Fantastic grain. Can't confirm or deny if butternut, which grows a bit further north than black walnut. Black walnut is very dense, which may have been taking a toll on the band saw. Because of its density, it is sought after for rifle stocks. For reasons I can't explain, it is slightly toxic to horses, leading to a hoof disease if they are exposed to the sawdust, or wood shavings.

I wonder why the operator had to run the log back pass the blade 20 miles. Most inefficient sawing l have ever seen.

Do they scan logs first for nails using metal detectors?

While white oak can be used for furniture, as it is strong and durable, it's typically used for flooring. But, black (or Claro) walnut is truly beautiful. Those slabs have only one use, to be artistically built into fine table tops or desk tops for display. There's some really great crotch in that log.

Quite a bit of smoke towards the end. Did you have to sharpen after doing this log?

Mr. Sasada,,, Beautiful milling of the logs into slabs... It is not my intention to gain a price discount,,, Therefore,,, I'm not trying to be fiends to gain advantage of pricing,,, Hell I'll even pay you 5%-15% more for a slab if I personally pick out the slabs I want,,, should I decided to build my next HOME with slabs... You do,,, do,,, GREAT work...

The video color is off but that's not black walnut I don't think. A lot of it I cut is very green in coloration until it oxidizes and turns dark brown but those colors do not look right at all.

Also, not much will grow under a walnut tree, like tomatoes.
