Your sawing big logs from around the world is a most interesting enterprise. This spalted big old maple is another awesome log. Wishing you prosperity.

Why am I so hopelessly addicted to watching these logs being slabbed out?

Quite a few very beautiful dinning room table tops in that tree, and will make good conversation pieces while sitting at them.

American maple? What kind? Sugar? Beautiful coloring! Looks like there was a bit of burl in the beginning. That last slab though... 👁👁

Here in iowa these soft maples grow like weeds along most rivers....some would call them silver maple.....a few of the sawmills nearby cut nothing but for nine out of the twelve months of the year the three summer months it will stain quickly. I am a pallet sawmill so if this log had ended up in our yard it would have been made into pallets .....so if those slabs end up as tables in rich people's houses your maples pay a lot better than Mine! I think I need a new business plan!

I'm amazed they allowed a worker to get so close to the saw while it is running, especially on the side with the teeth !!!

In the part of the world where this is being done, there are no laws really, just do it and get it done or bring in the next guy, you will be OK with one arm.

I would expect to see a plain white tissue when this tree is sliced but it has many rotten and defected parts. It seems it grew in a very bad environment and soil.

If you want big logs to cut, you should talk to the tree cutting people who work in southeast Louisiana. I see water oaks and live oaks with trunks at least 2and half feet in diameter cut down all the time and sent to the landfill. Such a waste.

2:36 Waiting to see what comes out with the next slab and then there it is at 2:39, a bearded man in a dark jacket, like a portrait of an officer.

what does he keep writing on those off cuts when he steps in ??
@roamingchemist25145 жыл бұрын
He is probably numbering them so that someone who wanted to buy consecutive flitches could do so even if they were not stacked in order. Possibly also some identification of the tree / lot.
