The "parasocial" part comes in with people obsessively following and worshipping popular people with regards to their private life drama. Like, I dunno, getting obsessed with a content creator just because they're pregnant, and getting upset over them turning out to have faked a miscarriage. Her video blowing up compared to the usual size of her channel proves that she gained new audience members, who literally only clickes because "muh baby". The question is, why do you care? The answer is, because of parasocial relationships. Because you project your expectations onto someone else across the internet. Again. 15 years ago if I popped in a Jim Carrie DVD I rented, and then I said I hate Jim Carrie, he's not even funny, people would ask the obvious question: why did you rent it then? Today we treat an indie comedian differently, because, again, of parasocial relationships and the lack of social divide a platform like KZbin represents compared to, say, a theater stage or movie studio.

Thinking that having basic empathy is "a weird parasocial thing" is one of the most sociopathic things I've heard. and I know that the word is overused but I feel it fits, someone going so far as to think that "another human having the basic minimum regard for another human being is weird and too much" is incomprehensible, unless there is mental disconnect involved. I think this might also be some attempt at an "edgy joke", and the parasocial relationship part of the conversation is ironic and she knows full well she is encouraging parasocial relationships for money, but it is so tone deaf and landed so wrong that only an incredibly stupid person would have done this.

Feeling empathy or compassion for someone else doesn't mean you think you know the other person or have a relationship with them, just that you have empathy for another's suffering or perceived suffering. So saying that having empathy or feeling happy for someone is parasocial is not what it means, and that is the mistake the creator that did the "prank" made.

My wife was pregnant, at her 12 week ultrasound we discovered we lost the baby. I saw it break that woman, and she has fought back and become a stronger person from it. She told me not a day goes by that she doesnt think about it. Wow. I HATE people like this !! I lost my son, and first child, Shiloh Daniel when I was 5 months pregnant ! Grieving a baby you never got to meet is very weird but so hard.. But no one prepares you for the VERY HIGH anxiety you have when you get pregnant again. Plus the PTSD you get from all the blood you lose during childbirth, because it reminds you of the time you lost your baby plus almost your own life. So joking about a miscarriage, is horrible. Not only does she NOT know how it feels but the aftermath. The dark thoughts you have of just wanting to be with that baby you lost, feeling those phantom kicks and flutters just wishing your baby was still there, and getting pregnant again after the loss, is just something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. This woman is DISGUSTING. Not worth the air she breathes..

This is a very painful and traumatic experience for most -if not all- women that have the misfortune to go through it and no sane person would think what she is doing is okay in any way whatsoever. I didn't know who she was when I first saw that she was "pregnant" on KZbin, but at the time I was happy for her. And then I saw a little while later that she had "lost the baby", and as someone who has a baby, I felt sorrow for her. I clicked on the video to send my condolences in the comments and then.... And then she announced that it was all fake. I immediately clicked off the video and felt disgusted. My sister has had multiple miscarriages. One just in November ish of last year while being cheated on. My sister was so excited, so happy, and literally gave up taking her antidepressants that manage her PTSD to have this baby. She was assured this time would be different. The same day she got confirmation from the doctor she was pregnant they also told her that her levels were extremely low and she was at risk for losing the baby. She did. She asked what causes this and they told her she has the same condition our grandma has. It causes early menopause and fertility issues. She had asked her doctor to test her for it when she first started seeing him. He told her that it was highly unlikely and she should be fine. Because of this she lost her baby because she could not get the treatment in time. I watched as my sister sold her baby’s crib, diapers, clothes, and shut her nursery door for the last time all while going through a divorce just weeks after losing this baby. My sister went through more than just a miscarriage. She was medically gaslit and then offered no support when she lost another child. She doesn’t get to hold her baby and I don’t get to hold my niece or nephew. We all lost that chance. For this girl to lie and joke about something that has torn apart and hurt so many families is beyond comprehension to me. She needs real mental health help and I hope she gets it.
