Tipping based on percentage is the dumbest thing ever. Why does it matter how expensive the food was? I tip based on the service I received...if someone is constantly checking on me and taking care of refills etc...then they are going to get a bigger tip. If I drive to a restaurant, pick up my food, you don't deserve a tip for handing me my food. That's where tipping culture gets really stupid.
@RomaroBrandon Жыл бұрын
What about delivery?
@Ramberta Жыл бұрын
Tipping is based on the acronym To Insure Proper Service. If you don't like freebies, smiles, and being on a first-name basis at restaurants, and also if you want a lack of compassion if they ever get your order incorrect, then by all means don't tip! Just know you're attracting unnecessary negativity into your life for a few measly dollars "saved".
@Drewski720 Жыл бұрын
@@Ramberta Yes, I tip based on service. A server/waiter deserves a tip based on the service they provide, what is your point? Do you believe that someone deserves a tip for handing me my food through a drive-thru? A tip is a monetary "thank you" for your service, not a mandatory insurance for adequate service.
@Drewski720 Жыл бұрын
@@RomaroBrandon Delivery definitely deserves a tip. They are driving to the location, picking up food, and delivering the food to me. Percentage tipping still should not apply. I think us americans have grown to feel entitled to literally everything really and I'm embarrassed sometimes for it. The issue here that people are complaining about is that the employees aren't paid adequately by their employer. The employer expects customers will pay the employees salary so they don't have to. So, Somehow, that makes it the customers problem. Idk how true it is for all restaurants, but there is minimum wage. Some say It's not enough for all the standard nessesities though. Housing and utilities is an arm and leg, healthcare, etc, you name it. We got that inflation. But I do think Those people just need to find a more suitable job. Those type of jobs are perfect for high schoolers and college people who are already staying with someone splitting utilities. in all, I don't agree with customers being socially forced to tip, but since that's what culture says, I tip for some services. I just want peace.

I understand both sides so please don’t come at me As a waiter it’s hard because a lot work 9-5 and make minimum wage and a lot of these workers are doing an amazing job while being underpaid so I can understand why they feel some type of way if they don’t get a tip because that tip is half their paycheck. HOWEVER tipping isn’t mandatory it’s not a law therefore it isn’t required, for one thing I don’t agree with or like the saying “if you can’t afford to tip you can’t afford to eat out” that’s not your business or concern regarding someone eating out and how much money they have to spend. If they are willing to tip be grateful and if they didn’t I’m not saying you didn’t do a good job but keep in mind they probably just paid for a $50 meal and probably need the extra 10 for gas or something. All I’m saying is think in these scenarios as if you were the other person.

If every restaurant just automatically adds gratuity 18 percent to 20 percent tip then they will HAVE to tip since its automatic like tax then they have no choice but to tip. And then on top of that on there own personal discretion they can tip extra if they're generous. I think that would be the best solution Im sorry but if you cant afford to dine out and tip then maybe don't dine out these are tough times. Before i was more careful especially with bad service i would only tip 10 to 15 for terrible but now for excellence i have no choice but to tip 25 % with this economy and hard times we need to be more considerate of the servers salary so i sacrifice but not dining out as much because its not fair for the servers. If they have horrible service then we must consider the diners perspective if they wait super long get terrible service server is dismissive doesn't get the food right food isnt good THEN they can dispute with the restaurant and lower the gratuity tip charges . I think this way at least the server will get an automatic tip unless they give terrible service this is the only way i see this tipping problem being more reasonable and sensible.
