Zone maps are not absolute; if you find the information contradictory to your own experience, you may live in a microclimate. Soil, moisture, humidity, heat, wind, and other conditions also affect the viability of individual plants. To get the most accurate information, use the USDA's interactive map tool and input your zip code directly to see the specific zone for your location. planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/ Thank you Pam at www.youtube.com/@FlowerPatchFarmhouse for pointing this very important information out. 💗

Even though I am a content creator, I still watch KZbin channels every day. It’s my special little “Me” that I enjoy with my cup of tea. I find that the larger channels with the big gardens leave me feeling a little discouraged. I could never afford to plant things on such a larger scale like they do. So I tend to gravitate toward the more down to earth and budget friendly gardens. 💙💚💛🧡💜 Liz

I watch people that are interesting and seem to have big hearts and love gardening. While Iike to watch channels in my area so I know what and when I can grow, I do get so much information others have to offer. It doesn't matter the size of their garden. But I don't like to watch the certain channels that are so big and rich or flamboyant because they get so much free or can afford luxurious homes. Being in my 70's I can't even hope to copy that lifestyle. It holds nothing for me. I am interested in growing plants from seeds, division, cuttings, and growing plants for sale from my garden. Those are the ones I watch. I enjoy some home decorating, crafts from what I grow and recipies for using what I grow and how to trim and care for the plants because I have an acre and need plants to help landscape that land. Happy birthday Vita!

Hi June! Thanks for the birthday wishes! 🥰 I always tell people that gardening doesn't have to be expensive. If I just had a very small space and only a few pots to fill, then I could probably splurge and get fancy pots and the most robust, best performing plants. But I also love the hunt of a great bargain! I also like to push myself to propagate plants. I mean how cool does it feel when you take a cutting and it actually produces roots? Or when you divide a plant over and over again and it gives your more free plants? I think many of us can relate to how great of a feeling it is when we make more plants and care for them along the way. 💗 Happy gardening, friend!

Happy, happy birthday Vita 🎉 🎂! I watched that episode by Steph also. I too used to watch flower farming videos as I live in a rural area but we designated an acre 1+ for our goats and the trees are beautiful, it's like a park. I like to watch different channels for different kinds of bed ideas as I love several different styles. Above all, I enjoy saving money because it takes alot of flowers and plant am to fill my beds. I find the folks over the pond to be a bit more resourceful while propagating and growing seeds. Plop and drop gardening isn't really my style. I too enjoy container gardening as I struggle with crayfish soil that I am still amending and can utilize containers in beds as needed. Celebrate your special day!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Lisa! I appreciate it. 🥰 Your space sounds just lovely! I found that when I was watching flower farming-only channels, I got inspired and wanted to try and grow some of those same flowers from seed. One year I grew a bunch of Lisianthus, Stock, Snapdragons, Statice, etc. But then when the time came to plant them out, I struggled on where to put them since all my space is just garden beds (mostly in shade or part shade / part sun) and pots. Lol. I'm getting better and growing plants that will do well in my own yard.🌺

I learn something from most channels and can incorporate that info into my own gardening.

Hi Stephen. Thank you for your insight. Since I have a plant nursery, I've seen a lot of interest in people wanting to buy only native plants. I often wonder if when it comes to gardening channels, if the same is true (that some people only want to watch channels having to do with native plants). It's all so very interesting to me and I love learning about what people are looking for when it comes to their gardens. 😊🌻

@@karenl3454 oh, you are in a tough weather zone to find content to relate to as far as available plants. We had thought about moving further north, but that would be a zone 3 or 4 and I have limitations in Z5a with a tricky micro climate. I think Vita mentioned some plants that we would love to grow and can’t. I then tell myself we have plants that need cold hours that others can’t grow 😊.

Composting is composting, when it comes to gardening information I fall back on something my father said ( get your garden information from someone that lives in a worst place weather/soil than you. I am super excited that you collected a ton of seeds. We'll have a lot of fun starting them this year! For your dahlias, can you overwinter them in the ground or did you have to dig them up and store them? Dahlias are one of my favorites! 🌺
@celestedinnocenzo8513
@celestedinnocenzo8513 15 күн бұрын
@ so I belong to a small informal garden club in my town and Dahlias were a big favorite. I was given 3 small bulbs in the spring (my first time growing them). I planted them in two different locations to see were they would do best. I had success in both areas and when I dug them up I had double the bulbs. I put them in a shoebox and stored them in my basement where it is nice and cool. I don’t know what variety I have but in the spring my garden club will be having a Dahlia swap and they have some spectacular varieties. Very much looking forward to the new growing season.

