complain about.

I had the Bose 201s and then the Bose 301 V's. They had good midbass with the 8 inch paper cone but the rear tweeter was a challenge.

I never heard the 301s. I still have the 201s they are in the attic and I haven't used them in years. I don't know how the drivers have held up to the extreme temps.🤷🏾♂️

Hi Jeff!! If you like the Klipsch sound I think the JBL HDI line is a great step up. It’s a more refined horn speaker. Reviewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYXbn3VnbqilqqM

Great speakers 👍🏻 I‘m building my home theater in some months and will use 3 RF7 II for LCR and wonder if i go for rs62ii or these arendal 1723 surrounds… any thoughts about it? Not sure what will work better for 2 rows - maybe add 4 side surrounds for each row 2…
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Жыл бұрын
I would stick with the klipsch brand for the sides and rears if you’re doing those upfront. That way you have a nice tonal match. Having an extra set of surrounds for the 2nd/3rd row is not a bad idea but I would go for rears if possible before adding an additional set of surrounds speakers.

I might have missed it but what are you powering these with and are you running them all in small or large?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Жыл бұрын
Great questions, I didn’t talk about either but I probably should have! 😂😂 I’m using my Monoprice Monolith 7 channel amp for power (up to 200 watts per channel) and Denon AVR X 4400h as the processor. They are typically set to small (crossover is either 60 or 80 Hz, I can’t remember which at the moment). I choose small because I mainly watch movies and let the subs do their job. But I do set them at large for music testing and comparison purposes.

I have been looking to upgrade my Def. Tech 8015. Thanks for your review on the Arendal Sound. I would like to know what AVR or Amp you are driving them with. I know my Marantz 5014 is a 8 ohm and Arendal are a 4 ohm. So it would be nice to see a review system when driving your new speakers.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Жыл бұрын
Good question, I'm using my Denon AVR-X4400h as my surround processor and Monoprice Monolith 7 Channel amplifier for amplification. The monolith outputs up to 300 watts per channel (4ohms, all channels driven), 200 watts per channel (8ohms all channels driven). It handles all my floor level speakers. In general a lot of receivers can drive 4 ohms speakers even if they are 6 or 8 ohm receivers, one reason is because speakers don't stay at 4 ohms all the time. One piece of advice though, as an owner if you have 4ohms speakers with a 6 or 8 ohm receiver, try not to run them at really loud volumes, that could trigger the circuit protection in the receiver and shut it down. Hopefully this helps. 😁

Hi Cody - Where did the Def Tech speakers fall in your line up? Thank you for the great reviews and content.

Great question! The BP9000s are 5th or 6th on the list. My only concern is: people have mentioned having issues with the built in amps. The setup I had was for review only and I sent them back so I have no idea on long term use.

Nice upgrade. The speakers look nice too! Have you reviewed the Monolith THX speakers? I’ve got the 465 & 365 (also Ultra certified) and would love to hear a comparison. I’d expect the Arendals to be overall better, but would it be worth it to upgrade???

let me tell you about the klipsch speakers. i have rp-280f and i love them, then i bought rp-8000f and thought they would sound better because it's newer model! i was wrong! the rp-8000f are muddy compared to the rp-280f. then someone was selling rf-3 ii for really cheap so i bought them. the rf3 ii sound better then both rp's belive it or not. i sold the rp-8000f and was planning on selling the rp-280f, but i removed the crossovers from the rf-3 ii and installed them in the rp-280f!! omg the sound is soooo much better now and will not sell them for any price. klipsch messed up with the new crossovers on new models.

Upgraditis never ends btw. A few years down the road, something new will come along you "just gotta have." But also, "Upgrade" doesn't always mean going neutral unless monitoring/mixing. Regular theaters use horns which can be considered bright, but for movies they sound more realistic and have more real impact than other types of speakers. They sound cleaner at a lower volume too. But I digress. Listeners usually like forward or laid back. One or the other. "Neutral" usually is rolled off or laid back vs realistic. Low efficiency speakers in a home theater don't do it for me. But then again, I don't use Av receivers. AVR ratings are fake in my book. "XXX" watts, but only measured at 1khz, not 20hz-20khz both channels driven. That's why an expensive AVR couldn't drive my ATC or ribbon speakers to save it's life.

This was the perfect video for me. I have a full Klipsch RP bed layer consisting of 8000F x2, 504C and 4x 600M. I’ve been on the fence on upgrading or if there’s even a point because these RP sound pretty decent for me. I was even wondering if my Monolith 24” stands could even comfortably fit the 1973S Monitors on it and there they are in your video. I just want to be done with this. I want to primarily consume content, not fiddle with Audio upgrades. I’m just missing something with the RP speakers primarily because my room is so huge. It’s also be nice to actually get to use my amplifiers. I’m eyeing just buying 7 1973S Monitors. Outside adding 4x 1961 Heights for Atmos whenever I care to. I don’t think there’s any system that can bolt 4x 1973S Monitors as Atmos to my ceiling safely so I’ll make due with the 1961 line for heights. Figure selling the Klipsch RP speakers will ease the upgrade sting a bit. Thanks again, I was lucky that there was a reviewer that had the same type of speakers AND the same speaker stands I did. And still hear that you love the Arendals even though you loved the Klipsch RP you had before.

id be interested to see how a 7.1ch/5.1 surround system would compare against a really really high end stereo pairing/2.1 of similar cost. I have some synergy horns and the dolby/thx object based audio demos for me at least produces as much spatial awareness as a 7.1 with less than half as many speakers and complexity. 7.1 only works because of software otherwise interactions between the speakers and hi's cancell each other out anyways. 2.1 now has the software to create sounds from behind/right/left seamlessly. some times, justt some times, less is more. The question is , 2 speakers that are good at absolutely everything including hi end music recordings, or 7 speakers that are good at 1 job, movie reproduction only... Would love to hear your opinion! and maybe im biased toward music here hahahaha, but still maybe a worthwhile comparison.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Жыл бұрын
This is a great question! I'm not sure how much you'll trust the thoughts of someone whose a multi-channel enthusiast. 😁😁😁😁 But here are my thoughts: A 2 channel setup can work very well yielding a nice surround experience (minus rears) and even height in movies. The real key is setup. If the speakers are setup correctly and you're sitting in the sweet spot it's a very convincing experience. If you move out of the sweet spot things drop off pretty quickly and that's where multi-channel ups the game. When multiple speakers are setup properly they yield a wider sweet spot so more people can enjoy. It also makes movie effects pinpoint accurate (surround and height) with the latest object based formats. I talk a little about that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIu1ea2VgdqLitU. One area where 2 channel will definitely struggle compared to a 7.1 system is rear surround because 2 speakers just can't reproduce a sound coming from behind you unless the sound is able to bounce off the rear wall at the right time. Hopefully this multi-channel guy said something moderately interesting. 😂😂
