Ys II Complete Speedrun (Single Segment with saves) -

EDIT 2: This video was initially timed via SDA's standards, but was later timed by traditional RTA standards (starting after selecting "New Game", ending at final boss hit). Going by SDA timing (first movement input to final boss hit), the time comes out to 1:09:53.
Since progress on my segmented run of Ys II Complete is stalled yet again (I'm restarting it, and am stuck on the first segment, even though it ends a few minutes sooner due to a small time-saving glitch I want to use), I'm uploading this "single segment" run I did a few months back, using saves as a precaution for some points. This is far from a perfect run, but it's decent for what it is, especially considering I don't have much practice with the later parts of the game. I expect that a segmented run could cut maybe up to 5 minutes off of this time, but that's just a guess - hopefully it turns out to be even more, but I doubt I can get this version below an hour (Eternal, maybe, with the Druegar and Zava bugs). Also, being a SS run, I got some items/armor that the segmented run will likely skip, so that's a little more potential time saved.
Maybe someday me or someone else will finish a properly optimized run of this game. Until then, enjoy!

To those confused by the game version listed by KZbin in this video: this is the Japanese PC Complete version from 2001. KZbin doesn't have this version in particular listed (to be fair, there are a lot of different versions of Ys I & II), but that doesn't stop their system from auto-assigning a game title - often times a wrong title, probably on account of KZbin having an incomplete database. I even tried to leave the game's title field blank, but KZbin assigned something anyway, so I'm just gonna leave it tagged as the 1988 release until a better solution comes along.

Is this Easy? Everything seems to move slower than normal. And thank you for the routing, used it as a "map" for a Nightmare run. (Darm's not as bad as Dark Fact for a final boss, but still annoyingly attritious).

Yes, this was played on Easy difficulty. Same with my more recent run of the game.

Gotta go fast, I suppose. Your route helped me out a lot, especially the Shrine parts; Thank you for that. I figured it out after the first boss, since I was playing on Nightmare and he was just shooting constantly....while yours shot once. haha Great work with the run(s)! Very efficient routing, bar some killing mistakes.

You think the Shrine is bad in this version, take a look at some dungeon maps for a Korean version called Ys II Special. =p Huge, maze-like areas all throughout. Glad the runs could help, though!

A different version than what this video shows, but yes, Ys I & II was on the DS (as well as a lot of other systems).

+Musashi Hk One of the Japanese PC releases, specifically the "Complete" version released in 2001 (has an unofficial English translation patch floating around). Additionally, there's a very similar version released in 1998 (just with a couple minor gameplay bugs), and also a port of the PSP version (not the one on Steam). Overall I've heard that the Japanese PC version of Chronicles is probably the fastest, on account of Japanese text (fewer characters), and being able to hold cancel to speed it up further.
