Ayy He was speaking the truth to "some" extent. He however skimped out on a lot of information that he could have found out easily with just a few clicks. He clearly shows a double standard in the video, particularly involving Boogie and Repzion. There's more to it though, this part is just "one" of the problems. It's not about fair or not of him attacking youtubers, that's not the issue at all. The issue is that he skipped out on his research on areas where he should researched before making the video. If he had, the video would lose a decent portion of it because it wouldn't have been added in the video in the first place. You'll quickly notice if you scroll through the comments that a lot of GradeA fans are kinda annoyed that he skipped on his research when in the making of the video. So it's not like people are just having personal bias against GradeA or nothing, its his own fans that are even bothered by it.

I think the only _reasonable_ criticism is that if advertisers really didn't want their ads on controversial videos then they wouldn't be advertising on tv news shows. There's a weird double standard (that may be coming from advertisers or may be coming from KZbin/old media) about KZbin being unfriendly towards advertisers when those exact same things can be talked about on tv and it's just fine.

Glad I watched this as I've been fuming in recent weeks. Now I can see what your saying makes sense, "sort of", but I still have a gripe. Of my 84 or so uploads, 2 of them have had the sanction, yes it's just 2 but am still left scratching my head, why, well how the hell can a 3 Stooges video with no swearing, nudity or violence whatsoever with simple tags only related to the content possibly be advertiser unfriendly, yes even just 2 of my uploads. It's NOT about the advertisers, it's KZbin doing sneak censorship. They use the advertisers as an excuse. KZbin could very easily put ratings on videos. G, PG, R, or 18+. The content creators can self label and KZbin is scanning videos all the time, so they can put labels on them. They have the advertiser simply choose the rating they want to advertise on. G only videos, fine, problem solved. What Google/KZbin is really doing is censorship and their personal preferences, and is making excuses to hide what they do. A simple solution is there for anybody with common sense, if putting the right advertisers on the right videos was really the problem. Plenty of advertisers would not mind putting ads on R or 18+ content. Not everybody is a prude.

That's an oversimplification, KZbin is still the "big dog" when it comes to user-generated video and isn't anything like as powerless as you suggest. Sure advertisers may prefer this, but that doesn't mean they were ready to up and leave if KZbin hadn't started demonetising. I think the real concern is (like copyright claims) its another example of KZbin bending over backwards for corporate interests even if their users and content creators lose as a result.

I'm not fully buying that advertisers are not wanting to put their ads in distasteful or graphic videos. I remember several years ago when Passion of the Christ came out and almost every advertiser said they wouldn't advertise before the movie because it was supposedly antisemitic. The first weekend it was in theaters the only ad was a Passion of the Christ necklace but hundreds of thousands of people were showing up to watch it. By the next weekend there were back to back advertisers filling the slots who before said they wouldn't place ads. The majority of advertisers only want eyes, young eyes who have access to a lot of spending money. Something else is going on.

You know the problem with the "Advertiser friendly" claim by youtube? Is that is seems like a lie. KZbin's algorithm chooses which ads to put on which videos. Go watch a video on investing in the stock market, and watch the 401k ads pop up. Go watch a overwatch video, and watch the BF1 trailer and the overwatch 3 day trial spam you. Go watch a 2K video, and watch the 2k17 ads pop up. So I don't understand how you can say "the advertiser doesn't want his or hers name on a certain type of video", when KZbin has programmed certain ads to go to certain places. (gaming ads on gaming vids, political ads on political vids, etc) I also find this claim to be bullshit, because 95% of the time, the ad itself wouldn't be deemed "advertiser friendly". profanity, violence, political strawmans to bash politicians(that new trump one makes me laugh) etc. So the hypocrisy here is hilarious. In my opinion, the reality of all this is, that advertisers are and feel in no way connected to the videos or creators they show their ads before. Not a single person with a brain, will start disliking a company, because their ad played in a video they disagree with. It makes no sense at all to believe that, because ads are not placed manually, but randomized and are only somewhat organized by a algorithm that is looking at video tags, title and your own surf behavior. Instead, who they are actually connected to is KZbin itself and how they handle their site. There's not a huge connection between them, but if KZbin has a very bad reputation as whole, it might influence advertisers opinion (and therefor investment in the site) and to a much much lesser degree viewer opinion of the advertiser (for example: when YT would slowly degenerate from a family friendly page to a porn site, one might ask why the advertiser is still putting his ads there, but that's still very unlikely). So my conclusion for now is, that KZbin is not blocking ads in videos, so advertisers are not associated with the creator or content of a video, but to influence popular creators into uploading videos, that will better KZbin's reputation as a whole, in order to maximize advertiser happiness and profit. It is a form of soft-censorship and KZbin is doing nothing inherently wrong with it imo, but I have my doubts that this will lead to bigger profits for YT. What I mean is that they will probably manage to get better advertiser deals out of this, but less controversial videos will decrease creator and viewer happiness and are pretty sure to lead to less views overall, which could turn out to be very costly for everyone, depending on how much advertisement blocking is going on. I guess a lot of you are thinking about this the same way, but time and time again, I see people having different (and imo worse) opinions, on why this is happening now.

