I find KZbin isn't smart enough to understand my various interests, so with this sub channel I watch tech, trading news, etc., etc., on another I produce more content for example. I switched between these on an airplane and suddenly, unless I connected to the internet, not possible on this flight, they apologized, I was not going to be able to watch anything I downloaded. My heart dropped like you wouldn't believe. This is literally how I deal with flying. I watched an inflight movie... enjoyed myself reasonably, but got none of the research I'm usually doing done so I wasted my time and it relatively felt horrible. Most of my experiences are fine, but this SUUUUCKED.

Louis, really enjoy the content as a 62yr old Aussie. I too have had annoying AI responses from eBay and PayPal regarding an iPhone sold to me as new and 7 months later l discover it was actually a refurbished iPhone. ( A repairman confirmed the phone was refurbished). I asked my seller for a full refund and was refused saying it was not eBay policy and when l submitted complaints to eBay and PayPal the AI response was disappointing with no support even though I had fraudulently been sold a used phone. Enough of my troubles keep up the good work pushing back.

The youtube premium download issue is exactly why I stopped paying a subscription to YT Premium and Spotify!! I go on the road a lot outside of cell service. Multiple times I've had Spotify completely remove my downloads (well within the 30 day download expiration limit) for no reason while I am out. I have youtube premium yelling at me to connect to the internet to use my downloads fully defeating the purpose. I got fed up and ended up ripping all my liked songs on both platforms and throwing the mp3's into my phone.

Yeah the other issue is you pay but have the videos are just ads themselves. And then within the videos there's endless self-promotion, sponsored bits etc. so you're really only removing a fraction of the ads when you pay 13 bucks a month or whatever it is

fun fact, the PSP and PSvita had a means to get around an always online connection. You payed for their service and you could access your games anywhere on the go, the licenses were timed and sure you couldn't always just play the game, a simple connection to the store after the expiration timer (most games I owned were a year) would renew that licenses again so it can be used offline again. Steam does something similar with the steam deck as I've never had to connect online with it once I installed the game.

Software developers hold the real power in the world. I've maintained for several years that Daylight Savings Time (DST) is one of the worst ideas anyone has ever come up with. DST can be eliminated by waiting for time to normalize, wait a month, and then quietly _delete_ DST handling code from all major OSes and libraries. When people go to change the time on their clocks, they'll discover that DST has been permanently deleted. Poof. No more DST. Changing times on clocks twice a year causes innumerable software failures...twice a year. DST is a plague on humanity but software developers can correct this problem.

Or it has a url or something that looks like a url, such as trying to cite a US law site or a government site. There have been cases where I check to see my comment is removed within seconds of posting, consistently. Where I have to keep on guessing as to what part of my comment led to it's auto-removal from the comments section. Worse yet, it's always like a shadow removal. I look on my side, it's there. Refresh, it's there. Go into incognito, it's not there.

Yeah, Google (and KZbin) was one of the rare mega-corporation that I respected in the past, for a few reasons... But in the last 5-10 years all that respect went completely down the drain. The censorship on KZbin, especially in the comment section, is really out of control. Sometimes here now it just feels like if I was living in a dictatorship like China or Russia. That's not normal... A few years ago they started censoring anything that would look slightly like an insult between users, but now anything you write can be censored for absolutely no reason! I'm now regularly verifying my comments with a second account and probably between around 10% or 20% of my comments are not showing up to other people. (Depending on the subject and length of the comment.) I'm talking about comments that doesn't contain anything controversial, insults, urls or anything like that. I had hope this could change back to how it was 10 years ago but I know the odds for this to be happening are pretty much none. The problem is that streaming came to be owned and run by the same shenanigans that run cable TV, bringing all those detestable business practices with them: cutting backroom deals resulting in disappearing titles, treating customers as money to be pilfered (hiking prices), and (soon to come) booting customers off once the Chinese communist style social credit system is put in place. These are all signs of business chiefs being so out of touch with their customers that they're willing to attack them, and in many cases are doing so. It's not just social media doing this. Individually, they're far to small to create a change but when they all work in concert, they can almost literally move mountains. I've been working very hard on a concept that could well make a significant dent in KZbin's dominance of the user-generated VOD market. Things like PeerTube are self-scaling and therefore don't require huge amounts of money or resources from any individual user. Imagine if a million people decided to run PeerTube on their 1Gbps fiber connections -- that's a 1 petabit per second of bandwidth. Imagine if they all had 1TB drives on their systems dedicated to holding those videos -- that's an exabyte of storage. These are numbers which are beyond the realm of any startup but could easily be produced if just a *tiny* percentage of YT creators bought into a networked system of peers to host and serve content. Of course packaging and promoting the system would be crucial -- but that's also not impossible. What's more, monetizing it would also be relatively easy so content creators would still get paid for their efforts. All it needs is some coordination and someone to drive the change. I'm willing to do my bit ... but I'm 71 years old so it'll take some other hands on the pump to get this ball rolling.

