love the empathy: "if you feel overwhelmed, you're not alone" - very comforting to hear!

The most valuable practice that has made my content and engagement improve is to HAVE A TRUSTED PARTNER WATCH AND CRITIQUE YOUR VIDEOS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THEM. As a creator so deep in editing, you can lose sight of important things that are immediately apparent to someone with an outside opinion. Thanks for the great content.

I like that you broke down a plan to editing to help those who are overwhelmed by the process take small actions daily.

You didn't mention script. I think a well written script can be a game changer. But your video felt great. You have nailed all the points to perfection. ❤

Agree with you 100%! This particular video was focused on editing concepts/principles, but I definitely want to create a video about scriptwriting concepts in the future. Especially for educational videos, scriptwriting is *everything*

This video is one of your best videos I have watched to date for beginners tips especially how to practice improving your videos at the 10:34 min mark. I will be practising that. I expect this video should gain momentum over time when more people binge-watch like I am. Wondering if the title/thumbnail could be A/B tested with new changes, as this video should reach 20-30K views before too long. It is that good! (the only small tip I can provide is to switch from the Sony ZV1 to ZV-E10 for a bit higher video quality at APS-C instead of 1 inch sensor, perhaps you have already in a later video, the cost is so close between these 2 cameras and worth it).

Great intro video! I really liked it. I worked as a learning designer in a University (basically teaching academics to teach) and we used this type of video as the promo/funnel to hook in academics. Our focus was on tutorial videos so the editing was different. The focus is on the activity - process shots, screen captures etc. I put the talking head in the welcome and sign off and to emphasise key points. B-roll tended to more intentional than incidental. I was usually dealing with an older audience who seemed less tolerant of jump and zoom cuts. The motivation of the audience was also different. To an extent they already had some skin in the game, so the editing was more "fit for purpose" rather than too slick and commercial. We still used the 10 minute rule for clips but the total lesson content might be 40 minutes. More in the LinkedIn Learning style., but with an on campus tutor.

I am so glad that I've found your channel. Of all tutorial videos for KZbin video editing, yours is by far the most informative and professional I've seen. Not only that, ALl of the information is relevant and delivered without the use of jargons that newbies like me, might not be familiar with. Thank you so much for taking the time to put such precious material out, for all of us, new KZbinrs 👍

This is excellent and just what I've been looking for. I want to learn to create high quality KZbin videos but I didn't know what all of these video elements were even called so that I could search for lessons on how to achieve them. Now I know what they're called (e.g. "B roll") and have a starting point. I also agree with @RohitHela. A lesson on how you write your script structure document and shot list would be helpful. You showed screenshots of these in your "killer KZbin intro" video so I at least have a starting point. Thanks again!

With the zoom cuts (around 4:30), are you just magnifying or zooming in on the clip in your editing software? Does that affect resolution or quality at all? I have noticed this effect many times but just now hearing you talk about it. Haven't researched yet. Thanks these are all great tips!

Hopefully, you'll see this question. I know this video is older, and this could be a silly question but I'm going to ask anyway. Let's say you've recorded b-roll footage of yourself but you have a noticeable change in your appearance (you get a drastic haircut or dye it a different color). Would you still use the b-roll? Or would that be too distracting?

@@AndresArosemena 2 main reasons! 1) he was expensive, and 2) for a while, I was uploading more frequently and didn't have the time for the back-and-forth with an editor. Now, I won't go back to an editor for a lonnnggg time - not because of the price or the upload schedule, but because my content has improved SO much since I started editing myself. It's not that my editing is better than his (it's not), but it's because now that I have complete control over the entire creative process, I'm able to ideate and visualize and adapt so much more

With my old editor, they usually did manual text with an effect applied to them! For my current videos, I'm a fan of more simple captions. For Shorts, I like using Descript for captions!
