Mark, you hit the nail on the head! I've noticed that instead of doing what they love, lots of creators want the fast track to subscribers and money, so they do "commercial-type" content. I think the best thing to do is make content that YOU love, and like-minded people will join you on this crazy journey that is KZbin. Sure, views are awesome, and subscriber numbers are wonderful, but being surrounded by like-minded creative people is even more so rewarding. KZbin is NOT my job, nor will it ever be. I have a full-time career that I adore, and don't want to ever leave. KZbin is my hobby and a way for me to express my creative self. Lots of people are being very cut-throat and it's sad. There's room for everyone to grow :(

Video summary: KZbin is changing. It has become less of a free platform for creativity and more of a system, it's more of an "every man for himself" type site where criticizing other KZbinrs is become a very trending type of video or channel. Because so many of these channels are growing, a lot of the viewers are influenced into automatically disregarding another channel simply because they are not what they want them to be. And in the end, its crushing the sense of creativity.

Markimoo, this is why I love you. I have 4 kids, 2 of them are at the "youtube viewing" age. If I hear your voice coming from where they're sitting, I don't worry about what they're watching. I know your vids aren't all G rated, but my kids are mature and smart, and I don't worry about that. What I worry about are these videos you're talking about. Great video, Mark. This is my tenth year on KZbin, and I've noticed that it has its own little generational thing going on. Every three years or so, there's a change. It's become very corporate. Very cynical in many ways. It used to be about community, and following and supporting each others videos. Here's a little thing you may not know about, that I learnt about from my friend in California. It started happening in 2012. There are companys that set up huge warehouses, and then segregate these warehouses into little rooms. Each room is made to look like someones bedroom. Then young actors looking for a KZbin career are sculpted into a 'current' look, and are handed 'hot' topics to talk about, which they deliever from their 'bedroom'. Everything is scripted, planned, and created to pull in viewers, and of course, money. Loads of money is funneled into marketing and promotion, which of course comes back to these companies in revenue. The good looking kid gets KZbin career, and the business makes tons of money. This is happening even more with Twitch, and now gaming. My friend is a pretty good source, and has no reason to lie. That said, I have no idea if this is true or not, but it makes complete sense to me. It feels like the natural progression of what was once a brilliant, brilliant idea.

I want to say Gangnum Style changed everything. It was one of the first really big hits on KZbin that everyone was aware of in the mainstream and as such made a lot of money and as time has gone on, users aren't getting the features they want that other services provide but you can't be on those because KZbin is the video streaming service. If you're not putting videos on KZbin, you're practically dead. Blip being killed off didn't help either as it offered a safety net for a lot of content creators and critics who used copyrighted material but in a fair use manner.

I am a big fan of GradeA UnderA. I've never been much of a fan of Markiplier, but I had seen this video when it came out. Now... let me say that I'm sorry for Grade's recent video. He didn't make any real point and he went too far trying to bash on Mark. Grade says that Mark shouldn't be taken seriously, while he admitted at 11:31 himself that he just rambled! He had something on his mind and it was interesting listening to it. It's just sad how triggered Grade got, and I really couldn't take HIM seriously in the end. He was saying over and over again that this was the "worst fucking video" he'd ever seen, like a dozen times, like wtf... Most GradeA fans on his recent video are commenting likewise... So, Mark... a lot of us GradeA fans stand by you on this one. You did nothing wrong.

I think I know what you mean by this Mark, and what you're saying is pretty deep. There was a once upon a time when people made videos because they want these videos come to life. It was about the content. Nowadays, more and more people are doing it just for the business and it makes views and money, which is a shame because all I want to do is force those people to watch their own videos and ask them, "Would you watch this?" They've resorted to making these clickbait videos that immediately get views for a few days, but their reputation however, in the long run, end up becoming sour and not taken as seriously as someone who would have 10x less subscribers than them. Popularity =/= Good Quality If I may use myself as an example, I've done videos that both make a good amount and little views. My reviews accumulate so many views, like 5-digits in one weekend, especially if it's a new movie that's fresh off the theatres and the more popular it is or how amazing/terrible it is, the more popular it becomes. At the same time, I make something called The Muppet Vlogs where I talk about each episode of The Muppet Show and the new series of The Muppets in a vlog style. It would take a miracle if they surpassed 1000 views. However, I equally love doing both and the process of making them. Sure, I could just ditch The Muppet Vlogs to make more reviews, but then it'll just feel like a job and I'm just doing something that's only for them and not something I might personally enjoy myself. Of course, drama will happen, but a shame to say that it will happen no matter what and it's something we can't control because there's always one troublemaker out there who's up to no good, but if we want to be a big community, he'd have to work together and be strong in order to discourage these activities that promote hatred. It's no secret that KZbin is leaning more and more into the business side and encouraging what's popular instead of encouraging the creators themselves. That or I'm just thinking too hard over the words of a guy talking about what he sees on a website :P that could be a viable option

No matter how much change goes on on KZbin and in Life itself, as a Community we can control the direction this goes with our voices and our opinions. We can definitely make KZbin an amazing place, or at least try and make it better than it seems to be right now. There was that recent incident with the whole "React" thing that we all stood against and they got rid of it immediately, that's how strong our voices and opinions matter here on KZbin. There are many examples, but that's just the recent one that comes to mind. All I can say is, we still love you and respect you, Mark, so don't worry about that and we appreciate your concern about the direction of KZbin (your damn livelihood basically) and we are here to support your words and what you do. Just keep being you, sure there may be small changes here and there, but hey we're only human, everyone changes. *Big Hugs* Still hope to be able to game with you one day!

I always watch my old videos. Helps me remember why I started and keeps me from losing myself. Mark is right, money is important. The $5-$10 I get a month can pay for my lunch during my breaks at work. I can go to 7-11 and buy a few Slurpees and a soda. Just remember what you used to use KZbin for, and ask yourself if you're still doing it for the same reasons.

+EMPiiRE™ I used to make videos just for fun, in 6 years I felt no need to become a partner until last month I saw my views, 2.5M in total, and I thought to myself "I could've bought a game with that money to make this other video" so last month I started monetizing for the very first time and ever since then I started realizing the kind of video I didn't enjoy making is the kind that has the most views and makes more money, also, it's the one that takes less effort and requires less time to make, so I thought of changing my content mainly to that kind but ever since I monetized I have been procrastinating from making videos while years ago making videos was my form of procrastination. I'm forgetting why I started uploading to youtube and this video made me really think of the kind of video I'd be doing even if there's more effort and no pay, it's what I truly enjoy but...is it really worth my time? That's what I still need to figure because just like you I make minimum money from this.