@@stellviahohenheim there's a few problems 1] it's illegal to compete directly with youtube. without the permission of the original uploaders, you breach *their* copyrights by copying content. will they care? depends. would youtube try to make a case? probably... most people never really came to these platforms because the platform was any good, it was all for the content. now we can't leave because most of that content is not available elsewhere 2] it's insanely expensive to run something akin to youtube. and it's pretty clear youtube, themselves, can't afford to stay in business. big daddy google is subsidizing youtube consistently running red. [same thing keeping disney afloat while the studios pump-out trash/flops, the parks/merch/etc... are making-up the losses. explains why shutting the parks down in 2020 hurt them so much. unsustainable/unstable business model] i don't entirely buy that it's impossible to make youtube a successful business *without* becoming a jerkwad, though... 3] this is where the size of google truly matters. hypothetically, and starting small, i assure you, this has to start small, you overcome points 1 and 2. this is where they turn to aggression, just like rossman is dealing with. most people are not rossman, and never will be. he's quite lucky that he can actually afford millions. most of us, partly due to luck and partly due to how rigged the socio-economic system is, might make 1 million over our entire life. but that's only in total. fewer at any one point, will actually have 1 million saved-up. still, compared to uhm... trillions of dollars, that's pocket change. what does help is the angry hornet's nest he [and these companies] have stirred-up. all ready to sting these ceos and politicians millions/billions of times over. 4] for anyone doing something akin to rossman, just remember what twitter and reddit did. i'm surprised google hasn't. if the legal option fails, they still have absolute control over the platform and its API. it'd be very hard to throw the government against this, too... especially the US government where our laws primarily protect corporations and rich families. 5] youtube going down would be a loss. maybe something else rsises from the ashes, nearly everything currently available on youtube would be gone. and just like the internet archive, most of it simply cannot be replaced were that to happen. it's bad enough youtube likes to silently delete videos/channels left and right. also, nothing prevents this new platform from devolving in exactly the same way as youtube has.

I once paid for KZbin Premium. I was offered three features of interest: ad-free, family sharing, and pre-caching (misleadingly labelled downloads). *KZbin kept showing me ads, claimed my mother wasn't my family, and removed the pre-caching feature.* For background, years before they offered premium, I had asked them for the option to buy the ad slots shown to me. They refused, and more than quadrupled the ads, apparently convinced they can't sell ad-free without first making their ads completely insufferable.

When you work hard all you get is harder work. Do the bare minimum for your pay rate and if you need a raise go somewhere else. It's the only way to get a substantial pay increase. Its gotten to where we're expected to do the work of three people for the pay of one.

The problem here is that the state shouldn't be doing this stuff, because they definitely can't do anything efficiently and are doomed to bureaucracy...but the state's job, which it fails to do, is to monitor and limit the abusive 'anti-free market' policies of monopolies and oligopolies. The job of government should not be to provide services that others can deliver, but to ensure the even playing field and prevent the most egregious of corporate business practices. Sadly, government can't even do that right.

The law does not care about how many subs someone has, it cares about whether or not there was a true violation of user's described rights when using a service.
