The irony here is that this version of the infomercial is much more honest. Most of the almost unanimous 1 star reviews said the knives don't even cut butter and actually were one for the price of two considering that they charged more for shipping than they did for the knives, but hid that cost from the consumer. What Ron said at 7:55 turned out to be true.

I recall some years ago (around the time I first saw the original paid program for the knives) reading a lot of reviews and they varied by year. Most of the older reviews were positive, complimenting the high quality of the knives and customer service, but then there came a point when Popeil sold his company and from there, the knives diminished in quality, taking with it the quality of the customer service, and therefore the reviews, but this as I said was some time ago (around June/July 2015) so don't quote me on that.

The quality may have gotten worse over the years. A long time ago, perhaps around when this commercial aired originally, my family bought a couple of the Ronco knife sets, and one member of my family had the Chef Tony-promoted "Miracle Blade" set. The Showtime knives were significantly nicer to use and they also lasted longer. The blades didn't rust as quickly, and the riveted handles held up better than the single molded plastic piece on the Miracle Blades. Of course, the Roncos weren't great knives but for how cheap they were you couldn't have bought cheap knives at Walmart that were any better.
