There were so many people in the chat saying that magic cat academy is a ripoff of another game (divineko, made in the last two or three years), but magic cat was a halloween google doodle in 2016 and then reprised itself with a sequel for halloween 2020. Was surprised that people didn't remember these google doodles, or maybe they are just too young.

90% of those games that are popular are also rip-offs of apps that didn't get popular. Making the exact same game but with a different skin is practically impossible to enforce copyright on in that industry with how many of them are rip-offs. If anything, I have a feeling most of the original apps that created these ideas aren't even on the app store anymore because they didn't have the money to fight against the popular ones saying they stole the idea from them, if the popular apps bothered doing that at all.

@@xxgothicprincessxx i don't do contract work for google, but i do very similar work to this and it's kind of fun and a nightmare at the same time. if you like programming then it doesn't matter how shit the concept is, you can have fun problem-solving how to get it to work. that being said, answering to these rich assholes managing the projects from the client side is the most soul crushing dream killer. they do not like innovation. i cannot count the number of times i have sent over a wip build and gotten back a screenshot of the game they're having us rip off saying "make it look more like this".

Netflix executed their games very well and they’re mostly really good games. KZbin tried to recreate it too quickly with terrible games and it shows. Also not being able to download them isn’t a good thing I can’t watch KZbin Picture in Picture while playing the games on the KZbin app which is mildly annoying.

i think youtube has some potential with this if they opened it up to independent creators, even if they still moderated the games that get published. normally i'm against these big companies taking over more platforms, but a game platform that's directly connected to youtube has some cool possibilities with integration. imagine videos of gameplay not only linking to the actual game that you can play on the site, maybe even in a sidebar, but also allowing creators to set challenges and share high scores and such. imagine watching lud livestreaming playing a game and being able to send him a verified legit clip within the chat of you demolishing his score.

Monomi Park might want to come take a look at that slime game. Honestly didn't think much of it until there was a closeup shot of one of the crystals. Those are 100% just plorts. It's not a typical diamond shape, plorts specifically have the offset/jagged middle section. The slimes are fine because any colorful round blob with a face is gonna have some resemblance to Slime Rancher, but to also just directly rip plorts and hope that the recolor is enough for people to not notice is some Pal World type shit fr.

Honestly, even though I don't really get the point of having games on streaming platforms like Netflix or KZbin, you do have to admit that some of them are pretty good despite 90% of them looking like a bad mobile game. Like, the cat spell casting one looks like an *actual* flash game you would see in Cool Math Games or Armor Games or something, which I feel like KZbin should shoot for instead of "Here's a situation with something missing, scribble a line where the object is missing, and you win!
