You know when you hear these synths you've reached that final dungeon.
@brightsuperstition

One thing I really love about Ys 8 is how many of these grand musical themes are basically variations of Dana's own musical theme, which really reinforces just how much this game is about her story. The synth you mention at 1:18 is one such variation. You hear another variation when you reach the area right before the Theos de Endogram boss fight, alongside yet another variation during that boss fight itself.

I wasn't expecting much from this game when it came out but I bought it anyway. Boy was I surprised with how much fun I had with it and how invested I got with the characters and the story. Hearing this song, almost 50 hours later and close to the end, was a great climax to a great experience. I love Ys VIII and its soundtrack so much. Thank you Falcom!

It's probably the most underrated and hidden gem of the gen, i loved every second of it. It's on my top 10 best jrpg with Chrono Trigger and FF6
@GalanOfTruth

Ys is 100% an underrated series considering it's among the best action jrpg series in existence. To be honest it feels like besides 7 which is amazing, Celceta didn't do the series any favors especially coming out on the Vita and to me wasn't the best one to get into the series with (I had two false starts until I finally got into it for real). I think 8 did for the series something similar to what Persona 5 did for that series in terms of the most exposure.

@@GalanOfTruth The Ys series had very highly rated games since Ys 1 & 2 for the Turbograpx 16. It's just not very well known, unfortunately. I don't get why Celceta gets so much flak nowadays. Especially when compared to Ys 7. I mean, sure, Celceta's story had issues, and the soundtrack - while still good - is a downgrade from Ys 7, but the gameplay had major improvements in both exploration and combat. Plus, it was pretty highly rated when it came out on the Vita. Now opinions seem VERY mixed. Probably more than any other title in the series. I wonder if maybe a lot of people only got to play Celceta after Ys 8. Because, yeah, that could make Celceta look a bit underwhelming in comparison. ^^;

@@joaomarcoscosta4647 idk I'm not saying I think it was bad I just think it's not the best ys game to choose as your first. In hindsight I loved it, but for whatever reason I couldn't get into it at first and it was my first ys game and I knew nothing about the series. I think the fact that it was on a system like the Vita and was getting no attention at the time also impacted my motivation to play it. But I can say that finally beating it made me incredibly hyped for 8 and I'm in love with the ys series.

@@GalanOfTruth Nice to hear it. Eh... Read it? Anyway, glad you are enjoying the series. But yeah, I wouldn't really recommend Celceta as the first entry in the series either, I suppose. I think I'd recommend starting with either Ys 8 or Oath in Felghana since they are both pretty self-contained stories and a good showcase of the modern and the "Napishtim engine" at their best. And after I had them hooked I could force them to play every entry in release order, starting with the bump-combat games. ^_^ (I'm half kidding)

That's kinda the thing that makes japanese games more appealing to me than western games. Japanese games have always the best OST, which translate to the emotion of "I wanna keep playing this game" or "I wanna beat the boss and save the world"

@@mastermp2 Western game OSTs can be good too. They just got cursed with the recent trend of following the minimalism sound direction that infected modern Hollywood during the past decade. Back when western film, tv, and gaming was more into traditional, melodic scoring, such OSTs were pretty solid.

I'm amazed by how many things happen in this game. Truly it is so...awe inspiring. And this place is one impossibly awesome example of it. Together with Ao no Kiseki's Great Azure Tree (I wonder if the making of this place in its semblance was deliverate), Nayuta no Kiseki's Stellarium, and Tokyo Xanadu's Pandora, the single most beautiful places Falcom has ever created. I applaude you Falcom, and wish to keep playing your games.

Might be actually. Consider this: the four guardians in this game and the four bosses in the tree in Ao (Wald, Shirley, Sigmund, Arios). Then there's also the path to the centre of the tree, and the gigantic "final" boss within it. Based Falcom is based.

I take Lofos Hill -the dungeon, not this song - to be a mashup of the Well of Souls - Ys Seven's final dungeon - and the Akashic Records - Memories of Celceta's final dungeon. The Well of Souls comparison - exploring the ruins of civilisations which failed to do what Adol is now doing - is likely intentional. The entire faux-climax mirrors that of Ys Seven.

When an hidden gem series provides more oomph than recent games with the same mechanics as every other game made by a company yet to still be recognized by the masses which also had been doing quality work for many, many goddamn years. Freaking Heretics. Trails series for example had wonderful storytelling with its political issues, suspense, betrayal and personal issues combined with decent gameplay. Compare that to GTA, it's ridiculous comparing the two due to their genres but I'd rather play Assassin's creed than freaking GTA.
