I have the big 1723 towers for my fronts. Love them so much, I ordered the smaller 1723 towers for my rears. They arrive tomorrow. THX ultra rating is legit. The build quality of the cabinets is very high. I've seen photos of the crossovers and they look stout. And I have no doubt the drivers are high quality, because the sound is super sweet. Lot of sparkle in the high end.

Thanks for the video. I had the 1723S towers and I upgraded to the 1723 towers. Much bigger and heavier. 111 lbs. each. They are built like tanks. The grills are excellent too. I listen with the grills on and they really protect the elements which is important in my room. Wider soundstage, great dynamics and even higher SPL. I have in the black satin. I have in a 2.2 channel Music only setup and they are the best sounding towers and also beat the bookshelves I auditioned. The bass was fine but I tried one sub and then two and I was hooked. Once you hear a sub you can’t unhear it. Highly recommend Arendal whichever model you choose.

I always prefer using at least one sub, even in a 2ch setup but I needed to hear what they could do on their own.

How big is your room? We only have room for the S Monitors, but will try to add at least one sub!

My setup is in a bump out about 10X12 that opens into a larger Room that is 12X24. You should be fine with the S monitors. You can always buy and return for free up to 60 days in the US, and then try the larger 1723 if you’re looking for more.

Great video Michael. I’m very anxious to hear how they compare to your Martin Logan 200s. As I’m in the market for a new set of towers and I’m considering the 200s. What are your thoughts on this?

Bought a couple thx monitor s for my spacious living room home theater, and I gotta be honest, they get plenty loud and low. It does strain a bit at really high volumes but It fills the room quite well. Not a huge bass head, so I found the low end satisfying enough. How do you think the towers compare to the monitors?

Great overview thx to that. I am really interested in the comparison with the Martin Logans and then the SVS Titans. I guess the 1723 at a 60 Hz Crossover in Home Theater without high volumes is a bit to much with that weight.

I decided to pass on the large set after watching Joe from JoeNTell, his review pointed out that for so many 8 inch woofers, the BASS was meh.

I went with the 1723 Tower S THX and the regular 1723 THX center. Paired with 3 subs, it's almost too much bass. I don't regret going with the smaller size Tower S speakers. It's plenty of bass.

So, when you do these types of videos, I always find them fascinating or intriguing. So, I thank you for that. That said, would you put these types of speakers up to say.... B&W Diamonds? Even for theater listening or is simply put that there are speakers such as the example I gave that are in fact just "better" than even these? Thanks

Why don't you do a review on why most TOWER SPEAKERS don't hit 105 db's reference levels. Without compression and high distortion. Do we have to purchase THX CERTIFIED Speakers only?
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 ай бұрын
I’ve only done compression testing with subs. Might be interesting to measure some towers too.

I was at MWAVE and saw you in passing but didn’t want to interrupt you cause you looked busy.. I was a lottle disappointed in the sound the new SVS speakers had. They just didn’t seem energetic to me. Maybe they were underpowered. But I was very very impressed with the focal kanta 2. I love that sound but I think it would be too expensive to get those and along with the center. So I have been looking at these Arendal 1723 seriously. Are they a substantial upgrade from the Klipsch rf7iiis?
@Youthman

Oh man, I wish you would have grabbed me. At times, I was extremely busy fixing problems and making sure everything was smooth for attendees and vendors, but I certainly would have loved to have said hi. I was at the registration table doing meet and greets on Friday night and Saturday morning. SVS was one of the many rooms I did not get the opportunity to visit. If I had to guess, it wasn't that they were under powered, it was that the room overpowered them. That's a MASSIVE space to fill. I didn't get a chance to do any direct A/B between the RF7 III and Arendal 1723's. Klipsch will definitely be a bit brighter. Both should be similar in bass response.

@@Youthman it’s all good! I had my 7 year old boy with me so I was doing a little entertaining with him. He seemed to enjoy it but 5 hours was a lot for him to sit through haha. I’ll catch you next year for sure. I live in KC so I will be back. You are right. Those rooms were huuge for any speakers to have to fill. Currently I have Arendal 1723, svs or jtr noesis that I will upgrade to. I guess it will come down to budget.

I have the large 1723 towers and they are amazing for both music and movies! I just want to mention - if you haven’t given them the 50 hour break in period they aren’t going to sound anywhere near their potential. At first listen, I felt that the bass was a huge let down, but after I let them break in…the beast was unleashed!
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 ай бұрын
That’s awesome! I don’t subscribe to the massive break in period for speakers and subs. At most you need a few minutes of use for them to listen up. There is research that backs this up - www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/do-audio-speakers-break-in.11898/

I think the surround and spiders wil become more flexibel over time, and the speaker wil have more detail in the sound. Spl curves says not how it sounds only output.
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 ай бұрын
That would make for a fun blind A/B comparison. A speaker with no break in vs a speaker with 100 hours of break in. I’m pretty confident it wouldn’t prove to sound any different.

I’m learning just how much bias we have. Our brains can often tell us we hear things that may or may not be true. We see it with things like power cables and speaker wire. 🤷‍♂️

How do you move the heavy 1723 around? Can you do it without any help or special equipments on the wood floor since it is over 100 lbs?
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I unboxed and moved them into position by myself. My theater room has carpet. If you have hardwood, I would recommend placing a blanket or towel on the floor during the unboxing. Once you put the rubber feet on, you are good. Simply lean the speaker on the rear two feet and "walk" the speaker to the location you want them.
@megadumpage
@megadumpage 2 ай бұрын
You can use the spikes on hardwood too. They come with little discs the spikes rest on. The speakers slide nicely. I did it myself, but you need patience and the foam from the box to be your assistant.

When you were comparing the different floors with tactile bass, are you talking about the finished surface of the floors? Or did you mean the subfloor construction? Because if your whole house is on a slab, your not gonna feel tactile bass on through the floor regardless of what kind of flooring material you have (carpet, tile, hardwood). If your house is on a raised foundation where your floors are on joists and plywood sub-flooring then you’re gonna feel that tactile response. My 120 year old house makes my single PB-1000 Pro feel so much bigger and powerful than it really is because it doesn’t even have a subfloor, just the old original hardwood boards! It the whole room lol.
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I didn’t explain that well. I was referring to the concrete that’s under my carpet. I do feel massive tactile response with my dual JTR Captivator RS2’s. Every time I have a guest over, they always ask if I have butt kickers. In my living room I have laminate on top of concrete and with speakers only, I get quite a lot of tactile response. So even having the laminate on top of concrete is better than carpet on top of concrete.
@jaysson1151
@jaysson1151 3 ай бұрын
@@Youthman true true. Carpet is pretty much like acoustic panels for your floor. Lol I can’t imagine what a Captivator would do in my house. Cuz even a truck driving down the street makes my wife’s China cabinet rattle a little. I have my whole dream house and theater room designed on my computer. Since we have to have raised foundations here in southern Louisiana, the joists and subfloor will add a lot to the tactile response.
@Youthman

Keep in mind carpet is not going to do anything for low frequencies. It would only target mid range and high frequencies.
