With an experience of 20 shorts in 2 months I think there is some niches for which it can help people to be discovered (my shorts have had between 300 and 1800 views for the last one). As a classical guitarist since I am doing shorts my channel takes off a little bit more. It is really difficult to produce long videos regularly in classical music as you have to learn the piece before you can play it in a professionnel way and with shorts I can be more regular on posting new videos. The purpose is to share beautiful pieces of content and it is frustrating to see that even one minute is sometimes to long to have people stay on a video. Cheers

Something I have an issue with is that the shorts get tons of views but my longer videos that I actually put a lot of genuine time and energy into editing and filming still don't get much activity at all. That's really frustrating that the harder you work on a video the less views it gets. Shouldn't it be the opposite? The videos that I put a lot of quality time and energy into filming and editing should be the ones drawing in viewers. Why is KZbin pushing shorts so hard now and basically putting the blinders on our longer videos? It's really ruining the KZbin platform. Most people don't want to see a bunch of shorts only. But KZbin has made it so that's all that you can make if you actually want your videos to be seen. Prove me wrong

Not that reels are bad in themselves, but by how they set up the new algorithm to push reels much harder, it incentivizes creators to be less creative ..in a sense. Now they're not putting together actual quality productions, but just stupid little clips instead. All the quality content is going to slowly disappear and we will just be left with an internet of mush in a blender.

A few variables. Though, it’s probably because it’s first pushing to your subscribers giving you that initial push, but it dies off afterwards because your subscribers didn’t have a positive enough reaction to it. A positive reaction would result in KZbin showing the short to more non subscribers.

Great stuff! In regards to aspect ratio, it looks like square may be a good alternative to 16x9. Half the shorts in the short shelf for me today were uploaded in a square aspect ratio. Perhaps KZbin is loosening on this as square would make for a better experience on desktop.

I've always loved to make high quality intriguing gaming videos, they usually take about 40-60 hours to craft, each. Sadly they usually only receive 100-300 views. Just recently I uploaded two shorts, just to try it out. They did meh in the first few days but then had a minor explosion up to 1.100 and 700 views, which is way higher than I usually get! It feels counterintuitive to publish videos that take so little effort to make and receive so manymore views, but they can help a lot to grow a bigger audience

Yeah, no. It doesn't work. Literally had a bunch of shorts now that were only shown to 2 people. Not 20, but 2! And if I have to believe the statistics both people watched the entire thing. And still the KZbin Alghorithm thinks "nah forget it... not going to show this to anyone!" . It's getting to a point where it literally starts to feel like the algorithm is programmed to just bully small channels, trying to scare them away. Awful.

From personal experience I believe it's completely random whether or not your short will get lots of views or not (unless KZbin does arbitrarily hide videos which we would never know). However I have noticed that time of day does have some influence more than the content itself.

My shorts did rly well for maybe half a month but now for 2-3 months I’ll be lucky to get 30 views on my shorts. I put genuine effort into edits and they get 20 views but friends use CapCut templates and they all get 2k+ views

Make them shorter and more interesting. Once you can get viewers to complete 15 seconds, make them a little longer. Rinse, repeat. Video performance is key.

Well done 🙌🏻 I posted a shorts video this week and in less than 4 hours it got 2k+ views and around 100 likes but then it started to get negative comments so I decided I don't want that on my channel and I deleted the video and re upload it hours later. It didn't do well the second time it got 68 views or so, I did that again and the third time was even worse so in my conclusion don't pay attention to negativity, in the end is still counts as traffic on your video and it will help with the algorithm, just don't feed the negative comments. I've learned my lesson

Excellent point. As creators we have to learn how to brush off the bad comments. KZbin gives us tools in desktop studio to add words to a filter, so if someone uses that word, the comment goes into a “held” area. I recommend loading that up to reduce the visibility of certain comments you may not want to see.

Shorts are often hit or miss tho in my experience. Either it gets thousands of views or literally 0. So my question while watching this video is why KZbins algorithm would not even test a short. If a short is getting literally 0 views that means KZbin didn't test it anywhere and is holding as a glorified cloud storage platform.

What I have learned with my channel is the first short you post will be the most viewed out of all your other shorts you make out of that. In my case my first short got around 1.7k views and my next short only got 130 in about a week and then all my videos started to fall after that. Great video btw!

I have come to realize that KZbin made a section on my front home page specifically for shorts.... (I didn't do this) when I make a short video it goes into that playlist.... I can not change the thumbnail and it makes me mad 😂 I did not create that playlist KZbin did that for me... when I make a video and is not right it will NOT go under the short section on my home page. I see a lot of people making shorts and they are NOT the right when it comes to vertical form... they might have black bars around the video or something and it doesn't get put into shorts. I don't have to hashtag my shorts. I started KZbin about 3 months ago and my first video was a short. I didn't know that though. The title was the date until I understood what the heck was happening

Shorts are hit or miss at least for me anyway. it's either they get lots of views really quickly, like 10K in an hour - or never gain traction at all and stagnate at less than 100 views in a day with it seeming like theres no in between, even if all shorts are of a similar topic which are likely to be rewatched multiple times. It results in me having to reupload a short multiple times for it just to be picked up on the shorts shelf, any help with this? Thx

A lot of people experience the same thing. My suggestion is to take the same video and upload it to Facebook Reels, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. A lot of people are blowing up on those platforms with videos that are dead on KZbin.

the time thing is true, I uploaded a short last week, no views for a couple days then over the weekend got 400 views in an hour from shorts before it died off again, its seems almost random what gets recommended but who knows!

I have had my first two shorts on my other channel not hit the short shelf at all. Where they get the typical amount of views as usual compared to my shorts before they hit. Haha. One was an experiment and the other was something I thought would do decently. Then I’ve had one that I really thought would do well, do terribly on the shelf. 🤣 I made a shorts video and told people their shorts were boring. 🤣
