Ironically, a simple stamped steel rim would have more resistance.
@Flamingtac08 күн бұрын
@jmakc3541 Their claims don't match reality. That's 100% cast aluminum. If they heat it after casting and stamp it, they might be able to get away with using the term 'forged', but that process doesn't offer anything close to the strength of spin forging. Cast aluminum isn't untenable for this application, but they are going to be damn heavy to be capable of handling the load. If these were 15" wheels like we had in the early 90's, the story would be different. These wheels have a 33% larger diameter, and that needs to be taken into account along with the weight, AND the increase in sideload torque due to the larger diameter.

I had a 2002 Ranger and the trim level only offered steelies. I did a lot of homework to find forged aluminum which did not look stupid and had the correct geometry for the truck. Getting true forged wheels turned out to be an expensive proposition. It would not surprise me if Tesla cut corners. Maybe Tesla is even cocky enough to cast their own wheels … and we’ve seen issues with Cybertruck castings.

Its really not a truck, looks more like a glorified Ranchero or El Camino, with extended cab. I enjoyed my 72 Ranchero. Looks more like Buck Roger's futuristic vehicle and Elons Starship both futuristic, if it was built in the1950's. From the look of it might last as long as the series did, one year Cyber Truck and Starship are still in beta testing from the looks of it. This Truck totally looks like Elons influence and not engineers with years of experience building trucks. He should have left Tesla in the Hands of Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning who were the original engineers who founded Tesla Motors. Although it does takes a good salesman too sell people on a concept, still in Beta testing as a superior quality vehicle. It seems Elons best at selling his Companies image. Which is why he's really good at it.

@wtmayhew10 күн бұрын
I worked as a volunteer in a museum restoration shop. They had a Delorean DMC-12. It wasn’t a horrible car, the stainless was 302 over composite, which is better than a Cybertruck. The DMC-12 was pretty heavy because of the two layer panels and the stock engine was a bit undersized for spirited driving. The DMC-12 in the collection had some fitment issues, but not as visually obvious as Cybertruck pictures I have seen. The DMC-12 gull wing doors are also very heavy and require a pretty good shove to raise. The Cybertruck doesn’t have super secret rocket steel like Musk implies. The Cybertruck steel is similar to the 302 of the DMC-12 but appears to be thicker and not backed by a layer to support it. The Cybertruck has a lot of edges where they just Sheared the panels without milling rhe edges. Better watch your leg getting in and out!

Yeah that's not gonna work. Elon Musk is a genius but he's not a vehicle manufacturer. Not yet anyway. Another 10 or 20 years of R&D, trial and error and experience and he just might be but not now.