Mostly because I didn't know I could do that. Thanks to you, I have saved some annuals to over winter & even some seeds. And hope to collect even more in future years. I watch Alexandra from The Middle Sized Garden and Murphy's Garden in the UK because I love both cottage style and formal gardens. Of course I love Laura, Aaron and their family on Garden Answer. Happy Birthday! I love watching all sorts of gardening videos, especially during the cold months. I wish more gardeners would state their growing zones and geographical locations in ever video or at least in their descriptions. If you follow or subscribe, you may already know their growing zone, but if you're just popping in for a visit, you have no idea unless they state this information in the video you're watching. Listing the month rather than just the season is helpful as well.

Thank you for your insight and suggestion regarding listing growing zone, geographical location, and well as month in every video. I absolutely agree with you! Great advice, friend! 💗😊

Happy Birthday!!! My garden is currently snow covered and the wind is brutal. Shovelling snow isn't as much fun as gardening in May. Canada also has gardening zones. I think they may use the same zoning system as the US. My zone is around a 6a (mostly due to my proximity to the Lake Ontario), but I feel our zones are a pretty good match. I also watch KZbin channels of gardeners in California. I may be a tad jealous of their extended growing season, but I'm happy I don't have to deal with extended periods of super hot weather. Each area has it's challenges. I think I'm living in a pretty sweet spot. I think the least relatable aspect of some some other channels is when they get huge shipments of PW plants arriving at their house. For some reason that has never happened to me! LOL . I can appreciate that gardening is a business as well as a passion for some. However, I do find it ridiculously satisfying to overwinter and propagate plants for my garden. I have found your channel the most relatable, inspiring and informative of all. Thank you!

Thanks so much, Maureen - for both the birthday wishes as well as thoughts about my channel. I truly appreciate it. 🥰 We got the first snowfall of the season late night into this morning. I'm hoping it melts away until the next snowfall, but on the same token, if it's here to stay, that means the snow will insulate and protect all my plants during the very cold days. I'm always trying to look at the positive in everything... 😅 Oh I'm definitely jealous of gardens that look lush and beautiful all year round. But you're right. My daughter is currently attending college to be a veterinarian. 🐈🐶 That's pretty amazing that you drive through three different gardening zones in just one state! You comment prompted me to look up how many gardening zones does New York state have. I never would have thought it - 8 zones! 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b, 7a, and 7b. I prefer to look at channels with a similar zone as well (I'm zone 9). But because I garden in an area with specific challenges (very sandy soil, high humidity, heavy pest pressure) even gardeners in similar zones don't always have conditions like mine. For example there's a popular channel I like in zone 9 but they're in the southwest so the climate is very different (dry, low rainfall, clay soil). So I glean the bits from that channel that apply, but I know I can't copy their methods exactly and I tend to ignore advice about specific varieties. OTOH there's a channel I recently found that is actually not too far away from my area so their growing conditions are almost exactly the same. I pay a lot of attention to the varieties they grow and the methods they use.

I love reading comments also and especially if they are more than’Wheres your cat Fluffy’, ect🙄. That’s a bit of a turn-off in comments for me. It’s the type of comments that are on the million subscribers channels. I find smaller channels more informative-Real People with Real Budgets and ideals. Heaven forbid if you critic something about a video in one of those channels as the piranhas come out full force😂. So on that note my advice is be careful who you align with as then you are no longer original. I think some tend to copy and paste and I can’t blame some for doing that at times because let’s face it, even though there are countless varieties of plants there really is no way to reinvent the wheel. There are several audiences to appeal to such as: Those looking for new varieties and what zone they are growing well in, design, how to for new gardeners, flowers fruit or vegetables, motivation, and those that are living in a gardener desert and need the collaboration of other gardeners 😂(Me) and helps fill those dreary winter months. But in all reality gardening itself is fairly straightforward once you know the basics. Some other turnoffs for me are when a creator titles a video-‘Your crazy not to plant X, Y, Z’ and they live in zone 9 while appearing to be talking to all gardeners. Some show permaculture and have great harvests and talk as if it would work for everyone-it doesn’t and they are just blessed with great growing conditions. Then there are the trends 😂-I don’t know if people are bored or just have too much money. Like I said no need to reinvent the wheel. Hope you had a great birthday 🎉

I honestly say no because I'm always doing something garden related and I just love to share whatever it is that I'm doing (even if it's cleaning out seed starting containers or organizing my seeds). I love KZbin because there are a lot of people that want to hear all about that. If I start talking gardening with my husband, he always says talk to your friends on KZbin. 😅🌸

@@budgetgardeningvita lol, yes, the other half. Well hopefully he doesn’t try to help in the garden😅. Mine pulled the lettuce I wanted seed from, dug a shrub I had divided off…ect.😂. Just keep doing your own thing as I do enjoy the content. I’m sure creating videos isn’t easy and compensation is important. I’ve noticed some of those high subscribers reaching out to lower subscribers channels I watch and it did change their channel and not always for the better.

@dustyflats3832 Mr. Budget Gardener has learned not to help me weed my gardens as every freebie plant seedling needs to live, even if I'm just digging and moving it somewhere else or potting it up for my plant nursery. 😜
