Family channels are abuse. It's plain and simple. Privacy is a right, not a privilege and It sickens me to imagine never having a single moment to yourself. Imagine you are in a distressing situation and all you want is to be comforted by your own parents, your carers who are supposed to love you unconditionally, and that moment gets shared with everyone and anyone. The fake break-up video angers me to no end. As a daughter of a mother who has fought my father several times in front of me and my sister it's nothing to freaking joke about. I started becoming over paranoid over the smallest stuff, because I'd worry that big disasters would happen. The smallest things like disagreements caused me (and sometimes they still do) to go into this panic mode inside, thinking that "oh its going to get into a fight" or "maybe so and so hates me because I accidentally did this". Like, how desensitized are you do that to your kids!?

I can respect that. I don't think that showing the baby randomly in the background of the video is bad. Or even having like a normal conversation with the child is bad. There's one guy who makes like a little podcast with his daughter that doesn't give me the ick because you can tell the little girl loves to talk and be on camera and her dad does not discuss inappropriate things with her or make her play up a character for the videos. I wish I knew at the top of my head who it is. It's a blond guy with dirty blond long hair, and his daughter looks similar. I think it becomes bad when the child obviously doesn't want to be in the videos. In the daddyofive videos you can clearly see that a lot of the kids do not want to be in the videos. Many of the others look disingenuous, like the kids are given lines to memorize, rehearse, and deliver. I would hate that.

My heart breaks for every child on a Family Channel. Their "parents" gave them no choice but to be a part of the channel from pretty much conception and they have no true privacy. Their digital footprints are ruined and the kids are gonna have to fight tooth and nail to get a fraction of the money that their "parents" made off of their backs. What money they get is gonna have to be used for YEARS of therapy, if they even make it to therapy. I’m surprised you didn’t talk about fathering autism. They exploit their autistic daughter by filming her and uploading an episode almost every day, talking about her like she’s not there, filming her during vulnerable moments that no one would want filmed of them if it happened to them (including filming her on the toilet), and siccing their fans on anybody who criticizes them, to the point of death threats. She can’t speak, so they don’t allow her to stand up for herself using other means of communication. She has an iPad to communicate, but you suspiciously never see her say “no filming”. I really do not think that the Parents of the Autistic young Adult are meaning to exploit her. I think they are using their experience to encourage others in the same boat. That being said, only GOD knows their heart and their intentions. As the Mother of a 32 year old man with Autism, I’ve not seen anything shocking on their channel, although I didn’t see a video of her on the toilet. Surprised that was even allowed to be put up. Sometimes, parents over share, and if they did, calling them out is appropriate. I learned a lot about some things I’d not dealt with yet, with my Son, like Guardianship, etc. I learned about the separate attorneys and the process, etc. I have always gotten the impression that their channel was for educational purpose and sharing their sweet daughter. My parents took videos until i was about 6 and they never left my dad's computer! I am so thankful that those moments were protected as i would resent my parents if they were public. These kids are already growing up and are resenting their parents for what they did. While some family channels do seem ok, i dont understand why you would share their face for millions of people.

When I was a kid I had a breakdown over my mom trying to film my reaction to finding out we were going to Disney for my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. It was just for family (who were also going) to see. But I locked myself in my closet and started crying. I just wasn’t good at handling my emotions and it was all overwhelming me. My parents immediately stopped, calmed me down, and deleted the video. We had a good convo about it and nothing like that ever happened again. I was like 6 or 7. I can’t imagine what growing up with my entire life online would have done to me

There is a family who is wildly popular and successful (financially) for making YT videos about their children. They purchased a 15 million dollar home in my hometown and the media posted the suburb location along with real estate photos of the home. It took a good 2 minutes for me to figure out the address. 2 minutes. Imagine what stalkers might do with this information. Insanity.
