@@legendredux1291 It's not as easy as whether they want to improve. Making realistic looking graphics cost a tons. There's a reason why SQEX decided to release FFVII: Remake in episodic format (hint: because they can re-use all the assets and engine). Falcom is just a middle size company. They cannot risk investing billion of dollars on developing cutting-edge game engine. Look at what is happening to CD Projek and its Cyberpunk. Even a company with track records of publishing multiple AAA games are still struggling to polish its most anticipated title even when it had been developed for more than half a decade. If that happened with Falcom, the company should have gone bankrupt. And I think the graphics from Ys III and IX don't look that bad (especially VIII). For me, I still prefer gameplay over graphics any day. If the graphics is not downright ugly to the point that I feel like vomiting, I'm fine the way they are.

Great review! One note about the quest at the tavern: this might be a reference to another Falcom game, Nayuta no Kiseki. The cook in the tavern is terrible but keeps asking for hard to find ingredients. I think my favorite quest was the one where you had to find gold for some kids. At one point a soldier gets mad at you for finding one on castle grounds. An army general tells him off and apologizes to you. Later in the story you find out that general detests people who push others around because they can. At first it seems like a throwaway moment, but once you learn about him it makes sense. Also I think having a weapon type pyramid (each type is weak to 1 other) helps to learn the enemies and forces you to use all the characters. I find it odd that in the PS4 release they removed weakness prompts for enemies. If you hit an enemy with a weapon they are weak to the damage number is yellow. If they resist that type the number is purple. It becomes easy to see just from that. FINALLY: The Sacred Beasts' Lair music slaps on Vita.

One of my favorite aspects of Memories of Celceta was finding the memories. It helped to give a sense of mystery right from the start, as well as made the adventure more personal for Adol. I think it's a great game, and definitely worth trying.

@Jordan3DS4 жыл бұрын
@@rambact5769 I agree, it all depends on the art style. I really dislike it when people say "3D > 2D, better textures = better graphics" when that's not true in the slightest. A lot of modern games go for a very bland, lifeless style that has no charm or value to it, meant to be functional and nothing else. I also feel that the switch to HD brought some really ugly lightning engines that make some games look 10x worse than they could look for some reason. I'll always judge a games visuals by how appealing they are, graphical fidelity has no meaning.

What do you think of Ys Origins so far? Personally, I found it to be the low point of the series. Ugly portraits/character designs, poorly designed gameplay, and a lackluster translation that was literally bought from fan translators by the localization team. If you've never played them, I highly recommend downloading a PC Engine emulator and giving Ys I - IV on there a try, they're really damn fun! I love both modern Ys and classic Ys, but I think I'd have to give the edge to classic Ys.

It's such a huge step up from the previous games, not trying to say anything bad about the older games in the series. It brought back some recent memories for me. I have been hardcore into the Trails Series and having completed the Liberl Arc and half of the Crossbell Arc started Trails of Cold Steel 1, and because I had got accustomed to the graphics of those older games, was left in something of a stupor. I'm quite torn in regards to the graphical differences between the Cold Steel games and everything that come before it.

Currently fighting extreme tooth pain thanks for helping take my mind off it for a moment. Looking to get into the series, what game should I start with. Was thinking ys8

8 is such a high point in the series that I honestly would recommend avoiding it to start. Also there's a loose connecting narrative in all of the games. Anyways start with oath in felghana (avoid any version of ys 3 like the plague) or origin. Origin has some plot connections to ys 1 and 2 as its set like 100 years in the past. Origin is also the only ys game on Xbox one. Ys 1 and 2 (play 1 before 2 as they're both connected and ys 2 continues where 1 left off) are a bit strange to play, but ultimately fun.

I just bought this game waiting for free time to play it. First Ys game I have beat( bought 7 long ago on ps2 but never played much of it was great era for JRPGs and I let other games take priority over it. But I played and beat 8 over the first couple weeks of covid shutdown and loved it. It has been years if not closd to a decade to ps2 that a game gave me a emotional connection to the cast and it literally made me tear up wishing it didnt end at the end of the game. I plan on playing the series from hear on out when I can and will try the trials of cold steel series( have heard great things from it. Even if the older games dont give me the connection that 8 did the creators know what they are doing with there games and I'm am do to the reputation they have received.

If you are able to play "Nayuta no Kiseki" please do. There is a fan translation out there with an official translation possibly in the works. But yeah, the game came out on PSP so they devs made their own trophy system for the game. It's actually useful too because in New Game+ you can use your score to unlock new things. Oh and Tokyo Xanadu is a real fun game too.

100% agreed. I also enjoyed the game but something felt a little off.

I would love to obtain more Ys platinums. Have 8 on PS4 and MoC on Vita so far. I truly wanted to get another platinum on PS4, but it seems to have the same trophy list, so that won't be possible. What a shame indeed.
