Whoa. I spent the rest of the day with this scent on my skin. It opened VERY loudly with spicy powdery florals and dried down into a deep, rich, warm and spicy rose. I kept imagining a bougie rich woman in a powersuit walking through a cloud of smoke holding a bouquet of black flowers. After awhile, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Not sure why. But I still LOVE it! 😍😍😍

Ahhhh, Opium, one of my 80’s beloved fragrances. Over the top, loud, too much of everything, in a good way! One sniff can transport this 59 year old right back to 1984! The magic of scent. Great review, TFS!

I have a 1981 bottle and a new opium edt and they're definitely the same fragrance as i smell them on each wrist. The vintage is more complex and better blended, it's more spicy, more clove and cinnamon orange, while the new is flatter and more of a masculine leather - but still very much opium

This was my main fragrance in the 90s and it was magic. Many people told me how wonderful it smelled on me. I used to layer it with the shower gel and body crème. I have a theory that Opium is a particularly great match for redheads....But, the fragrance has changed over the years and the current version no longer works for me. I still have some of the vintage EDT and will use that up but probably not purchase the current version of Opium.

Believe it or not my mums friend bought the me the YSL Opium as a gift when I was like…10? 😂 Imagaine giving that heavy kinda scent to a little girl😂 but I was so happy- I STILL LOVE IT. I don’t have it anymore but I really loved it. It was like my happy place to sniff it😍

My girlfriend wore this fragrance all the time when we were young - like 17, or 18 years old back in 1978-'80, it really isn't a fragrance you would expect on a teenager. I tried it on and it was awful on me, and gave me a terrible headache and I tried to wear it several times - just couldn't do it. But, I loved smelling it on her and it projected like crazy and didn't bother my sinuses. I just couldn't handle it on me - I am not surprised you found it overwhelming after a while, I think it's because it is very strong for a long time and it is a 'heady' fragrance. I wonder if would be able to wear it now? I was prone to migraines when I was young (due to sinus problems which I handle now with meds). I need to get a sample and see how it goes. I blind bought Opium, and got it in the mail today. I hate it. It smells so old, like an old perfume from the 1970s that's sat around and turned bad. It's just awful on me.

YSL "M7" is really delish, and one (more) of my faves that's discontinued. However, I researched and finally found an ok replacement from Guerlain. I've had YSL "Opium" since the 80's, my (now grown up) kids always remember it as "mum's Christmas perfume"! Never actually tried it during summer, though - "Paris" will be a more natural choice - but I'll break the old habit of 'seasonal scent' and give it a go!