I think that most of the outrage has to do with KZbin unmonetizing videos without notifying people for at least a year. And yes, it's a small amount of revenue being lost, but everyone's looking at the bigger picture; due to KZbin's policies being super vague, a video could be taken down and nonredeemable for just about any reason. Besides that, KZbin _is_ largely at fault here. If they had disclosed that videos were being taken down for monetization in the first place, there wouldn't be so much panic.

If it was the advertisers having an issue with it then why did you just play yourself at 3:45 by saying you can appeal it? If it were the advertisers complaining and not a bot then why would it be appealed? Why would Burger king role on before a TV news channel that talks about rape, killing, suicide but not a youtube channel? Why not have a system where advertisers themselves can list topics they don't want to be shown in instead of youtube choosing for themselves. You're claiming to be so pro advertiser but its really youtube telling them what will and will not be shown on based on what they THINK they want.

Why do you think KZbin made that bot in the first place? ...To get better deals with advertisers. Obviously the algorithm isn't perfect, but I don't think they could manually check every single video, so they ban a bunch of tags and topics and if you think your video doesn't deserve to be demonetized then you can appeal. That's what they've been doing with music/movie clips, they ban, if you think it's fair use, you appeal.

Yeah, it's an algorithm that catches these videos, because that's the only way to do it, there's millions of minutes of video uploaded to KZbin every day. As for the Burger King analogy... well it doesn't really work. For one, TV companies and Advertisers work together all the time to ensure that what's around the shows and what's around the ads is mutually beneficial. Secondly, while a pre-roll ad is running, the title is still below. Then after the ad has played, details about the ad and company are still sat to the right of the video. Companies spend millions figuring out what makes consumers tick. They will know how far removed from a new story about rape or terrorism an ad must be for it to be effective. As for your last point, this also protects the viewer. For example, imagine a video about gay conversion therapy. Burger King and Nike have decided it's not for them, so have listed it in their 'no-go policy'. With no competition for ad space, gay conversion providers are free to place their ads before the video for probably a cent a click. Or what about a video dealing with gambling addiction? Cheap ad space, targeted at a vulnerable market. Same for videos on alcoholism.

Creating a system where each individual company that wants to put an ad on youtube has a say on which videos get ads would be a pain in the ass to manage. Its easier for everyone if youtube just says no to ISIS/Rape/Suicide videos, and if they get it wrong, that is why there is the appeal button.

It was the advertisers choosing this. Advertisers don't want their ads on videos that contain content they consider inappropriate. (ie. videos with tags like rape, suicide, etc.) KZbin acquiesces to their concern by not displaying their ads on said content. If the advertisers were fine with it, none of this would have happened so its the advertisers that are holding the strings here, KZbin is just the puppet EDIT: At least according to this video

It's KZbin's bot that "determines" if you were advertiser friendly or not. Yes, some advertisers have a general sentiment that they don't want to be involved in controversial videos, but they personally aren't deciding if each individual video (with exceptions, obviously) is controversial. KZbin's bot does, then places your video in a category where it is deemed controversial (even if it isn't) and advertisers then pick between "controversial" or "not-controversial" as defined by the bot. So to an extent yes, it is on KZbin because their bot is fucked up.
